I'm unsure why Siri AI isn't brought over to HomePod using iPhone as a relay for the on-device and cloud processing.
This goes for Siri AI in general if the device is too old for on-device. If their PCC is so secure and private, they could just outsource it to the cloud for those devices.

I’m so confused are there developer betas for HomePod or not?
Only beta is see so far is Appleseed for mini & 2nd gen only. I think we need more insight into the OG before we know 100% for sure because nothing is showing. And a lot of references to 1st gen have been removed in a lot of places, even in the fine print on the main Apple website.

I’ve been using crossfade on my HomePods for a while. A couple of times a day, when transitioning to the next track, playback will stop. Restarting the track successfully solves the problem. Nevertheless, the HomePod is still struggling with crossfade. It will be interesting to see how a more computationally intensive process like AutoMix.

How can we know for sure?. We will have to wait until a public beta is available?

At this point, it really should just be an audio output device. Considering only the most powerful iPhones are getting all the new Siri capabilities, the 2018 HomePod is woefully underpowered for modern AI workloads.

OG HomePod Support

In case anyone was wondering, the new HomePod Software 27 beta does support the original HomePod. There was some confusion about this earlier in the week, but MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris was able to independently confirm support for Apple's first smart speaker, which launched in 2018 and was discontinued in 2021.

Oh man, I'm so happy to hear this. I got the HomePod early when it was only available in the US (thanks Joe!) and was a big believer in the platform that I ended up filling my home with HomePods. I've waited years for a proper Siri, watching as it got worse only to hear that it wouldn't be supported when new Siri finally arrived. I'm glad that was wrong.

I don't expect my 2018 HomePods to support Apple Intelligence but a new server side Siri is bound to arrive with the new HomePod mini which will not be much more powerful than the OG HomePod and will likely rely on Siri in the cloud as well.

I’m curious what the new glassy Siri animation shown in the new OS 27 design will look like on the top of the HomePod.

It won't. I'm running beta 1 on my minis and see no changes. It's like just a version update so far, I can't see any changes. So this could come in the future but it's NOT in beta 1 so far...
I also DO NOT see that Apple Intelligence menu in my Home App like some are reporting... So maybe it takes time to see changes or things are being rolled out from server-side like a waitlist...

Dropping OG HomePod support is bad ... also because 2nd Gen HomePods sound worse!

I fear I need to buy new HomePods now to get the latest software ... OG HomePods for the trash then? Or what to do with them?
Simple just use them. I have 2 original HP and they still work great.

I can't figure out how to get os 27 beta on my HomePod (2nd gen). I have it on all other devices, but cannot see it on my HomePod. I only have 26 beta option and no info for 27 to select like other devices.

How does the OG supports it and not the tv?
I think Apple want to give the OG HomePod 27 because it’s a refining update.

So that when 28 is announced they can possibly drop support for it.

It’s impressive that it’s still supported but I bet Apple didn’t want to leave it on 26 because of how unoptimised it is.

I hope I’m wrong but it will have to be dropped off of os support eventually and I think the refined 27 version might be the ideal one to retire it on.

And yet, they dropped support on the Apple TV 4K first gen. It will remain on tvOS 26 forever.

My HP2 plays music randomly. Even after me changing source of playlist to phone and lowering volume.

Reset. Upgraded firmware. Removed and replaced in home app. No change.

Possibly the dreaded ghost touch. Sometimes Siri will say ok and say here’s a playlist even though listening for Siri is turned off.
I have exactly this issue on two first gen HomePod minis. Random music playing at any time of day. It will stop doing this for a week or so and then start again. I keep hoping a new iOS will fix the problem but alas not so far.

According to everything I can find in a search, my iPhone being enrolled in the Developer program and having iOS27 should mean there's a toggle for this in my Home settings. But I only see Public Beta 26 listed. Any suggestions?

I have two iPod minis which are apparently included for 27. I've never had developer betas on my HomePods before, but I'm game for this one.

Luckily I have mine stereo paired to a tv so I am less worried about siri and just glad they will continue plugging along as tv audio.
Yes I’m also using it mainly for TV audio but I’m afraid there will be issues in the future if there are no software updates - especially with the new Apple TV 4K 4th Gen and tvOS 27/28/29

I can’t find any links to a solution to this, I even asked Siri AI!
