One of the oddest things i notice with this is even though im using my phone, the standby time is clocking up and the usage is standing still! Then when in standy both clocks update themselves. Really messed up!
Hey guys
iOS 4.3 is causing poor battery performance. Went to bed at 5am this morning and 6 hours later battery has dropped from 100 to 93%. No apps or we pages are running and it had a reboot since I restored the phone rather than just updated.
My phone was jail broken before but all this has been removed. Before battery would drain at 1% every 5mins when in wifi. Now it's more like every 2 mins with a bigger drain when on standby and not doing anything.
I would expect a jailbreak to give poor battery performance but not the new software without it.
Anyone else noticed it? Have I done something wrong?

I had the same problem. I decided to restore it to factory settings, not from backup and manually re-sync everything. It was a pain, but it seems to have done the trick. My battery seems to be back to normal. Although i have noticed that when i launch the ipod, it looks like there's a data connection going on in the backgroundApple better release a fix for this.

That data connection in iPod is the bastard Ping curse Apple introduced in iOS 4.3. It runs all the time when enabled and wastes battery and data, which is the default. Disable it as per my previous post:
Settings->General->Restrictions->Ping and turn it off.

I've tried two things that worked for me, until now at least!
I've activated the restrictions for Ping as u told.
Furthermore, dunno if this was present in previous versions, in "Mail, Contacts and Calendar", despite the obtain data for mail is "off", meaning I had push off and manual for data, there is another option inside this, called "Advanced" folder. In this folder, I realized that despite everything was off for mail it was still on!! and continually obtaining data.. I turned it to manual too...
So far I've 10h standby and 30m of usage and 96% of battery... hope this was the solution!!

When people are saying they've turned home sharing off, are they meaning they have no id and password inputted, or is there separate on/off option
I think they mean the option in iTunes. (iTunes>advanced>turn off home sharing. )
I dont see any problem with it. I always set notification and location service on and brightness around 75%, with email pushed every 15 minutes. Its been 3 hours since my last full charge and still 100%. Im using my phone heavily and it will be around 5% in 1,5 days, mostly used for call, gps, browsing and whatsapp.
However when at home I always turn off 3G as Im using wifi instead.
It wouldn't go down that much. Mine loses a few percentages if I leave it unplugged overnight for 8 hours.I'm sorry but the numbers you posted cannot be accurate. Even if the phone was asleep for three hours you would fall to 93%.
I dunno if you guys are accounting for normal wear and tear on the battery's health... A brand new iPhone's battery is going to perform better than an 8 month old battery; 2% overnight to 6% overnight really seems quite normal to me over the course of a year.
My Macbook battery health dropped 12% in a year![]()
I think I found MY issue. I reset my network settings - battery life is now amazing!
Edit - 1% down in 2 hours. That's much better. Will continue to keep an eye on it and report back.
Second Edit - 5 hours later, including some moderate usage (1 email sent (checking every 15 mins), 4 SMS) = 96%
