Just thought I'd chime in here, I too had problems with battery, and I tried resetting all my settings, etc, but the thing that has been the most effective to get my original battery performance is turning off location services. Since I've done this, I've turned a few of the necessary ones on, and since then the battery life has greatly improved. 8 minutes of usage and 4 hours of standby and it was still at 100%. This is on 4.2.1 though. I'm upgrading now.

Well duh, if you're on 4.2.1 why would you see the 4.3 issues?

I'm sick of my iPhone now, have restored to new numerous times, reset settings, turned everything off, and still getting usage creep up and battery life poor in standby.

In 12 hours it has dropped 20% and has a mysterious 1 hour 50 minutes usage, of which I have only used about 15 minutes of.

Regret this so badly now, wish I had good ole 4.2.1 back now

Wow man, I just wanted to offer a suggestion. Maybe it would help. I upgraded to 4.3 now so I'll see how it holds up. Just trying to help.

Starting to get really irritated with 4.3 now, I am using EDGE so it makes my speakers buzz when it's in use, and just sitting here, it keeps buzzing every 1 minute, or whenever I wake it to the unlock screen, 4.2.1 NEVER did this.

Also my data keeps creeping up as a result, over the day it can easily equal 500kb+++ or so, might not seem a lot, but over a month that is going to equal around 10mb-15mb, which is 10-15% of my usage... thanks Apple for eating my battery and data allowance!

Maybe it's time Apple just admit to their failure and allow official downgrades?

Battery drain is horrendous for me. Going back to 4.2.1.

How do you do that? I tried earlier but it didn't quite work out for me, even though Apple is still signing 4.2.1 for restores, what was I doing wrong?

Same here...watched a 3 minute video RIGHT after unplugging phone from charger and it went down 4 percent...in 3 minutes...Gonna give it a week.

I'm also having some battery issue as well. I have yet to find the problem.

However, it looks like it might had been Twitter. It was still showing the location icon even if closed (killed) an was crashing a lot. I removed it and put it back. To early to tell though.

Guys, I know what is causing your battery issues. It is the new Ping curse that Apple integrated deep into iOS 4.3 and is turned on by default. It uses push notifications so it is always running and using data. To disable it, go to:

Settings->General->Restrictions->Ping and kill the beast.

Restrictions is already OFF but when I go into it things are still blue but the bit in General that says restrictions says OFF.

Will try this mate, thanks for the input.

I feel it might work since opening iPod on iPhone seems to open a data connection for no reason at all

If Restrictions is OFF, that means everything listed under it can run. You need Restrictions to be ON and disable Ping in it to turn Ping off.

Does the power drain have any correlation to the people the activated the Personal Hotspot feature? I don't mean when using the HotSpot, but just even the fact that you activated it?

EricE

I haven't activated personal hotspot yet and I can confirm that my battery has gone from great to horrible since updating to 4.3

Yeah I noticed data being used when I opened the iPod too...****ing Apple.

Ok so I disabled "ping" in restrictions and also turned off the location service. Wil report back after few hours.
Hope it gets better.

Well, disabled Ping and still getting usage and data creep up.

Feel like smashing my iPhone against a wall right now

Then it looks like your iPhone has a virus. Possibly from one of the many security holes in Safari that get you infected just by viewing a webpage.

Well I have disabled this ping thing and battery drain still the same.

It lost 3% in space of 15 minutes on my way to work and not even touched the phone.

Dont have the problem with data usage though like some are reporting.
