I really hope an untethered jailbreak is in the works. I don't like this "tethered" crap, especially when so many Cydia packages ask for respring/reboot after you install them.
But at the same time, it may be worthwhile as an interim solution. Let's say for the purpose of discussion that the dev team has two exploits they're actively working on. One will result in a tethered JB, the other an untethered. I'd rather they give us the tethered JB for 4.1, so they don't blow the "better" exploit in the short window before 4.2, which will probably be with us for a while. Trading short-term annoyance for long-term convenience.
