iOS 27: Tone Down Liquid Glass Transparency

I know. 😀 I have received more downvotes in the last few days than I ever have. I think I have folks following me to downvote my posts. 🙂

A GUI must work for everyone...everyone. If the GUI does not work for everyone, then the value of the device is limited to that person, and the user will not buy again. My days of purchasing Apple devices are over until Apple moves past this decision to not give users an off switch for LG.

Apple screwed up by insisting on leaving a smidge of LG active.

I like the liquid glass effect and will keep it at maximum transparency. Great that there is now an option to fine tune the transparency levels so that everyone can set it at their preferred levels.

I know, but to be expected when some here believe Daddy Apple knows best, even on something like this. Never mind that if Apple truly knew best in the first place, there would be no need to add settings toggles or sliders for any of it.

When I see someone stating that to their eyes, LG makes the device harder to read, that is a functional failure on Apple’s part, not merely a stylistic preference. I don’t understand why that should even be controversial.

The problem is, a slider like this means the effects are still applied, using extra GPU and wasting battery.

An option to turn the whole code path off would be less wasteful.

That would require admitting failure which is not something Apple are capable of.

Even if there’s a class action.

They just need to find someone to be a scapegoat to blame it on. Remember iOS 6's map fiasco? 😅
Since the UI guy is already gone, they can simply pile it on him anyway.

One thing I have noticed is that none of the adjustments affect the transparency when you slide down from the top and reveal the search box and search results. Both of those appear completely clear and I find seeing the results more difficult than it used to be because the icons of the apps resulting from my search mix with the app icons on my homepage. I wish the sliders in controls affected these boxes as well.

I’ve had reduce transparency checked since I found out about it. Liquid Glass brings me no benefits.

Strangely enough, as soon as I got the option to tweak this I cranked it all the way up. Frosted glass doesn’t do it for me.

I didn’t like it at first but it grew on me.

I remember when you could install your own themes on MacOS. I used to run BeOS theme. Unfortunately, you need to go to Linux now to get this feature.

ios 27 is no more opaque than ios 26. The opacity slider all the way to the right in 27 matches the opacity of "tinted" in 26. 27 is slightly more blurred than 26, but not more opaque.

The slider is simply Apple gaslighting us.

Same. I've got mine all the way to the left and am kind of disappointed it isn't the ultra-clear Liquid Glass that we saw in iOS 26 Beta 1.

If the Slider Doesn't Go Far Enough

Even at the tinted end, Apple's interface retains a degree of glassiness. If you're not satisfied with the result, two Accessibility options push it further...

That element right there feels a bit like a "too many cooks" situation, to me. Why not just roll those options right into the slider? Why have them as a separate feature at all?

I wouldn't be surprised in the next beta drop, Apple may introduce a setting to just completely turn off Liquid Glass and revert to the UI of iOS 18.x versions.
