everytime i use my 3G my iphone start getting hot..is that normal??
I have been 24 hours since the update. I really only updated because I never got SHSH blobs for 5.0.1 so I figured it was time I did it now before Apple throws another minor update out and stops signing this firmware too. Not great to be running a devices with SHSH blobs saved if you rely on your jailbreak. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised by the battery life. I hadn't really had issues, per se, before, but the battery drains noticeably slower. Two hours into my work day I'd generally be at 80% by now (read news and things on the 20 minute commute to work while streaming music). Currently at 90%. Now this isn't really enough information for me to definitively say that 5.1.1 has increased my battery life significantly, but I certainly do hope it keeps up.
sometimes I use my 4S for 10 minutes and it's still at 100% but after that it decreases faster.

If we were to assume 1hr lasts me that last 20%, then I can conclude I'd have used 9 hours, 35mins used, 11 hours, 20mins standby(?). Is that decent? Could it be improved?
I think what you got is amazing....couldnt complain...I bet you weren't getting that on iOS 5.0.1 and before....but as always we are automatically programmed to "want more", i think you can appreciate the usage your getting right now....its great. i get about the same and couldn't be happier due to the iPhone being the most amazing out there....really....oh and I keep my iCloud on everything except Photo Stream. Also have 7 mail accounts.....1 on push, others manually fetch. As for system services only turned off "Location based iAd's", "System Time Zone" and "Diagnostic & Usage" everything else is ON. All notifications are ON. Maybe i missed it but i didn't read about your brightness settings....mine are around 40-45% at all given times as well as WiFi+3G+Data is always on 100% of the time.
I think I mentioned brightness. About 2/5 slid right. Little bit less than half-way. Auto-brightness is on. Thank-you for replying, btw!
np, oh ya auto brightness for me is always off, has been since iPhone 3GS days lol, I never enjoyed it for some reason. Thank you for sharing your experience I think it will help shed light to many that their iPhone does last longer than it did before but many people are heavy users and always just want more more more and more, but for a 1430mAH battery we can definitely appreciate what we are getting because if we compare to android phones....their batteries start from 1450-2500mAh...with most above 1650mAh and they just make the day if not even.
I specifically followed these directions in order and have noticed SIGNIFICANT battery improvement.Yes:
- I restored to iOS 5.1.1 from iOS 5.0.1 Jailbroken via iTunes
- Jailbroke my iPhone 4S with Absenthine version 2.0 on my Macbook Air
- Restored my Cydia Tweaks/Ad-Ons after selecting "Setup as a new phone" followed by activation after the restart then restored my iPhone 4S from the backup I made just before restoring to iOS 5.1.1......everything came back exactly as is even my folders got re-organized the same way automatically.

Battery usage on my 4S with 5.0.1 and before seemed not up to par with the iPhone 4 and even 3G I previously had. It drained rather quickly and I suppose I just got used to it. I was charging my phone by 5 PM every day and I was actually hesitating before unlocking my phone and using it if I wasn't going to be around a charger. This caused me to remove some of my jailbreak tweaks that I suspected were battery hogs (IntelliScreenX, Dashboard X, some others) and it did improve a little.
Since following the step by step instructions above, I have added back all of the jailbreak tweaks that I had removed and even more, and the battery life is where I expect the iPhone to be at. I take it off the charger between 7 and 9 AM everyday and it usually lasts till about midnight with moderate usage.
Usually by this time of day I would be in the mid to high 80% bracket with a couple of calls made, checking of emails, and a little browsing. I'm currently at 92%.
Very happy with the upgrade.
I believe it all depends on who you talk to at the Apple Store. Some could care less, some are strict about it.If you jailbreak, does that void getting a free replacement on the spot if you go to exchange phones?

Either way, if you have an issue with your phone, you can remove the jailbreak by simply connecting it to your computer and running a restore in iTunes. Now you can take it in and no one will have ever known it was jailbroken.
