iOS5 is more important.

I agree. Unlike the many spec-monkeys on here, the specs on the iPad don't bother me. Nor are the fancy pants dual-core spec-list-to-the-gills new tablets coming up tempting me to switch.

What *is* tempting me to switch, however, is what seems to be the amazing OSes that come on them. webOS especially.

Yes, iOS 5 is more important. It's the only thing between me and switching over to the "dark" side. Or is it now the "light" side?

Wrong. Under normal everyday conditions, with an unbroken arm, it is not possible for me to touch my right elbow with any of the digits on my right hand. Fact.

I can arrange a cab for you if you're too embarrassed to get to work or school tomorrow. Just let me know.

What I want to hear is that the iPad 2 (too) will be given a free upgrade to OS5 when it is released. Seems reasonable to me as that is what happened last year with OS4

all i know is i was bombarded w/ emails from apple to renew my ios developer profile. so i hope this means something big is coming.

It means your provisioning profiles and/or iOS Developer membership is expiring and needs to be renewed like it does every year.

1. We sold so many iPads last year. We are proud of iOS devices.
2. We opened more stores in china and customers love them.
3. Users downloaded 10 billion apps. We have over 350000 apps at app store.
4. Here is the preview of iOs 5.0 and due this summer.
5. We are going to talk about 8 of them. But, there are over 300 features.
6. blah blah blah blah
7. Oh, and here is iPad with camera.
8. You can now always let your boss know where you are suppose to be with iPad.

9. Oh, and it will cost 499 dollars. amazing, isn't it? Our competitors won't get us.

10. Oh, and That's it for today.

Funny! I think it would be a great speech!

BEST POST I have read on MacRumors for months. Awesome....

Here is how I see it:

•*4.3 is definitely coming to us, its not out yet so needs time to arrive.
• Announcing 5.0 straight away wouldn't happen because 4.3 is yet to come.
• Likely of a 5,0 beta also largely unlikely as it would make it a rather developer orientated announcement (in my opinion).
• Apple specifically had iOS software events for past versions, E.G 4.0s original announcement.

For that reason, I strongly believe no iOS 5, however a beta could come around in the next month or two, if not, then WWDC time.

Same here. I know I'm upgrading to the new iPad even if it's only marginally improved because I want to replace my current iPad with a 3G one but what I'm really excited for is iOS 5. :)

I hope they include iPad 1 in the iOS 5 love-in. I have very little doubt that they will, but one thing that's been nagging at the back of my mind is that last year they announced that iPad would be upgraded to iOS 4 for free, but didn't say anything about updates beyond that.
As I said, I'm 99.9% sure that they won't abandon iPad 1 that quickly, but with Apple, anything is possible...

i think it will be free. the only thing i'm concerned about is whether or not it is a "slim" version.

I think it will be free but would it be that much of a big deal if it wasn't? I mean, how many companies add that many new functionality to a year-old device?

it will 100% be free, in my honest opinion. iOS5 is AGES away i feel.

I doubt it. Major iOS updates come out once or twice per year with June/July the usual major update release time. iOS 5.0 with a completely revamped notification system and XYZ exciting widgets are a good start.

I don't care if it's free, just that it's available: I'd happily pay for major iOS upgrades just as I do for major OS X ones.

oh, by ages away i meant more around August :p as opposed to the media event that is soon for the ipads - and whatnot.

Must you be whelmed by every event? For people interested in a revised iPad this will be plenty whelming.

They don't do a new event for every update of MacBooks. When they host an actual event, usually it's to announce something important.

You made an incorrect assumption: I am interested in a revised iPad, and if that's the only announcement I won't be "whelmed." Well, no, that's not entirely true. If it's more than just "thinner, lighter, more memory, and a camera," then I might be whelmed.

I know I might get hated for saying this.

But I'm going to feel a little disappointment if we get the iPad2 and it's exactly the same UI with all the exact same features as the current model, just running a bit faster with facetime added.

I suppose I'm hoping for something more than that, but I suspect it's going to be just the same front end as the current model.

I just would like something new.
Perhaps a few widgets, perhaps multitasking previews, I don't know, just something so it looks like I actually have a new device that does something new that I did not have before.

Widgets just ain't gonna happen IMO, but I think we'll have to wait for iOS5 for any other dramatic software changes.

Looking at the Lion preview, I would say we are def getting a better file system at some point this year for the ipad.

Would like to see some kind of user accounts on the ipad, even if it was just for mail

I think an iOS 5 announcement will be made sometime after the iPad 2 comes out so that Apple can brag about how well it's selling compared to the Xoom. Apple's not in a rush to release 5.0 since it usually is bundled with the new iPhone and not the new iPad. But yeah, I'm pretty anxious to see what it's going to be.
