For someone who has no idea what this means, what is a "good" value considered?

5 bars = 0
4 bars = -30??
3 bars = ...???

etc...

Wow... that code STILL works? I remember using that when on my Nokia 5165 to tweak some settings and get free calling.

-51 dbm I believe is the best you can get( 5 bars on the graphs shown). I believe the iOS 4.0.1 brought the limit out to -121 dbm or so before it goes to no service.

For those wondering:

people on other blogs are saying that death grip really affects db levels. And now we finally have a valid source of information rather than just "bars"

Yeah but I can't get the db to drop by molesting my iPhone 4. I am very disappointed.

STILL works

I enabled field test mode two (or three) iPhones ago on an iPhone 3G or 3Gs running iOS 3 at the time. I’m now running iOS 4.1 on an iPhone 4. Since then, I have always maintained the ability to toggle between bars and numeric signal strength over the many iOS upgrades and across 2-3 iPhones. I’ve just restored each iPhone from the previous one.

I never understood when people said field test went away several iOS updates ago. It never went away for me.

Anyone else able to maintain field test mode over multiple iPhone changes and iOS updates? It was especially handy when evaluating the death grip issue when I first got my iPhone 4 two months ago.

I’m really eager to have the proximity sensor fix working, so it once again becomes something I don’t notice, instead on constantly hanging up, muting or placing calls on hold with my face.

Yes go into Feild test tap the bars at the top so they change to DBS and then respring (hold the sleep button till it says slide to power off then Letgo and hold the home button). now the DBS will be at the top and just tap them any time to switch back to bars.

If i did this to get the #'s to show up is there any way to get back out of field test mode?

It's because you restored it from backup or just updated the firmware. If you had set the phone up as new it would have gone away.

Yes I can toggle between them but is there a way to go back to normal?
I just exited Field Test mode and tapped the numerical signal. It went back to bars and stayed that way (I couldn't tap it back).

Stuck

i closed out of the Field Test App and now they display the # all the time. I tap the corner and it will change to the bars then i go to another app it will change to the # again?
