My friend is registered on the apple developer program and has said he will upgrade my 3GS to iOS4 if I want it to have a look around it.

I understand that the upgrade has to be done on his MAC as he is running iTunes 9.2 beta.

He says it will wipe my phone which isn't a big issue, however my question is:- Will I be able to sync my apps that are on my Windows 7 PC running iTunes 9.1.1 back to the iOS4 iphone once upgraded? and before iTunes 9.2 is released for Windows?

I don't want him to upgrade if I cant then sync all the apps back.

Let me know your thoughts? Surely I can't be the only person wanting to do this?

Itunes 9.1.1 (both platforms) won't even talk to a 4.0 GM device. No syncing or restore of any kind (except DFU) is possible.

The only way you can sync the apps is if you use "transfer purchases" to move your apps to the mac you're upgrading from, then backup the phone to the mac, then do the restore, then restore from backup of your old config, then sync your apps back. You will NOT get your music back until June 21.

Of course, if he does an upgrade instead of restore, then nothing will be missing from the phone afterwards. I've done this successfully on 3 seperate 3GS's, though I've never been able to get it to work on a 3G.

Thanks for coming back to me..

How do we do an upgrade as he said it would need to be restored? He has an Ipsw file..

If we do manage to do an upgrade I take it I will retain my apps and music, however what will happen on the 21st June after I install iTunes 9.2 on my windowed 7 pc. Will my phone detect a new version available and allow me to upgrade to the final release?

Thanks again for getting back to me..
