The simplest things:

  • Status bar icons for notifications
  • Hide unwanted app icons (Newsstand, Stocks, etc)
And my most-missed thing from Android:

  • Turn-by-turn navigation (Google Maps)

Yes, status bar icons for notifications, I love that and completely agree.

Ohhh, lots.

  • A file system - you don't need to give me access to everything, but a documents folder or something? Very much so. Hearing Steve object to this was incredibly depressing.
  • File uploads from Safari.
  • A Safari plugin architecture
  • Better closing of apps in the task manager - say by dragging the off the bar.
  • More accessible toggles for the various radios.
  • Bluetooth file transfer.
  • Podcast subscriptions (argh!)
  • Deep Facebook integration.
  • Vector maps in the maps application so text stays horizontal.
  • An intelligent way of switching user profiles.
  • A YouTube app that provides decent channel navigation and searching by most recent upload.
  • Being able to view file information in photos (say date of taking etc)
  • Being able to cue up a track in the iPod app rather than playing straight away.
  • Being able to get to the EQ settings from the iPhone app rather than the UI nightmare that is navigating to them now.
  • Orientation lock working on landscape.
  • iTunes to back up saved games that can be re-loaded to the device even if you delete that application (I know iCloud will do this on future apps, but not retrospectively).
  • Being able to add attachments in the mail app.
  • An alarm system I could have any degree of confidence in.
  • Facetime to be opened up as was promised so it can go cross platform and actually take off.

I know most, but not all are happy with iOS 5. So, what's missing? What do you want in iOS 6? I want improved maps and live icons. :)

P.S. If you don't like this thread, don't post in it. Thanks. ;)

NEW
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
- MUCH improved Maps app with free navigation with an ability to download maps to use them offline
- Widgets/Live icons

- Integrated SIP support
- DivX/XviD/MKV support
- Full Bluetooth support, sending files, contacts, syncing, etc...
- Wi-Fi Direct support
- App Fragmenting to display on Lockscreen/Widgets

IMPROVEMENTS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
- iMessage - Needs an ability to share location(Map) like with WhatsApp - Would be great if we could send a location and then the receiver could start routing/navigating right from iMessage.
- Weather in the lockscreen, near the clock.
- Calendar events in Notification Center/Lockscreen
- Calendar event badges on calendar(with a configurable look-ahead, show events for the next 7 days, 14 days, etc..)
- SBSettings(Quick switches) in Notification Center - Wifi, bluetooth, airplane, cellular data, 3G.
- Custom SMS/email tones, M4R support.
- Increase folder size, allow for multiple pages in folders - InfiniFolders
- Integrate Spotlight search into notification center - put it on top(above stocks)
- iCloud PhotoStream, why not allow sharing pictures like sharing Calendars? Linking images, etc...
- Delivery notification for normal SMS messages
- Notification Center needs a "Clear All" button.
- Snooze time configuration option for alarm, (amount of snoozes, time in between)
If Notification banners are ignored they won't show up on the Lockscreen - They should.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
iTunes improvements... on Windows, drag and drop pictures, ringtones and videos into the iPhone without the need to sync.

Ohhh, lots.

  • Being able to view file information in photos (say date of taking etc)

I'd like this too.

What about Safari being able to detect meaningless posts and just not display them? ;)

Only thing I miss from my droid is the tiny blinking light to let me know I have a new/un-viewed something, like a text, email or missed call...

There is so much missing in iOS 5...

- A full fledged offline navigation - Considering both Microsoft and Google will offer these, Apples need to do it too.

- Live icons, not asking for widgets, but live icons would be very nice.

- Integrated SIP support like Android Gingerbread

- DivX/XviD/MKV video support

- Full Bluetooth support, sending files, contacts, syncing, etc...
Wi-Fi Direct support

- App Fragmenting to display parts on Lockscreen, like WP7. Useful for apps like ToDos and grocery apps.

- SBSettings(Quick switches) in Notification Center - Wifi, bluetooth, airplane, cellular data, 3G, and maybe multitasking bar in Notification Center

- Increase folder size, allow for multiple pages in folders - InfiniFolders

- Integrate Spotlight search into notification center - put it on top(above stocks)

- Camera app needs Timer, etc..

