I will give them iMessages. Something that people have been discussing a desire to have in JailBroken devices for awhile, and they brought it first.

I actually do have this on my jailbroken phone with use of Google Voice. But I do like that this with be an Apple thing now. Man, guess all those unlimited texting plans will no longer be needed so much.

I don't know what all the complaining is about. Everyone wanted a new notifications system, Apple is going to implement that. Yes, the features don't blow me away, but they are better than what we currently have on iOS 4.3.3.

I mean I already have Notified Pro and BiteSMS installed on my JB iPhone, but I will be looking forward to the iOS 5 update when it's released this fall.

lmao. apple can say this to many jailbroken apps, too. i do like that it makes me not want to jailbreak even less, but there are still a couple apps i cant live without

Yes.

some nice new features.

Clearly Apple is looking at what is most popular amongst the jailbreaking community and what Apps sell the best to determine their next additions.

The lock screen = jailbreak feature
iMessenger = WhatsApp (but actually less feature rich)
iCloud = Apple's walled garden of DropBox
Reminders = Honey Do + location services
Read It Later = Instapaper
Volume Button as camera button = Camera+ before they were booted

That being said - it's a step in the right direction with a few of the features. It's hard to believe it took until 5.0 to get crop and some other basic photo tools.

Having the iPad (and other iDevices) not require a tether anymore is great

Native twitter integration is also great

I have to agree that it ios 5 looks like refined jailbreak apps added on but I think the biggest thing I took away from today is that the next iPhone will almost certainly come out this fall and ship with iOS5. That could explain what the other 190 "new" features are. I guess September was right after all.

I agree 100% I'm just still stuck on the fall timeline. IMO they sould be able to/need to roll this iOS out before fall. I'm sure the "new" iPhone will arrive running ios5 but we shouldn't have to wait until then to use features that have been available in cydia for over a year.

Frankly, I kind feel the same, haven't really been "wow"-ed.

It's the same old UI basically, I expected something really new... Widgets.

Turn-By-Turn maps.

I'm wondering if the Stock and Weather ticker is part of the Notification System permanently. Can it be removed, I wonder?

I certainly hope so, those two should be replaced with toggles like SBSettings - Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Airplane, Volume, Orientation, etc...

and if i read correctly, this includes wifi sync? i miss that so much. im glad its included, cause i swear my cords are never around when i need it

SBSettings type feature still eludes us. I will probably jailbreak iOS5 just for that if nothing else.

Agreed: How to have IOS 5 style nofication NOW

First of all I love this new notifications style that Apple is adopting in the new iOS 5. *That is because I am already using it. *

This is not really very well compared to mobilenotifier this is alot better. *I was disappointed when I heard Apple hired the developer of mobilenotifier Peter Hajas cause I don't really like his implementation. *It does not keep a history of all notifications. *That is my only complaint about it. *IOS 5 notification is actually more like a combination 3 jailbreak apps called: Notified Pro, Notification Grip for Notified Pro (may require hard reset to install), and Popup Blocker. *

After you install this you make *tweaks and set it up to your preference. *Like i have it so that when i slide down from top the Nofied Pro is launched showing all notification. *The "Grip" part *is what shows you the notifications as it comes in and takes the place of the standard pop up from Apple which you need to block with popup blocker. *So for those of you that don't want ot lose your jaibreak but want this very similar experience now I recommend this method. *It is not free but should cost around $3 bucks for all.

No widgets, no quickreply, no updates to maps, weather, or the UI = boring. Still way behind Android in features, and no new phone this summer really makes this look lame.

Oh yea, where is that system wide voice control??

:apple::rolleyes:

LOL, what did you expect? I'm for one absolutely happy to see iOS 5, and it is by far the best mobile OS.

It's funny, people say "the next iOS needs to have x,y,z from jailbreaks" And now that we do have these features everyone is saying "wtf iOS 5 = iOS 4 + jailbreaks".

Btw, there are 'widgets' it's in the drop down menu, such as weather and stocks etc. I bet they will update iOS 5 with 5.x and add more 'widgets'.

Although I can't wait for iOS 5, there are still plenty of reasons I would need to JB.

3G Unrestrictor
Folder enhancer
SBsettings <<<< How did Apple miss this one?
iProtect
iFile
TetherMe
User Agent Faker

Probably more but that's all I can think of now.

I'm on iOS 4.1 jailbroken, and I hope there's a clean way to get to iOS 5 while keeping all my jailbroken apps.

I think the point is that it shouldn't have taken them this long to implement these seeming simple features. I'm waiting to see the tabbed browsing for the iPhone but I have a feeling that it won't be there just like the gestures. I'm sure the behind the scenes improvements are there but it isn't very exciting. I like how the notifications flip down and wifi sync is pretty cool but that's about it for me.

Imo they needed to add MORE stuff from the jailbreak scene like the ability to quickreply to a text without leaving whatever you are doing. The new notification system is nice, but other than that, it looks like it's mostly minor changes here and there, and things which only benefit iPad owners. The cloud is pointless for me since I only have a gig of music.

There's just so much more that they could have done.

And that weather thing in the notification drop down is not a widget, and the stocks in it is just ridiculous, a music widget built into it would have actually been useful.
