just like antennagate the maps thing is blogger internet hysteria to get page hits. its got its problems but it works pretty good. not as much data as google, but not a big deal

Not a big deal... unless you happen to live in (or often travel to) the areas where the data is severely lacking, then it is a big deal.

First of all, chances are, the wife has a name. And for something as stupid as a minor software update, she can do to HER phone what she wishes. You probably also forbid her from seeing her family, eating what she wants, what job she can have, who she votes for, etc. What a sad life for her to live...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

SNORT

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

That's some funny stuff there. She my wife and it's none of your business what her name is. If I would have said I forbid Jane to update, you would have been like who's Jane:confused: anyway.

Not that I need to explain anything but just for your twisted head, She (the wife) is a typical Apple user, understands nothing about the inner workings of her phone and doesn't care to. She just wants it to work. I, on the other hand, tinker constantly, jailbreak, flash, root etc etc. When she saw some of the things I could do with my iPhone, she wanted that ability on her phone, so I jailbreak hers. Then she plugs in and iTunes says update, so she does, now jailbreak is gone, along with all the added features and apps she was using.

Now she brings it to me, says fix it, and I say sorry, can't. She's not happy. Remember, happy wife, happy life. She did that a couple times. It's never good for me because she doesn't understand that not everything can be fixed with iOS. So a long time ago I told her never to update anything. I would take care of it all when it was safe (for us) to do so.

Oh. Well, that makes more sense. When I see the word forbid it seems that you're standing over her telling her exactly how to live. What you actually do is advise her not to upgrade because you take care of her stuff for her. Ha. Cool beans. That makes sense. What a helpful husband.

Apple claiming they had the fastest update rate of any software release is yet another of their stupid manipulative scams. Let me ask, besides a version number change, what exactly did the iPod Touch 4G and 3GS get??? Hardly anything... Saying they run iOS 6 is an absolute joke, when they only have 10% of the new features... At least with Android, if and when we get an update, it comes with everything in the OS... Not, well the iPhone 3GS has been "updated" to iOS 6, but unlike the other models, doesn't have Siri, or fly over, or offline reading list, or paroramas, or turn by turn, or VIP mailbox, or shared photo stream, or facetime over cellular, etc....

So no features is better than some?

I have had no problems on my 3gs or 4s.
The maps in my area are really no worse than other mapping solutions - I have found problems with all. Obviously, there are some really big errors for which there is no excuse but there will always be local errors. The effort to update any mapping system and the volume of changes is huge. I think I read somewhere a while ago that 10% changes yearly. Apple also can't just fix things automatically because 1 person said so. I could say that my competitors store was 1/2 mile off (when it wasn't) and if Apple just changed it it would be worse than currently but maybe better for my business.

I also am amused when people complain that their several generation equipment can't do what the current ones do. Why do you think there are later models - they introduce functions, etc. that didn't exist before. Some are for technical reasons and some not. But if the latest equiment did the exact same thing as the 2 year old ones why would anyone buy - just to brag they have the latest?

"If" being the biggest point. You guys go into complete support blackout within months of release. Don't whinge that a 3+ year old phone is getting updated but certain features that would turn it into a lagfest are kept out. Find me one Android phone that has been updated for over three years. Go. Do it. I'll be waiting right here.

That's a sad fantasy world you live in, here in reality world...

Aside from the growing list of features restricted only to newer phones, the iPhone 3GS actually gets most of the new OS's tweaks and refinements—iOS 4 set expectations low on the iPhone 3G by excluding some of that version's best improvements, so it's nice to see the older handset so well-supported in this case. With the exception of the Siri and Maps sections, just about everything mentioned in our main iOS 6 review applies to the 3GS, including Passbook support, Facebook integration, shared Photo Streams, revamped sharing menus, Do Not Disturb, iCloud Tabs in Safari, the new Find My iPhone tweaks, the Camera app's exposure lock, the new Mail features, and the new call features, among others.
