It works for me, what you can try to do is reset the keyboard dictionary. To reset the keyboard dictionary go to settings>general>settings>Reset Keyboard Dictionary. If you have a passcode lock you will be prompted to enter your passcode before your proceed.

Don't want to hijack the thread, but while my "I" seems to work, "me" always autocorrects to "mr" and I've reset my dictionary a bunch of times.

Did you read the thread?

Coming from a unix cli side, I hate capital letters anyway. Especially in texts, because "IT LOOKS LIKE i AM YELLING!"... ;)

I like how you said that but proceeded to un-capitalize the I by habit.

Man knows his *****.
Absolutely correct.

The iPhone does not have multitouch texting. This is why.

what? It most definitely does.Type while holding down the capitalize button, like you're holding down a shift key. It types in all caps. The phone is recognizing both your press on the shift key and your letter presses. That is "multitouch". The phone is sensing and processing both touches.

Also try holding down one letter, then typing others, the first letter you press remains held down (as evident by its popup), the others type, and then, when you release the first letter, that letter is typed. Multiple touches being sensed at once=multitouch

I get the same thing, and it drives me mad. Makes me seem like I'm crazy and referring to myself in some bizarre third person.

'Do you want mr to come over tonight?'

There's a few other annoying little things too, but I don't think it done this before iOS4.

And yes, I guess this explains why I do now completely SUCK at typing in iOS4. I thought I was going crazy, it takes me ages to get a message to make sense.

.. No it doesn't.. If you hold down, say, the J key, then press the D key, the J key is placed with the D key directly after it. Then it no longer recognises you're still holding the J key.

Correct that it does not o this, however it still does have the ability to recognize the keys with one or even four other buttons held down which is a multitouch feature. If it did not have multitouch typing you would be stuck with having to release the other keys before you could do anything related to typing on the phone because it would think that the first key is still held down. This is why swype is so big on some older android phones because it would be impossible to two hand touchscreen type anywhere close to quickly because you would instinctively hitting the next button before you release the first button and it would not recognize the key presses. At least that is how it was on my g1 when I had that.
