I think Jobs should start out showing an iPad with a Windows XP UI on it. Just for kicks. Hype it like it's the next best thing with amazing features and so on. Then turn around and look surprised, claiming it's the wrong slide, and say he'll be firing someone for putting it into his presentation.

Then he switches to a new UI. Amazing graphics, with a list of OS features everyone has been begging for. Ubiquitous printing, a file system, a command line if they want. Oops... All the features Windows XP had when it first came out.

All mr. jobs has to do is look at the jailbreak community so see what these iDevices could be.

Won't though.

They have to steal from Android. That is the only way. The best notification system by far. Plus the easy toggles. Pull down menu is a genius way to increase real estate.

Im sure they'll steal from Android while making it look like they're not stealing from Android.

Multi-touch gestures

I'm surprised I haven't heard anything about the multi-touch gestures that were available in one of the recent developer iOS update releases. It makes the iPad experience so much smoother and easier to jump between apps. I'm hoping we see this as a mainstream release with customizable options.

Apple should take ques from Windows 8: side by side apps, and switch from Mac OS X and iOS with one click, for the odd app that's not on the app store for iOS, and live tiles, but Apple can do it much better: widgets - that are like the dynamic tiles.

I'm not sure how or for what reasons it could be implemented, but I really like the concept of swiping in from the bezel onto the screen to pull in menu's and icon areas from the sides like a sort of overlaid slide in window.

This takes up zero screen space, it so easy to do and give you four potential areas that you can swipe from to view/access something.

So basically steal from android and put it in all 4 corners ;)

If that is stealing from Android, then Android stole from early jailbreak software. Heck, Honeycomb's toggle menu is a rip from SB Settings, which is sort of a rip from desktop OSes except it uses swipes instead of clicks.

are you calling me a fandroid? i have an ipad 2 and a galaxy s II

i'm not trying to start a flamewar i was just joking. Android knocked notifications out of the park - you can't deny it. Basically this shows that both platforms have strenghts and weaknesses.

I would be fine with Apple taking from android and i hope they do. I just made the snarky comment because apple loves suing people who "copy" them :)

Amen. Those gestures make using the iPad 100% better/easier/more natural. Whenever I use my GF's iPad I go to perform the gestures and get frustrated when they don't work and I have to use the clunky home button.

I think we're going to see Apple embrace gestures wayyy more this release.

I'm not calling you anything; I have a DroidX and several iThings.

I'm expecting Apple to announce iOS 4.4 to give us some iCloud goodness to tide us over until iOS 5's release (likely in September). iOS 5 will probably have a much deeper integration with iCloud than iOS 4.4.

You can already do this.

  1. Start composing your email
  2. Switch to the photos app
  3. Tap/hold on a photo and select "Copy" from the pop-up
  4. Switch back to email app
  5. Tap/hold where you want to insert photo, select "Paste" from the pop-up.
  6. Repeat steps 2-5 as needed

Granted this is neither intuitive or simple for multiple photos, but the capability is there to do this.

That's what I do, and while it works, it's clunky.

Also annoying? The inability to resize pictures before you send them - ended up buying an app so that I can send someone a pic I pulled off my camera without sending a 12 megapixel image... Another one of those basic things that's been overlooked.
