Sorry but this app is such garbage

I used to love this app in iOS 5 when I was a kid but its just so slow and buggy now

Let me filter and block spam emails that come from obviously generated emails. The spam situation is bad still and I don’t understand it. Let me straight up block all of them from coming in.

I am forever un-training my macOS mail for GitHub mail and even that is not easy to do. Mind you it is only one particular repository on GitHub which is mostly received in Chinese. MxIris's LyricsX Project. Still I use the English version.
It is annoying to say the least.

Years later, and

it's still not auto clearing unread badge for me when clearing it on Mac. Unless you manually open the app.

Not only that, but the junk mail filters are abysmal! Needs major cleaning!

No support for Gmail push notifications and updates (this is important for calendar too) and no option to turn off in-line attachments will always prevent me from using what is otherwise a clean and well featured email app. I would trade every new feature added to the app over the last 5 years just to have these two features that every other email app has.

That's not really an Apple issue.
Google dropped support for push notifications for new Gmail accounts configured in the iOS Mail app in early 2013, when Google discontinued support for the Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) protocol for all consumer accounts. While existing accounts already set up before that date were grandfathered in for a while, they lost push functionality as soon as the user switched to a new device.
From that moment on, for free Gmail accounts synced via standard iOS channels (IMAP), instant push notifications became exclusive to Google's official apps (such as Gmail or Google Inbox). Meanwhile, Apple's native Mail app was limited to the Fetch system, which downloads new data at set intervals with a minimum wait time of 15 minutes.
It was a Google decision to push for official Gmail app.

I remember this happening: I was using my iPhone 4S with push notifications working in stock Mail app.
then I tried to jailbreak my iPhone. After a couple of weeks I reverted the jailbreak and for Google that was a "new" device and I lost push notifications.
Obviously this would have happened anyway as soon as I switched to a new iPhone.

But it will still save drafts as HTML even though it was supposed to be a plain text mail, it will still add attachments as "inline" even though you wanted to attach those pictures, it will still missing JMAP support, it will still be not able to show me the plain text version of an email, and the Quick Look plugin for emails will still have issues with raw email files which uses CRLF line endings, even though this is the correct line endings for emails.

iOS 27 has made me use mail app again.

Yet still no push mail for Gmail using the native Mail app.

It pushes every 15 mins so you do get it just not instant

I really try to use it. Especially because I've been using other apple apps like calendar and reminders, which do the job really well for me. But the mail app man... It's atrocious. The attachment system is a joke. Just copy what gmail and outlook do and get his done with... They updated the slide to delete on iphone and mac, but the ipad still does not have this option. With vibe coding nowadays a 10 year old could fix all the major problems with the app. I don't understand what the heck is wrong with Apple. They make some incredible products and decisions, and some others that couldn't be worse.

Looks like this is the place to write our frustrations about mail.

1. When will “conversations” be treated as such and deleting a thread deletes the sent messages along the received ones?
2. When will Smart Folder be allowed like in the Mac (we now have them in notes, but no mail, photos or files).

I used to live spark and used it for years, but spark is getting too complex and less eye candy. I reinstalled it recently but it didn’t survive long. On the other hand I find that organizing mail with spark is way easier. Maybe I’ll give it a try again.

Apple Mail doesn’t even do the most basic things like attachments and fonts in a non embarrassing way.

Clients with Windows can’t open my jpegs like I sent them and instead of Arial they see Times.

And I don’t care whose fault this is. Other apps like eM Client work like a charm.

That is definitely not the case. Apple Mail on macOS receives my emails from Gmail instantly in real time. Also Outlook and Thunderbird do so.

The non-real-time fetching is issue is specific to Mail on iOS only.
