I have this issue from time to time, so I'd welcome ability to turn the icon off. I find the only time I use dictation for texts is in the car, via CarPlay. Generally, I don't like everyone around me hearing everything I want to send to someone.
My bigger frustration is that I can never type as fast as I want to on the iOS keyboard, or else it makes loads of mistakes. If I slow down, it stops with all the typing "p" when I pressed "o" and auto-correcting words incorrectly.

Good first step, now allow the ability to remove anything on share sheets including the Air Drop option.
I hit this in iMessages pretty often. But, I hit it all the time in Google Maps and it drives me crazy every time.

The period button and the waste of space at the bottom are extremely poor decisions. Sooo Apple… I tried an Android the other day and the amount of keyboard customization, also super easy, made me feel that my iPhone is a 90s car: electric windows, a/c, stereo…. But nothing “new”. Just “basic nice”,

Now if they could get rid of the redundant emoji button next to the spacebar when you have multiple keyboards that would be great.
Now if only there could be a way to turn off or disable that text effects button too. So often when tapping out messages quickly, I will accidentally hit it and have to start over. I never want to send a text with those damn effects!
I've hit it a few times by mistake and never want to record an audio text message. Very glad to be rid of it.

I saw this huge line on my walk so I asked and found out that it was to see Justin Beiber’s wife (here in Newport) so I mentioned having just read about him using his stature to fix this ⬆️ messages bug and they thought it was pretty funny 😅

This already "fixed" - Settings -> General -> Keyboards -> "." shortcut -> Off
This is great - I hit this a lot - generally after I have sent a message as I am about to put my phone in pocket so when I take it out it has a two hour dictated message...
