Thanks for the updates, OP. It does suck that 5.1's having battery issues now...ugh. Could you possibly pinpoint what the difference was between the last time you posted prior to the battery problems? Apple really needs to get a hold of this battery issue already!

When I installed it was set-up as a new phone...nothing from back-up.
The log shows the same concerns that I have raised many times before...iMessage. Since this is beta software...this is about as far as I will go.

There are gonna be a few more beta's rolling out....I know Apple will find this bug.;):apple:

I wish I had as much faith as you. Apple went through 7 betas with iOS 5 and didn't catch whatever bug is causing these battery problems. The software has been out publicly for a month and a half and they still haven't squashed it. I do hope the figure it out, but this is starting to feel like the antenna problem where Apple just tried to ride it out and hope that everyone forgot about it. Given that the activity in the Batterygate thread seems to be dying out, I'm starting to think that strategy might work for them yet again. I do hope I'm wrong though...

I do have faith in Apple...I sometimes get disappointed and angry, but they are not perfect. They still build great products...

The beta process is just that... a process. I think it's great they keep rolling out beta's. It's another opportunity to make it better.

this battery problem isn't specific to just the 4S. I have an iPhone 4 running 5.0.1 and my battery is significantly terrible. I'm really tempted to just restore iOS 4 cause I never had a battery problem with that.

As for the whole antennagate issue. I know that there was a problem with the antenna...no question about that. HOWEVER, I have owned plenty of phones that were just as bad if not worse then the iPhone. My last phone...the HTC Sensation was terrible. With one finger on top I could kill my wifi. No grip..just a finger. If I did grip it...it killed wifi AND cell. Before that was the MyTouch 4g...also suffered from the death grip issue.

Many, many phones suffer from this issue....until we can re-write the laws of physics...it will still happen.

Apple was just an easy media target....they (media) finally had something to write about Apple.....Antennagate. All those iPhones defective...Oh No!!

Ok...I will get off my soapbox. Thanks I feel better!!!!!:D

Sure, the beta process is indeed a process. However, we aren't talking about some small annoying bug (like the bluetooth feature being activated when you update or restore to iOS 5 but not showing up in the status bar). This is a significant battery drain problem that is affecting a bunch of users. I use my 4S about the same as I did my 4 (maybe a bit less because I'm afraid of the battery dying on me). With my 4, I would end the day with around 50% battery after normal use. With the 4S, I barely make it through on a full charge. I know everyone (even Apple :)) makes mistakes. I'm just getting a bit antsy that they are going to sweep this one under the rug. This bug has been in the public view for a month and a half with no fix.

UPDATE:

Well after a complete day and a re-charge cycle I hate to report that the battery drain has returned. My phone started to drop right after I removed from the charger. Here are my stats this AM:

2 hours 3 minutes standby
40 minutes of usage (mostly texts via iMessage and regular text/ and a 3 minute call no bluetooth) I can tell you without a doubt that I did not use the phone for 40 mins. Maybe 10 minutes at best. This usage problem is exactly what was happening before....unexplained usage.

Battery: 91%

If it is like before, usage will start to increase quickly and eventually be dead in a matter of a few hours.

Nothing is running except for what I reported....Phone app, message app, and settings.

Looks like Apple has more work to do....:mad::mad::mad::mad:

umm thats good usage...

Try removing your two exchange email for a day. See how battery goes. Might pin point the source of battery drain.

I heard some people reporting their exchange contacts constantly crashing/pulling server or calendar event constantly pulling data draining battery.

My friend had a 4S with 6hr usage and 14hr standby, but the thing is he didnt even touch the phone all day but it had usage. Something must be running. Only thing different is my friend has an exchange email and I didn't

I tought I had drainage

I thought I had a drainage. But my stats are a usage of 8 hours and 27 minutes and a standby time of 20 hours and 41 minutes. Is this good?

I had this mystery usage too in the background that drained my battery. I turned off my iCloud backup, reset all my settings and restored. Hasn't been backed in the past several days. I get around 6 hours of usage and about 24 hours standby. May not be the best, but works good enough for me.

Like me

I normally get over 6 hours usage and 1 day, 3 hours standby on average. Thats with a fair amount of notifications and push on.

which i think is pretty good usage not much different to my 4.

So your getting 21hrs standby cause 1 day 3 hrs is 27 hrs minus the 6 hrs usage in that period equals 21. Apple quite 200 hrs standby which is 8.3 days. Your six hours is what exactly ? 3G surfing? that has a six hour battery spec and would run your battey down Just trying to understand where it all went cause if your not using it for much surely it'd last longer?

Has anyone ever tried to get the 200hr standby time, assume Apple would have had a phone with everything set to off and left it sitting in same place untouched for the duration. Anyone willing to try this? I can't leave mine alone as I'm completely addicted to it.

I think mine is about average, same as everyone else's and yes longer battery life can only be a good thing. Although I do manage to get through a whole day and recharge overnight.

I'm Begining to wonder if the 200hr standby time is fully charge it. Turn off. 8days later switch it on and see 1% battery remaining. Absolutely no use to anyone but looks good on paper.

I updated to 5.0.1 the day after it was released and my battery life was still awful.

2 days ago, I let it drain fully and shut down, then charged fully overnight.

New GREAT stats:
battery at 27%
Usage: 4 hours, 35 minutes
Standby: 21 hours, 20 minutes

I'm impressed. Finally better results than my old BB Torch!

I'm starting to wonder if this is a hardware issue that can't be fixed by updates. It's not hard to run a program that shows what using what power at what stage and time then adjust that setting. If it's not hardware then I think they are doing this on purpose so that you have a choice of jailbreak with bad battery life or take the battery fix and prob have all holes closed for jail breaking! I would be very surprised if there's not some kind of security update on 5.0.1 and the battery issue is still not fixed. Seems like hackers and apple are at a stale mate at the moment.

I'm starting to think it's hardware too. A quick google search will turn up several articles about how 5.1 doesn't fix the battery drain for some folks. I think Apple may be claiming it is software to avoid having to do a recall. I'm pretty annoyed because I have held on to the phone well beyond the return period thinking the battery issues would be fixed in a software update and there is nothing in sight. Looks like it may be time to try an exchange at the apple store.
