I had terrible battery drain on my 3Gs after one of the previous updates, as well as apps crashing all the time.

A DFU wipe, then set up as a new phone (rather than 'restore from backup') has solved the problem. I don't think it's typically a handset hardware thing - just needs the cobwebs blowing out

I asked this question last night and was told a restore does the same thing as dfu mode?

What's difference?

I've been using my phone pretty hardcore since about 8:30, even using it now to type this:

want better battery life? disable everything! lol

turn off wifi/3g/bluetooth/spotlight search/gps/notifications/push

turn your brightness down to 20-30% with auto set to [on]

don't make any calls or send mms, that really helps with battery life! :p

Mine is pretty much unchanged.(compared to 4.2.1/4.1)

Edit,My battery also drained overnight :( it was @ 28% when i slept(no Wifi or any connections) and it was @ 24% when I woke up.
So I disabled the location service, hope it makes it better.

I think it keeps the gps running even after closing all my programs. The arrow int the top right corner is always there even after closing the gps applications.
It never did this with 4.2.

I had this problem when going from 4.1 -> 4.2 and now I seem to be having it again. The only thing that worked last time was doing a new install rather then restoring it from a backup. Worked great, but lost all my app data. The problem this time doesn't seem as extreme as last time, so I hope that maybe something else will work this time.

What utter rubbish... my settings are the same as they were on 4.1 as I never upgraded to 4.2. My brightness is always low so I am not sure why I need to turn things off all the time in different versions.

First full day with 4.3 and definitely seeing an increase in battery drain.

I normally plug the iPhone in to charge as I am going to bed (11:30pm) and remove from charger in the morning (6am). Even on an aggressive day of use, I am usually plugging the iPhone in at night with 10-15% battery life remaining. Today, I removed the phone from charger at 100%, had a very light day of usage, and the phone was dead (totally dead) by dinner (6:30pm).

Same here with two phones. My one had wifi off and no apps suspended, went from 85+ to 20% overnight. Wife's was 75% or so down to 10% but I don't know if she had anything running in the background. Both have been updated to 4.3 this week.

I haven't noticed anything drastic yet, and I upgraded about this time last night.

I'm at 51% with 3 Hrs, 20 minutes usage and 19 Hours, 38 minutes standby. And that is with watching baseball (on MLB.tv), reading in Stanza, and general net surfing. Pretty standard usage and battery drain for me.

hey

all you need to do is find the app that's using your battery

what i do is close all the background multitasking apps and no battery lost when i wake up

So far the same for me.

Anyone elses "Usage" creeps up too?

And data usage.

Over 10 hours in standby, my usage went up by about 30 minutes, and I had several hundred kb in data usage.

This is with everything off to test... wtf?

I've lost 26% in 2 hours this morning. Might go to the store to get it checked out.

I'm one of those that pretty much never has an issue with any of the ios updates. This one, using ip4, is killing me. Battery usage is WAY down.

Before the update, I'd unplug from the dock to go to work at 6am. By 9pm, I'd still have at least 20% battery left. As of this morning, after roughly two hours, I'm already down 20%. Last night, the battery died completely by 7pm. This is unacceptable. I have changed nothing on the phone. I do leave push, location etc. on. This has never given me battery issues in the past, and it shouldn't be doing it now.

Does the power drain have any correlation to the people the activated the Personal Hotspot feature? I don't mean when using the HotSpot, but just even the fact that you activated it?

Argh

I got the battery drain issue also. My usage time is the same as standby time.

I've made no changes other than the update. I attempted to isolate the problem by methodically switching off services and later checking the usage, but I cannot find the culprit.

I've found that it is NOT the following:
location services
push
notifications
email
contacts
calendar
blue tooth
wifi
spotlight search
closed all background apps

I don't even know what I can check next.

Im affraid i have to jump and join this club too.

Up until saturday (gone) i was on 4.0.1 jailbroken, with push, location services on and notifications on, 3G on always along with wi-fi
I could get two daya out of a full charge!!

Now though, on 4.3 i barely get a day! Thats with everything TURNED OFF and screen brightness down. Royal pita!!
