iOS 27 RC ― Bug Fixes, Changes, and Improvements

Ran into a new one. I browse Reddit and see if I can replicate some. This one did.

In Messages I sent a text to a new number (not in contacts and never sent to before).
Message sent no issue. The number I used was the alternate jury duty status number 😳

Went back in after about 30 minutes and send a follow up and the message was not there.
So I sent it as a new message and POOF!! the original message was there with the new one attached.

Odd.

What’s your battery health at and how many cycles have you done? I’m having one of the best battery life I’ve ever witnessed on my iPhone 16e.

My dad’s iPhone 16 Pro running iOS 26.6.2 barely crosses the 3-hour mark for screen-on time. His is at 89% battery health after around 680-690 cycles.

Fluid & Fast does not hold enough weight to convince me to migrate from 26.6.2 to 27 with all the bugs everyone is mentioning in this RC. As with every other September new iOS version, will probably be waiting until at least late Spring to update…Again.

Edit: Exhibit A with 26.6.2 on my iPhone 16.

Funnily enough it’s doing better this evening (uk). Hopefully it will improve over the next couple of days.

Not really surprising, usually battery becomes good around .2-.3 release

It is telling me I need to unlock my iPhone first despite having allow Siri while locked toggled on AND having my Apple Watch on my wrist that says it can be used to unlock (although maybe not authenticate?) the iPhone in the absence of a FaceID success.

I have mixed results. It found my haircut on first try. Did again with camera covered and it worked again. When I asked about "dentist" it tried face ID then did/said nothing. I tired with "doctor" with phone facing away and it showed my next doctor appt. I am wearing Ultra 3.
 
Someone asked about the keyboard and autocorrect was in 27 – I've found it to be markedly better. Not amazing, but way better at figuring out sequences of words than 26 was (i.e. if I type "im att the stre" it autocorrects to "I'm at the store"). I think the bug where it stops autocorrecting or suggestion words is still there, unfortunately.

I think some settings ended up in an odd state after installing the RC. My phone was stuck in Dark Mode this morning until tapping the setting. Settings page for two of my Focus modes didn't show "Silent Mode" was enabled until after I tapped on that setting; both switches "on"; when I went back it showed correctly.

RC App Manager is still far too aggressive. Even if I open the app manager and can see the app I just left and select it, it frequently relaunches.
 
Anyone having issues with Standby Mode?
Specifically the screen turning off after a while, despite the selection in “Settings > Standby > Display > Turn Display Off > Never” being selected.
Has worked well with iOS 26.x on my 17 PM all of this year…. Until I updated from 26.6.2 to 27RC.

This is an old one coming back to haunt me 🤩
