My 4S still drained 7% sitting idle over night.
Not as bad as before but still not acceptable in that it used to only drain 0-2%. :(

Mine fluctuates in the "overnight" drain... some nights it's literally 1-2% some nights up to 5%... (still on 5.0.1 though)

I've been running the 5.1 beta for some time, would have thought this was essentially the same update. However, after upgrading this morning (ALT-UPDATE from a downloaded package from iclarified = 10 minutes and done) I've noticed a much better signal strength from my carrier.

Teh best test is when I go sir on the toilet, normally I get no signal, today I had nearly full-strength on EDGE.

So has anyone done a test on this "4G" label my provider (AT&T) has placed on the screen? Is it truly 4G?
It's still just HSPA+. I don't know about other people but I just consider that to be 3G Plus as I call it. LTE is the true 4G in my eyes. Kind of disappointed that Apple let them throw that in but oh well.

Mine shows 4G in NYC, almost everywhere, even if its taking ages to download content.

Shouldn't the camera app be available as soon as you press the home button on the lock screen?

Interesting - I have the camera app on my home screen when I single click, but when I click the camera icon, all it does is bounce a little - it acts like it's going to open the camera app (scroll up), but it doesn't actually launch the camera. Am I missing a setting somewhere?

ETA: NM. I figured it out. Duh. You slide the whole thing up, instead of it launching the app. Color me silly.

I call it enhanced 3G. I think 3G plus is good too.

4G that's the speed of EDGE! YAY!

Only the iPad 3 has 4G LTE hardware. iPhone 4S didn't come out with it. It's still using 3G technology. So if your on an iPhone, your really just getting 3G, maybe a more efficient use of it now with the update. If you have the new iPad 3, and if your carrier provides it, you will be on 4G LTE.

Ugh, being a designer and seeing that the new 'slide to unlock" and camera button are not centered on the grey area and more toward the bottom is an oversight that I can not agree with!

FIX IT!

I saw that at first too, but then realized it was just my lock screen image that didn't go all the way to the bottom. Looks centered to me...

My solution to the errors

In case anyone else here has a similar set up and is having problems:

I was getting the same errors on my 4S and iPad2 as others here. I tried changing the DNS server on my Airport Extreme with no luck. Then I remembered that my Airport Extreme was downstream of my Fios modem/router, so I changed the DNS server on the Fios device and it started working instantly on my 4S. My iPad however was still getting an error message. Once I plugged the iPad into my MacBook Pro it found the update right away.

Hope it helps for someone else that may be having problems getting the update.

Nope, it's still the latter end of 3G tech called HSPA+ (which is technically capable of 16Mbps but will NEVER reach that).

I've been trolling on some AT&T forums about it since last night.. it's really quite frustrating.

HELP!!!! All of my iOS devices are failing to up date to 5.1! What do I need to do? iTunes is upto date.

Yep, the iOS 5.1 update has made my iPad 1 feel more responsive. When I look at the amount of free memory available it appears that iOS 5.1 uses less memory then iOS 5.0.1. I am pretty happy with the update.

Good news, I downloaded and installed last night but didnt have a chance to check it out before work this morning

Installing the update corrupted my Mobile Data settings. Hope that won't happen every time there is an update. I wish PDA makers would not guess what these settings should be.

I think you're partially right. The new iPad will be the only device to allow use of an LTE network. However, (speaking as an AT&T customer) the iPhone 4S can use HSPA+ where available, and it has been that way since the release of the 4S. The only thing that has changed is the fact that iOS 5.1 now shows "4G" where HSPA+ is available instead of 3G. The term "4G" has turned into a loose term in the phone industry. Each company has a different standard for what speed they consider to be 4G.

Am I the only one booting into recovery mode after installing this?
Honestly, iOS is just so annoying sometimes.
