Hmm.. is there a way to get this enabled? Mine just has the old banner that says "Touch to return to Maps app". Did you do a fresh install or upgrade?
Upgrade. People doing restores were having issues (how ironic is that!). I did an upgrade and everything works pretty well save not being able to search in Maps yet without using Siri (it crashes when typing the first letter) and the new Music UI having issues with white song text on the new white UI (which I do not like).

There doesn't seem to be any notification options for Maps yet. I just tried it while driving to work and that popped up as I was in another app (Instacast for those interested).

Reply with message for Phone calls is customizable:

It's not worth it to me at this point. Maybe for a future update. I can see the benefit if you do walking or public transport to still be able to see direction while you're using another app.
But besides these banners, everything else works great. No issues with Maps, Music, App Store, FaceTime Settings... all is smooth after I Updated from iOS 5. Happy Happy Happy :)

Also, I'm extremely impressed with turn by turn in portrait mode. It's really easy to read and understand what is going on. I love that all minor road names are ignored (Google Maps I'm looking at you), spilt street names (<- Red Dr. | Green Dr. ->) are called out if along the route (super helpful in cities with street names that change often), and that the UI is hidden unless you tap the screen (never used Google Navigator so I don't know if they ripped that off). The only crappy thing currently is in my area satellite view is awfully blurry. Gotta get better image tiles out to the smaller cities/towns.

Also, I know we knew Apple was using OpenStreet map data but they specifically mention Waze as well (the attributes aren't scrollable on Safari for Mac. It's mentioned right below Neighborhood data (c) Urban Mapping, 2012).

Interesting, but no surprise.

Interestingly, custom vibration patterns are actually already available in iOS 5; you just have to enable them as an Accessibility feature.
Yes and no... Kirky29 was talking about custom alert vibrations. Not custom call vibrations.

Ahhh I did not know this! Could be more useful for me I guess, I always have my iPhone on silent mode. :)

Don't give in so easily.

I second this question, sorry if i missed the answer somewhere.
I don't see a way. No way to create a group either that I can find.

You can hide your Facebook contacts though. However it'll show unified contacts if a contact is in your local contacts (address book). I was worried about that as half the people I keep in touch with on Facebook I didn't want in my main Contacts. It's actually nicely done. Any Facebook field has the Facebook logo and you can unify contacts (link two or more) at the bottom of all the fields.

I really wish iPhoto for iOS had an annotation function.

I may be wrong, but custom vibrations only worked when receiving a phone call right? Is it possible that it is now for all alerts (SMS, email, etc) in iOS 6? If you look at the "200 new features" slide during the keynote, "Custom Vibrations for Alerts" is listed as one of the new features, which means it was possibly improved. Again, I never actually used custom vibrations before so I might be wrong.

See above^

Under usage in settings you can see how long you have been using the iPad and how long it have been on standby. Like om the iPhone.

Don't know if anyone else mentioned it here

Edit: uploaded using the safari om the iPad.

That colour changing status bar looks terrible IMO, either make it really blue or whatever the colour or keep it black/silver.

Anyone get a picture of the lock screen while playing music? I hate how close the previous/play/next buttons are since I end up mishitting one and I'm hoping they've spaced them out.

Trust me, I wished they spaced them out as well or made play have a larger touch sweet spot. I always hit forward by accident.

Update on Navigation:

It's slick as hell.
* Road names that you're turning onto are in blue, street names you can turn onto are in green.
* The road you are on is under your position in blue.
* Whenever you approach a turn it goes from 3D view to overhead view to give you a clear view of the turn then back again after the turn is completed.
* Direction road signs fly up and away and another flies in from underneath to take it's place when completing a step.
* You can't have hybrid (satellite + road names) or satellite map tiles while navigating (turn by turn).
* Siri continues to give directions while on the phone even if using a headset (she transfers to the headset). Obviously she gives directions if music/podcasts/audio is playing (volume is lowered slightly and she is REALLY loud)
* Being able to say, "take me home" and have her start to navigate to your home address is beautiful. You really don't need to touch it at all.

That turn-by-turn IS really slick! Does it work in landscape mode too? That's how I always use my iPhone as a GPS.

I've used TomTom, Garmin, a bunch of others, all but Google Navigator and this is easily the simplest and most elegant turn by turn out there. If Garmin isn't scared they ought to be. The only reason to use any other navigator is for offline navigation. If Apple adds that (and I really hope they do ... although it may cache the route), those companies are boned.

Absolutely. Just as purdy.

I'd give you a screenshot but I'm at home and I'd prefer not to give out my home address.

I know this is not the place for requests, but I couldn't find where to ask and I don't want to open a new thread just for this.

I live in Lebanon, and I rely a lot on Google Maps for the street names and small details... But from the few previews I've seen of Apple Maps, they seem to be very minimalistic and limited on the naming.

Can someone please search for Lebanon and show me a screenshot? And maybe try my hometown, "Zgharta, Lebanon" and the capital "Beirut, Lebanon".

Thanks a lot!

There's nothing wrong with that!

Just kidding :D Thanks for your speedy response. May I also ask if it's somewhat battery efficient? I realize that GPS Navigation will kill an iPhone's battery regardless of what app you're using, but I know for a fact that my battery is nice and strong, but running Waze literally takes off 1-2% per minute if I don't have it connected to power.

I read somewhere that it turns the screen on and off when the phone is locked, depending on if you have a turn coming up or not. Or something like that, I can't remember.

Thanks again!

Sounds like they really thought about how this is going to be used in real life. I'm assuming voice prompts still get read even when the iPhone is "sleeping". What about if navigation is running in the background? Does it still get the navigation route on the lock screen if say, I'm running Spotify. And then does it interrupt Spotify to notify me of an upcoming turn? If so, it could practically be a replacement GPS.

Yeah voice prompts still gets read out loud when the display is off. Also, I was on the phone through my car on Bluetooth and the next direction was read out lout too. I'm sure when listening to music it would do the same. This appears to be a good replacement for standalone navigation units. But the maps do load slow and could be due to it being beta

I thought they load pretty fast for HSPA+ (at&t "4G").

I'm about to go out again and test if it caches the route.

How much is the data usage while navigate with turn by turn? Important for folks with limited data plans.

Pic 1 is when searching for "Zgharta, Lebanon", doesn't return anything with Zgharta on it, just a map over Lebanon as far as I can see?
The 2nd and 3rd pics are when searching for "Beirut, Lebanon". Shows quite a few street names, however I can't read them :)
