the new bars look ugly ugly ugly

I really can understand the antenna issue because it definitely harms the way a iphone should work... but come on the bars look ugly?? Apple recall the software???

No one has you by the balls. The 3GS is still just as good a phone as it was before the 4 was released. Heck, I'm staying with my 3G unless Apple comes out with a real fix.

Sure they have. I've sold my 3GS, i'd be stupid to buy old technology. Well, I'd be stupid(er) to buy their new technology.

Taller bars? Are you effing kidding me? What is happening at Apple?

Edit: I'm adding the taller bars comparison graphic here for people who won't see it buried in the later posts. I compared the 4.1 vs my 4.0 on my iPhone 4 in Photoshop and colored in the difference. The new 1st bar is twice as tall as the old one! Haha:

So... signal calculations. I can't believe for one minute that Apple's decision to show higher signal in areas of lower signal was an accident. The iPhone's long been criticised for it's less than great antenna, so I would bet that it was an intentional software decision historically to show more bars, rather than less.

Now that Apple's phones are (in theory) going to be spending more time in the lower signal area, they are tweaking the UI to try and make the little bars bigger; I can only presume they are doing this to try and have some psychological effect that 1 or 2 bars isn't that awful.

Honestly - I've never known anybody that had difficulty with seeing the 1 or 2 bars as they are today.

It wasn't an accident. I remember with the original iPhone when they changed it to show more bars. Everyone was complaining it was only show three bars in their house. Now with 4.1, its back to showing only three to four bars in my house...

how stupid does apple think we are? they are just changing the indication bars, so the receiption issue is solved? that is as if you put a red dot on a cold-water tap and say "now you can get hot water too!"

this is a video about the antenna issue. please write about it on blogs if you like it:

I am actually show less signal than I was getting before. The bars do look ugly compared to the old ones as well.

I can barely hold a 5/5 bar signal for long. Most of the time it shows 3/5. AT&T Service is amazing where I live and always had full signal before with other phones. Even non-iPhones.

I wonder what the Conference will bring tomorrow. If they have to do a recall that will be a ton of product and loss of money there.

Try telling that to a couple of million people (minus you) that their phone isnt defective. Even with my iP4 in a very strong signal area can kill the service by holding it with my left hand. Most of the time is "okay", but I've had plenty of dropped calls from it.

Maybe you have a weaker resistance through your body and is having far less effect on your phone. Everyone is different. All this "signal bar" is a short ploy TBH. What's the point having the retina display and then Apple having to "enhance" the appearance of the first 3 bars? Let's wait patiently for the massive recall guys and gals. It will happen.

A couple of million people? Do some research. Apple has only sold a couple of million of these phones - except for one person with a unit that died after a short time no one I know has experienced an issue - and I have a LOT of friends across Europe with the new iPhone. Everyone reports better signal quality than their previous phone, no yellow screen, no yellowing of camera images and no 'death grip' issues.

This is not everyone. It is a minority. Apple are dealing with it - if yr unhappy, return your phone for a FOC refund. It really is that simple. In the mean time, they are taking their time to find the cause of the issue experienced by some people and will give a sensible response on Friday.

The ridiculous over-hyped media do not dictate how a company should work. If people don't like the product, don't buy it. If you have a problem, or aren't satisfied with it, return it.

Every phone i've owned without a protruding aerial suffers from this to some extent, my HTC even had a diagram of where not to hold it. This is nothing new.

The media are in a frenzy because they are stupid. People with a faulty product who don't return it are also stupid.

They can recall the phone if that's the way they want to deal with this media 'issue' - however, they're not getting mine back, it's perfect and I think it would need prying from the cold dead hands of many of my friends, who join me in incredulity at this ridiculous hysteria.

if I buy a washing machine and it doesn't wash clothes, I take it back. If you buy a phone and it won't make calls - take it back. End of issue. it's a phone, not the cure for cancer.

This works with old people who have Alzheimer's. Trust me on this.

People with 4.1 testing the death grip issue, please do 3G speed tests with and without the grip to see if there is an improvement. The display of bars does not necessarily mean anything.

Here you go, top 2 lines with so called death grip, 3rd line sitting on desk. 4.1 is worse for me at this location than 4.0.

The irony is strong with this one, considering the whole Toyota issue was discovered to be nothing but driver error....

Yeah, sure. I just imagined them replacing floor mats that stuck/trapped the accelerator pedal on several models along with replacing most of the pedals made for the USA models since they admitted there was a defect that could physically cause it to stick in some cases.

I think you're referring to the lack of finding of an electronic fault for the acceleration issues that some claimed to exist, but no proof has thus far been found. That hardly constitutes "nothing", however.
