Wow, talk about a lot of "no comments" in the Q&A and note how he avoided the question of no simultaneous voice and data.

It appears the Verizon story was more hype than reality.

I did not know this: if one is downloading data (like buying shares of stock on-line) and you get a phone call, all data stops. You gotta be kidding.

most people don't need to use simultaneous voice and data.... obviously you do... so yo can stay with at&t, and not bug us on verizon

.... anyways

how long til you think we wil get the first t-mobile/sprint iphone rumor?

unlimited data

i kept the unlimited data plan with AT&T. not because i was using it, but because i knew that we'd eventually have stuff like Facetime that works over 3G. last week, Skype came out with video calling over 3G. i've used it away from home and away from a wifi spot. it uses a lot of data quickly. Facetime will be the same way once it gets released to work on 3G.

also, i realize my iPad can work easily on wifi around the city when i am at the library or whatever, but having a mobile wifi hotspot means that i can use the GPS applications on my iPad via my iPhone as i am driving around. that's pretty nice to have the larger screen for GPS. also, my kids can use my iPad or a laptop in the car and i can have my iPhone plugged in to charge the whole time. unlimited data plans are going to be necessary in the very short order or folks will be paying overage charges or doing without.

Flashing new iphone

So since the new iphone from verizon doesnt have a sim card can other cellular companies such as metro pcs flash the iphone over

Give it up. Its not that you don't need it. You just don't have it. People on Verizon settle for this, as well as pathetically slow 3G, for the sake of decent (not good, not great, decent) cellular coverage near their home.

That's it's. They are trade offs. You decide what matters most and you make your choices. Adults understand this.

For me it matters most to have the best product available with the fastest 3G speeds, and that is and will remain the iPhone 4 on AT&T.

If you are in the rare zone of ATT 3G, then great. However, for many of us, the 3G coverage of ATT is a massive issue. While ATT may have faster speeds, its academic if you are not in their exceedingly limited scope of coverage.

I have read so many of these forums over last few days. I don't usually comment, but it amazes me that AT&T people are so adament how terriable service is on Verizon.. Really? Everyone shoudl be happy that Verizon has the iPhone now. More choices.. period... I have a Droid and love it. Fantastic device. Will I get a iPhone? yep, becuase I choose to do so. So if your on AT&T and like your service.. cool.. keep it. Don't rain on our parade. I get text during phones calls all the time and text back while on phone calls. We all undrstand that on AT&T you can talk and do data. So what... That is the decision that we as the consumer make. Why is it as soon as someone says they are goign to Verizon from AT&T they get slammed , sure go to Verizon and accept a lesser iPhone, blah, blah.. People really.. This forum is about Apple products and sharing of info.

Okay off soap box.. slam me if you want.. I make a choice to stay with Verizon "because I choose to, and my precieved better quality network" My choice, not yours.

Love to all iPhone users eaither AT&T or Verizon!!!

The biggest surprise is gonna be all those folks who run to verizon then realize they can t voice and at at the same time..lol they will think the iphone is broken.. then they will come crying back to at&t again.. the verizon iphone is not a good deal due to this huge network limitation..

You dont know what its like to talk on the iphone and perform data operations like web browsing at the same time..lol and you wont be able you use ur hotspot thingy while on the phone either...sad..

Or buy a factory unlocked iPhone.

Not an option in North America. Which is why the iPhone 3GS I am using on T-Mobile was purchased in the Hong Kong Apple store.

A factory unlocked iPhone just means it is unlocked to run on any carrier. That's it. Which features work or not depends on the SIM card inserted in the phone.

In Europe many operators allow tethering and hotspots without any extra payments. Even the data costs are MUCH lower then in US and many times without any data limits. There must be some serious lack of competition in mobile communication services in US since its seems everything else in US is cheaper then in Europe. Hopefully iPhone on Verizon brings some healthy competition and consumers will be getting more competitive pricing and better services.

WRONG! T-Mobile U.K. data announcement.

Again it's just a choice. You(as in AT&T carrier) have spotty connections, or dropped calls. But that doesn't mean in your area it doesn't suit you. Your choice. Again just becuase someone chooses Verizon doesn't mean it's bad. It means it suits thier needs. Signal Quality vs Calls/Data same time. Choice.. Hotspot is a whole nether thing. I dont need hotspot while on phone. Again choice.

I am very happy with my "choice". As it apears you are very "happy" with yours.

And this is not new just to the iPhone. All smart phones on Verizon as this same way.

What I want to know is where all this AT&T love came from after years of hearing how great the iPhone would be on Verizon. I thought this place had a few AT&T fans but not nearly this many. It's interesting.

And I use voice and data at the same time all the time but I think that feature is used very little by the average customer. I didn't even know how to do it until I saw the commercial about a year ago. All those years before I didn't know what I was missing. Hahaha

If you look at past polls showing if ppl would leave AT&T for Verizon, over 50% said they would stay. In this forum, Verizon was the vocal minority....until now.

bad choice due too ignorance of how the phone can work and limitations of the verizon network.. which makes the phone less "smart"...lol its just not worth it to pay more and step down like that may as well get something with android in it

networks cant handle the bandwidth..
AT&T can't handle it.

The rest of the world can.

U.S. mobile operators suck. All of them. Each one sucks less or more depending on where you are, but none of them can be proud of their customer satisfaction ratings. Not a single one. Look at the annual Consumer Reports customer surveys. They are an effin' train wreck. Every single year.

Why is it ignorance to choose the carrier that works for you? The guy in the next cube has an iphone that is acting like an ipod. He has no service. A lot of places in the US just don't have the orange 3G color on their part of the map. I say get what you want. Who cares.

You are not paying $25 for 2GB of data. You pay $25 for "the average amount of data used by customers paying $25 for 2GB of data", and that is a lot less than 2GB. Here is how the phone company calculates a price: "We offer 'up to 2 GB per month'. People buying this use 1 GB per month on average. The cost of supplying 1 GB per month, plus some profit, equals $25 per month. That's what we charge". If you had to pay for the cost of actually supplying $2GB per month then you would have to pay more. If you use tethering, then you will consume more then what the phone company assumed for the avarage user.

I have talked to someone who works in customer service at O2 Germany (they have cheaper data plans that do not allow tethering and more expensive plans that do).

She told me the banned tethering on cheaper plans is _not_ because of higher data usage. There are many customers calling customer care because they don't get tethering to work. Maybe they have some problems with stupid drivers, handsets with buggy bluetooth implementations or whatever. Staff has to be trained. This customer service is simply too expensive to be covered in the cheaper data plan.

There are much less problems with internet access on smartphones (they are usually sold preconfigured with the right settings or customer service can easily send them the correct settings over the air and people who bring their own devices usually know what they are doing.)

She told me obviously everyone at O2 knows there are many people using tethering on cheaper plans even tough its not allowed. As long as they don't call customer service because of any issues with tethering (or because of the included megabytes being insufficient) O2 simply does not care.
