I understand that evasi0n will be updated shortly, but wondering:

If I have all my 4S SHSH blobs saved and downloaded the ipsw 6.1 file, will I be OK restoring to it?

Figured this is the easiest way to wipe everything from my 4S to sell and begin to use my 5. :)

Asking on behalf of my dad with regards to this;

He received a message from Vodafone advising NOT to upgrade to 6.1 as they have an issue regarding the network and were waiting for Apple to release a fix, which is presumably this.

He currently operates 6.1 evasi0n jailbreak. How does he go about upgrading to 6.1.1 ? Do you simply plug and and click "Update"? Or will he have to lose the jailbreak, all the tweaks and setup and then re-jailbreak? I've never had to do this before myself. My only experience was from 5.1.1 to 6.1 - which involved me doing a factory reset in order to clear the phone of all the crap I had played with beforehand.

im kinda at a loss as well.

but from what i gathered you need to wait for evasi0n to give the all-clear to update to 6.1.1 (and for them to patch it as well), then i'm afraid you will lose the jailbreak when updating to 6.1.1 and will have to jailbreak and apply everything again.

Nice to see, UpdateKiller works on my 4S!

You shouldn't need that, as the latest update to the evasi0n jailbreak (if you've updated through Cydia or JBed recently) disables OTA updates natively.

Yup. This is the big downside to jailbreaking: updates are a pain. If you really want to make tweak reinstallation painless, you can use something like PkgBackup to quickly restore your jailbreak stuff after you've restored your regular phone data and apps.

Question guys, if I want to update do I just hit the "restore then update button"? Or do I need to do something else? I read some where that I need to set cydia host on exit in tiny umbrella but I tried that and I keep getting error message. That feature is grayed out and I can't choose it?

I haven't noticed any 3G issues since I updated... is there a test to see if your phone has whatever is reported to be the problem?

i havent either...

but if i don't update to 6.1.1 (and it pains me to even think about it), i will always have that doubt in my mind if my 3G is broken - or blame any future connectivity problems to my *not-updated* firmware even if it has nothing to do with it.

All we need to do now is wait for the JB to drop, save the SHSH blobs, update, and JB again.

Sucks for those 4S users who did some major tweaking (may now have to wait until their themes/tweaks/apps get updated), but at least the exploits are still there.

BL.

I'm a 4S owner and yes, while it does suck because i have all my tweaks installed and everything set up just how I like it, I'm am so relieved to see Apple release 6.1.1 for the 4S. I have never experienced such bad battery drain in my entire jailbreaking life. I have expereinced excessive drain a few times in the past, but they were due to either a faulty package from Cydia or it was my email client (which was easily fixed by deleting the account from the phone and setting it up again after a reboot).

So nonethelss, I am praying this new firmware will at least somewhat fix my crazy battery drain. Today for example, I left the house with 100% battery. I only used it once throughout the entire day and that was for about 15 mins on Safari. I just got home about 8.5 hours later and my battery is at 37%. That has NEVER happened to me. I only sent out 2 text messages, received 4, plus my phone never rang once. Since updating to 6.1, on days where I use my phone as much as I want, I would have to charge it by the 4 hour mark. Heck, I'm losing about 25% while I'm sleeping. Up until 6.1, I'd only lose 1 maybe 2%. I'm thinking this is all related to 3G because the only other known bug is with exchange email. Here's hoping evasion gets updated soon and 6.1.1 solves my annoying battery drain! (I feel very confident my battery will be back to normal after the upgrade)

The only way is to do the following:

1. Backup your phone using iTunes
2. Restore to 6.1.1
3. Restore from backup (instead of setting up as a new phone)
4. Jailbreak again

I went ahead and updated my 4S.
I decided to set up as a new iPhone instead of a previous backup as I wanted to kind of clean up some junk I am sure was deposited over the last few days by all the tweaks and whatnot I was applying (and then subsequently removing!).

I also decided to keep it super simple.
No Winterboard. No silly stuff, just the tweaks I actually use (with a couple of preventative measures thrown in).

We'll see how long this lasts before I start adding additional Cydia tweaks!
