Actually you can if know how. There are several threads on this.

this is true i got beta 1 to work on my ipad by option clicking update instead of restore, that way itunes and the ipad both think, since its already set up, nothing needs to be done.
downgraded back to 3.2.2 thought because of all the incompatible apps

I must say, beta 2 is running phenomenal. It's really incredible how well it's working. With the exception of a few apps, and maybe slightly faster battery drain, it's been great for me. I can't wait to see what Beta 3 has to offer.

OS 4.2 does seem faster--and I do notice that the text is much clearer in the web browser (I use AtomicWeb, which now supports background suspend on the iPad). I was worried that the iPad's lack of RAM would be limiting (compared to the iPhone 4), but it seems pretty zippy.

I restored to 4.2 Beta2 and it does work quite a bit better than b1. My battery life is actually much better, the speed is about the same and the WIFI issue is fixed.

"I use AtomicWeb, which now supports background suspend on the iPad"

I also use this browser but don't seem to notice the background suspend feature working. Any settings I missed?

I'm digging beta 2 too. Definitely bodes well for the future of iOS on iPad IMO. :D

Do web pages have to reload when switching from AtomicWeb to another app (or to the desktop) and then back? If not, then it is successfully using background suspend.

Battery life has definitely suffered in this version.

I tell you, without a usage meter, and some form of actual real life test results, I'm really on the fence. I was watching a video and my battery life was definitely equivalent to 3.2.2. In some instances, I do notice it draining faster, but not many. It has held up to my day's usage so far.

Beta 1 was definitely very bad at battery life though. Can't wait to see what Beta 3 brings

same here, ive not really noticed a effect on battery life

No, just some bug fixes and supporting video out on the iPhone 4 and 4th gen iPod Touch.

I still have same issue with Netflix exiting right when ready to play video even with the new version.

That's what I'm experience. Opens up, hit play you think its going to happen and bam, exit city.

But I concur 4.2 beta 2 has been great.

iPod Playlists

The iPod app seems to crash when tapping on the playlists icon, also can't make genius playlists from songs. When using voice control to try and play a playlist, it just plays all songs... :( Oh well, yay betas! :D

I cannot even get mine to open if I put any songs on it but music videos work fine.

Yeah, you are right. I've found by powering down the iPad and then powering it back up the issue is corrected - temporarily. Before I was uninstalling Netflix and reinstalling and it still wasn't fixing the issue.

I didn't notice this issue in Beta 1 so I'm hoping Beta 3 fixes this issue.

I am having issues with opening office docs in other clients that I get in emails. I also have the netflicks issues and it seems that safari isn't remembering my usernames and passwords even though I have the proper settings.

Yeah, "open in" from Mail doesn't seen to work for me on Beta 2. As a workaround, I can access my email account with GoodReader, save the file within that app, and then use GoodReader's open in menu to move it to Pages or Keynote.

Ya I do the same thing... it's annoying. At times when Open In.. does show up in Mail - the file won't open in GoodReader. It opens GR and creates a new folder called "inbox" but never opens or downloads the file.

Did or does anyone else have problems emailing photos from the photo library in Beta 2 ?

I tried emailing from 3 different accounts and none of them would send.

Enedec up having to use our other iPad with 3.2.2 on instead.

I had the issue in the first beta, but it seems to be resolved for me in the second. I got an email from Apple when I posted the bug report that they were aware of the issues and that it was being looked at.

I have dumb question. I have 3.2.2 loaded on my ipad and i am trying to update to IOS 4.2 beta but i don't see a update button. I have just have a restore but when i do option-click. Any suggestions?

Connect iPad, click on device and hold the shift key while clicking restore and it will allow you to browse to the beta you downloaded. Assuming you already downloaded the beta ;).
