I did it twice without restoring first and got errors both time. So have loads of other people. Another person in this thread just confirmed that... The only person embarrassing themselves here is you. If you check all the tech websites they all say it is a crucial step in the process.

I'll just say this once. You do not need to restore before before you update to the beta. The only errors I got happened because I forgot to update iTunes before I did it. Just because you got errors does not mean everyone did. Are you slow?

Just to clarify guys...

I have a device which does NOT have its UDID registered.
I UPDATED to beta 1 using iTunes and the ipsw file.
I did NOT restore.
I did not go into DFU mode.
I updated to beta 2 OTA no problem

You do know we are discussing the way to get beta without having a developers account?

Yes and personally I think Apple should be giving me $99 to test buggy Software. Its a Joke!

Same here :D

Getting an error when updating is hit or miss (without a dev account). Some people got it, and some people didn't.

The $99 isn't JUST for the betas, it's for all the tools you need to develop and submit apps.

Thank you! I know wtf I'm talking about when I say you DO NOT have to restore before you update to the beta.
So who's the one that does not know nicolascrompton? lol You made like 25 posts on this thread and brought nothing to the table. I swear noobs should have to take a test before they can post here...lol

This I know but you gotta admit if it was free to test beta software it would be so much better for everyone involved. No profiteering from selling UDID slots and all that???

Sure, but them Apple can be held responsible if something happens to your device, etc. When you purchase the account, you're saying you're responsible for whatever happens.

You seem to be a little retarded or something...lol. I'm not a dev. I installed the beta without a restore like many others. Why are you arguing with me because I and others have proved you do not need to restore before doing this? Leave me alone..my point has been proven

How many times do I have to say this: it's HIT or MISS. Restoring GUARANTEES you don't get the error. If you update, you MAY or MAY NOT get the error.

I am still on ios 6 beta 2 on the iphone 4s but ios 6 on iPad 3 was painfull so downgraded to ios 5.1.1. Siri in Uk was not great at all. If 6 beta 3 is over the air I don't see any issues if your on beta 2

You are mistaken, you can't just simply 'update' lol. I don't think Apple are that stupid. However it is almost as simple as that. You have to first restore your phone using shift and selecting it yourself, going through the setup process (setting it up as a brand new phone) and then updating.

Look at what you said."you can't just simply update" You ****ing noob Dumbass! I was saying you don't have to restore, you were swearing up and down you have to. If it didn't work as an update for you doesn't mean it won't for others you prick. Why restore if not necessary?
I think you are the one that can't read or you just can't remember what you say. Either way I don't think you're too sharp

And after I had researched it I then corrected myself in the other six or so other posts after that...

Yea...after you researched. The problem is I knew what the hell I was talking about before and after you did your research. Do your research next time before you start insulting people kid, or else you just make yourself look dumb like you did.

Apple can make you accept similar Terms and Conditions for the beta download. Also they could introduce an official "downgrade to last stable iOS version" option in iTunes and then say "absolutely no support for beta software, downgrade first" (of course unless it's an obvious hardware malfunction).

I don't see Apple having a particular problem with average customers running beta software. Compared to all the folks out there doing whatever the hell they want with jailbroken phones (including making their iOS look like ****), a clean beta installation would rather improve Apple's image.

Then developers would rage after all these years of paying 99 dollars. It's just not something they'd do at this point.

Jailbreaking is something Apple condemns and something they didn't even create so you can't really compare this to betas.