- Birthday - show how old is person is turning into

- Delete photos from Photo Library

- Being able to view file information in photos (say date of taking etc)

- YouTube continuous playlist play

- Delivery notification for normal SMS messages

- Snooze time configuration option for alarm, (amount of snoozes, time in
between)

- If Notification banners are ignored they won't show up on the Lockscreen - They should.

- Swiping to get rid of notification banners - swipe them left or right.

- Tunes improvements... on Windows, drag and drop pictures into the iPhone without the need to sync.

Just let me save files from the browser and email attachments ie:
1. PDFs
2. MP3s
3. Word documents
4. Excel spreadsheets
5. Powerpoint presentations
6. Video (ie not just .mov and .mpeg4 but also .wmv and .avi)

I cannot believe that anyone here on the forum would object.

- Live icons, not asking for widgets, but live icons would be very nice.

We can only hope. As long as it doesn't kill battery life. I mean, they already have badges so it can't be too bad.

- DivX/XviD/MKV video support

I highly doubt this will ever happen given Apple's love of your money and iTunes existence. Have you tried the only app I've seen that supposedly plays mkv files? I think it's called Good Player but I'd just search for mkv and see. Supposedly it works nicely, I just haven't tried it since VLC still works for me.

- Full Bluetooth support, sending files, contacts, syncing, etc...
Wi-Fi Direct support

I'm thinking we won't see this until Apple jumps on the NCF bandwagon, which is sad...

- App Fragmenting to display parts on Lockscreen, like WP7. Useful for apps like ToDos and grocery apps.

- Integrate Spotlight search into notification center - put it on top(above stocks)

What if they combined these ideas and made the swipe right of the home screen a widgets screen, sort of, where you have toggles for wifi, bt, etc and then widgets like todo lists. Keep the search box here and just have it overlay the results on the "dashboard."

- iMessage - Needs an ability to share location(Map) like with WhatsApp - Would be great if we could send a location and then the receiver could start routing/navigating right from iMessage.

Totally love this idea. They need more things that make you believe it deserves the moniker of "smart" phone.

- Calendar events in Notification Center/Lockscreen

Already persistent in notification center as of beta 2.

- Delivery notification for normal SMS messages

As far as I am aware this is more a carrier limitation than something Apple has any control over.

-I'd like to add Speech to Text

-A File system akin to how the photos app works. You can save to it from anywhere. You can access it all in one place. You can access it from within apps. You can now create other libraries (folders / directories) that are one level deep with it. I want it to function exactly like photos does but just call it files or something. Just like when you long press on an image and get the option to save it to photos, the same should work with accepted file types like pdf, doc, txt, xls, ppt, pages, keynote, numbers, etc. With this implemented then it would be very easy to give apps access to it and then even allow uploads via Safari or an easy way to have attachments in mail.

I would like for there to be a way to queue up songs on your ipod. I know you can do an on the go playlist but sometimes I don't want to make a concrete playlist. I think it would be awesome to be able to pick maybe 3 or 4 songs in a row. So say you are going for a 20 minute car ride and you queue up 5 songs quickly and thats it. Once they are played they disappear off the queue.

I'd really like to see the ability to set up multiple user accounts. This really makes sense on the iPad since one device often ends up getting shared among family members, but it would also be nice to have this option for the iPhone (any parent who uses their iPhone to entertain the kids during spells of boredom will understand this one).

Custom Tones for default Clock app

Custom tones for default clock app because i'm tired of the default alarm tone sound.

I just want 2 simple things right now..

1) a notification icon on the status bar to inform me that i have a pending notification

2) i want to be able to have an empty home screen. I'd like to see the wallpaper when i turn on the iPhone, and would swipe to the left for the apps. The grid-like apps on the first home screen is a real killer for the beautiful retina display, as it just covers the background.

Account support for iPad.

I don't like my kids messing around with my stuff, I'd rather they have an account they can mess with. Also I want to lock them out of certain apps

Is there a reason why YouTube videos can't be downloaded without a jailbreak???

Unless it's one of the tiny, tiny minority under a new creative commons YouTube licence, it's not lawful to do so in either the US or Europe and is a breach of the site's terms and conditions of use.

(There are actually non-Jailbreak solutions to this, but seemingly more because of Apple not paying attention more than anything else).
