FAIL. Try being the example of sensitivity and insight you rebuke him for not being. Sorry, but Fullofwin is totally entitled to his opinions, as are you. Nobody should be banned for unpopular opinions. No way.

People would like to discuss real issues and exchanging ideas and information.

Would also be nice if posts showed that thinking things through was involved.

Just by the law of averages it is impossible that Apple only does bad things.
Why knock Apple for EVERYTHING?

No need to be a fan boy, but some fair perspective makes for better posts.

As for banned, agreed NO! Everybody is entitled to their opinion:)

Am I the only one whose main gripe about this update is the change in the SMS alert when the phone is on vibrate (which mine almost always is)?

For those who haven't noticed/don't use vibrate, the tone has gone from a solid approx half second vibrate to two shorter (and I think significantly louder) pulses. Presumably it is to help differentiate between texts and emails, but I think there must have been a slight difference in length of vibration before as I have never had this problem (anecdotal). Anyway, after I upgraded last night I was trying to figure out what was different about the phone and eventually I figured it out. I know it sounds unbelievably petty and I should probably have more to worry about in life, but it's buggin the hell out of me.

No doubt I will get used to it. This is the price one pays for simplicity in a settings menu; fewer configurability options. No doubt the iPad mute switch brigade sympathise.

I notice I don't get the spring animation when launching a new app most of the time. It either works or it just pops up with no animation. Up to 4.3 it was always quite smooth. Now I don't get it 80% of the time. Same thing on my iPad. When it does work I notice it seems faster - I wonder if they played with the settings.

Since I updated my iPhone to 4.3 I do not notice any difference in Battery usage. It is still the same, but I would surely appreciate to have a longer battery time.

I'm raising the BS flag on this one. I'm a registered developer and we don't have anything past the most recent 4.3 update, so unless BGR has some really, really special deal with Apple, the screenshot was a huge fake, as well as any and all speculation that BGR is attempting to put out as "fact."

I shall refrain from updating to 4.3 for the time being. But, when I move into a new apartment in May, I'll need the updated AirPlay and Home Sharing. I hope things get better before then.

Why is this on Page 1?

Why does it matter? Apple releases a problematic update to its software and then tries to fix it, but with little success. I'd say that is front page material.

What I'm afraid of is them fixing the battery issue at the expense of a newly introduced bug. Apple has been pretty shoddy with their OS updates lately.

What was the problem again with WP7 on Samsung hardware again? Was that bricking the devices or just dieing in mid update?

On the comparative snark-o-meter (TM), I think "somewhat reduced battery life until the next point release" is a little less critical than "my WP7 phone won't update and now Microsoft removed the update so now what do I do?". ;)

Whats your point? The person you quted was not making any such comparisons to other phones. He was comparing his battery life on the same phone before and after the update. I'd be curious to know why you'd go out of your way to defend crap battery life?

Somethings up with the Battery

I'm seeing a 20% drain overnight with my iPhone. Before 4.3, 5% would be a more typical amount. Hopefully this will fix it.

Ping pong

I was having TERRIBLE battery life after 4.3. Tried the Ping shut-off suggestion after I restored the phone as a new phone, and the combo has given me awesome battery life back! I went from noon until after midnight on a single charge, including playing a couple games for over an hour, web browsing both on wifi & not on wifi, downloading some apps, a few phone calls, texting, and playing around with some apps.

Definitely helped out for me! I wouldn't be surprised if they fixed the Ping bug in this update.

I did not know anyone used Ping in the first place.

battery life

I don't know if this helps anyone else but it worked for me...

A few weeks ago I downloaded the free US and Canada Lonely Planet guides, after updating to 4.3 I like so many other noticed really poor battery performance so I looked at the settings and found that under each Lonely Planet guide the Send Statistics and Over WiFi Only boxes were on. I then turned these off and noticed an improvement in battery life. Then I decided to restore as well and things seem to be back to normal.

Anyone else tried this? Does it work for you?

Thanks!

Here's how to really extend battery life: turn off Wi-Fi access. I was wondering why my 4G iPod touch kept on losing its charge so fast (and this was with iOS 4.2.1!), until I realized my iPod was constantly accessing my home router's Wi-Fi access point.

As such, I now only turn on Wi-Fi access when I really need it, such as a free public Wi-Fi access point in certain restaurants and bookstores. :)

Mine just started doing this. It was fine after the update, then just a couple days ago it started. I turned off Ping, but that did nothing. I'm trying WiFi now. I think I'll end up to a reset/factory restore.

I surely hope this isn't the standard for them moving forward. Very big inconvenience having to restore each time there's an update...

UPDATE: Turned off WiFi, and no luck. Looks like I'm doing a Factory Reset tonight. BLAH

I upgraded to 4.3, and it was fine for a week or two. Now it's a mess. Plugged in last night, took it off this AM [7:30AM], no use at all, not even a call, and it's 2:30PM EST and it's nothing more than a glass brick.

I'm usually very pro Apple, but their testing blows as of late. Sorry, but QA is non-existent. I mean, all these tests, and releases to the DEV's seems like it's a waste of time? I can see if the focus is newer phones vs. older phones, but I have an iPhone 4! So does my wife; hers is only 3 weeks old, and has the same symptoms...what gives?

One of the things that pissed me off the most was that 1 out of 5 swipes for the "swipe to unlock" screen wouldnt register. i was going NUTS! I went back to 4.01 and it was perfect.

Anyone else have the problem with the "swipe to unlock" screen?

Yeah, I'm getting that too. But it's happened to me before with other versions too. It is more noticeable on this one though. Although I think it was worst on 4.0, then it sort of went away and now it's back again.

Really? I've been on 4.01 since it cane out, never updated until 4.3. Never had a problem with the swipe to unlock. 4.3 came along and all of the sudden it started guying me problems. Back on 4.01, perfect again.

I wish these guys would do better testing. They're experts at putting our money in their wallets though.
