It's not obvious dual core is needed. I've yet to see any sort of benchmark or demo that a dual core has distinct advantages over a single core in smartphone environments.

there is a reason that way dual core did attpered first in the mobile and embede space
why have one core at hi clock speed to meet your performances target
when you can 2 cores at lower clock speed that draw less power but still meet your performances target

Furthermore, the fact you supplied clock speeds doesn't make the number non-theoretical. It's a number based on ideal conditions which will never happen.
the the number is based on scene that has 2.5x Overdraw witch isn't that uncommon
imtek is one of few company's like Nintendo that give number that can really be attendant in games

You can dynamically clock cores to meet your power consumption needs. An I- 4 and V8 may both meet your power needs, but the V8 will never consume less fuel at any load level. Similarly, there's always going to be more overhead with running a second core and IPC never scales linearly with core count. If apple has deemed a single core A9 adequate, that's exactly what they will use.

We'll see. If it is a dual core 543 then the point is moot because the numbers are near identical. The one thing I have no trouble believing is that the 543 will get driven harder than the tegra 2 because the developers are out there for iOS as compared to android right now.
