Yes, I actually purchased applecare just so I could call Apple and have them tell me to wait for another update or downgrade it!! I want to schedule a genius bar appointment but the apple store is a 45 minute drive each way. I don't want to drive that far and be told the same thing as apple support.

Ive heard a ton about how terrible iOS4 is, so whats up apple?

I actually have enjoyed the changes except for this one "minor" issue. Everything seams to run a lot faster ( I have a 3G touch, I have heard the 2Gs are alot worse) and ibooks it fun to play with. If they can just sort out the wifi I will be a happy camper again.

My wifi is working fine without any resetting or anything. I had it out to a couple hotspots today and it worked fine there, too. My connections are stable and speed is perfectly normal.

If this is an problem I hope its fixed for the iPad. The ipad has enough wifi problems that Steve jobs fails to even fix anytime soon

The way you say that makes you sound bitter, friend. His Jobs-ness promised a fix in a future software update. The company does have a lot of other stuff on their plate right now after all.

My ipod touch says its connected to wifi but it just doesn't work sometimes, i need to turn wi-fi off and turn it on again to make it work, anyone has this problem?

Be glad you can connect at all. My 3G touch will not connect to any wifi after the upgrade. I have tried 4 different access points that worked fine with 3.1 and none of them will connect.

Similar problem here. Starts working after reconnecting to the wifi network but stops shortly after. I've also noticed the signal strength meter varying widely despite sitting within a few metres of the router. No problems before the upgrade so I'm going to try reverting to the previous firmware until the next release

Mine connects fine but I've noticed as well that the signal strength indicator seems to show less of a signal than before and seems to fluctuate more.

I don't know if this means it's more accurate/updates more than before!

I'm having the same problem again and i did reset the settings, i am now sitting right next to my router:mad:

I see the same thing with mine but I don't see a drop off in actual speed, even when it shows I have only one bar in places in my home where I had full bars before the upgrade.

EXactly the Same Here.

Apparently restoring without a backup is supposed to work, i suppose it's worth a shot.

Not for me. I have never restored a backup on the multiple restores I have done. I think there is something wrong with my ipod and if the next update does not fix the issue I am taking it in to the apple store. I have literally tried everything.

I've faced this problem too. The connection doesn't not stable and occasionally lost sometime.

Hope Apple will fix this issue in upcoming 4.0.1 firmware.

Hopefully that's soon, now I'm wondering if the 4G ipod touches will be shipped with 4.0 or 4.0.1 firmware.

I have had a hunch since Monday that his to do with them perhaps lowering the WiFi power to compensate for increased battery usage of the OS. However, my iPod literally disconnects completely and comes back. Sometimes it comes back without an IP address at all. It's behaviors is chaotic and unstable. The entire WiFi icon in the status bar completely disappears and comes back, sometimes flickering on and off like crazy. If it is power saving, they're doing it wrong.

But I don't have mine getting full bars when using apps and then going back down when I stop either, it never stops fluctuating. In fact, the more I use it the worse it gets. I can't be any closer to the router than being in the same room with it.

I'm having the exact same issues with my 3g itouch....and it gets really annoying when you want to listen to internet streaming radio. Hopefully Apple gets a fix out real soon.

A possible fix

Playing around I discovered this procedure; I hope this can help:
Go to wireless settings and join the wifi network
Click on the right arrow to check the details
Confirm you received the DHCP settings
Note down the router IP address
From Safari browse that IP address
It's a kind of wake up call - suddenly the wifi signal icon appears in the status bar and you can start using Internet

Good luck

This is really a workaround, not a fix. The problem shouldn't exist in the first place. But whatever gets it going is good with me :)
An equally effective way to kick it into life is to simply to go to Settings and turn "Airplane Mode" on, then off again after a couple of seconds. This disconnects then reconnects to the wifi network and gets it working again. Until it stops the next time of course.
The only fix for this problem will come from Apple. Hopefully in the first update to iOS4...

i updated from 3.1.3 to iOS4 and all i've been having is TERRIBLE wifi issues!!! i connect to wifi then go to use the internet then my wifi connection gets lost then i have to go into settings>wifi>turn wifi off then back on and then it works...also i have forgotten my wifi connection multiple times and reconnected and still no resolution anyone have any tips to make wifi work EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! it gets annoying having to turn off and turn back on wifi:mad:

Wifi problem with iOS 4.3.3.

Both my iPad and iPhone are having wifi disconnectivity problems post upgrading it to iOS 4.3.3. I hope apple comes out with a faster solution to this. I thing apple leaves one critical problem purposedy with every release so that the immd. next release bcoms important and keeps the jailbreakers in overdrive mode.
