I agree with you for need to get more refinement into DND, but don't forget DND has option to filter who can still get to call you while its active (rather than just block everyone)

Even in its current state, that makes it a bit more useful than the silent switch, if there's certain folks you absolutely positively want to be aware of calls from no matter what time of night or day it is.

but thats in fact another thing that bugs me (although not as much as the missing weekday option), you can only say Favorites can call or a repeated caller... the thing here is, i have all people i talk to on a regular basis in my favorites list, but i dont want all of them being able to wake me at 4:00 in the morning.
you should be able to select specific contats who can call through the DND, not just your favorites...

App Store:

So when listing results, I get substantially fewer results/information that I care about on one screen. If I want to look through 100 apps, I have to swipe 100 times instead of 20. That means I'm going to tend to see FEWER apps, not more (or better ones).

I feel like i got a different app store than this? I remember the articles that were coming out that showed one big app tile and worked like you are talking that you have to swipe 100 times to get through 100 apps.

However i still have a kind of list view in mine. I hit charts at the bottom and then theres the Free/Paid/Top Grossing lists in a side scrolling format. then i can hit "See All>" and then it shows a list similar to what the app store used to be.

The boxes for apps are a bit bigger so it only shows 4 a page. if i get time i'll get a picture up, unless someone else can verify i'm not the only one that sees it this way.

Also OP i didn't realize that crappy part of DND till you mentioned it. now that you say it, it does seem like a simple thing they should have been able to put in. Kind of like being able to rearrange reminders in the reminders app, but it took from iOS5 to iOS6 for them to impliment that so who knows.

I agree, but if someone I talked to regularly enough to have in my favorites decides to drunk text or call me at 4am I'm having a conversation with them about the matter. I don't need a DND feature to stop that behavior.

you can if you're using groups

create a group using usual methods

e.g. log into icloud and edit contacts on there, or use address book on a mac etc

I called mine 'anytime callers'

add your chosen callers into there

go back into the DND notification settings and you can now choose that group as the option rather than favourites

This reminds me -- Apple should make a way to create groups from your iPhone. There are third-party apps that do this, but come on, it should be built in to the OS!

If you can turn on and off 3G seperately depends on the kind of modem your iPhone uses. Some of them can handle 2G and 3G independendly, some can't not.

I hate how laggy the AppStore is. It's ridiculous! The old one was pretty smooth and nice, now it's an Android-like disaster. Seriously Apple, why?

for me, this is the worst thing with iOS6 atm. even worse than maps, lol :D. because i sometimes doent have access to a charger for the whole day, and switching off 3g (not all data) really saves a lot of battery.

Say what? How can that be? There's a single modem chip - it's either doing LTE or it's doing 3G. It can't do both at the same time - hence the inability of Verizon IP5s to use data while a phone call is in progress - the phone call happens over CDMA rather than LTE, and the CDMA network can't do both.

Oh wait. You're using an HSPA/GSM 4/4S and backing it down to EDGE, aren't you? Never mind.

So got my iPhone 5 on Friday and love it so far. Maps isnt all that great, but I can get over that, it just needs some work, thats fine I can wait...

but here are some things that i just cant wrap my head around how stupid they are implemented...

turn off 3g: you simply cant... honestly, pardon my french, but how retarded is that? why, for the love of god, would they take away the option to switch off 3g? you can turn off LTE, but not 3g...

cheers!

It seems that battery life is so good now, why go to EDGE? And if you turn off 3G, then you have no data + voice (at least on ATT's system). That may confuse the uneducated user.

I can understand turning off LTE though. It is not that pervasive yet in all areas. Even less so in Europe and UK.

The biggest issue I have the iOS6 is the stupid Pocasts app.

Did we really need another app for this? Why couldn't podcasts just remain inside the iPod and Videos apps?

ive set the DND feature to a late hour like 1AM. people are generally considerate and/or will sleep early themselves and wont call late on weekdays anyway.

over the weekend i generally have everything planned by 1AM and this feature prevents my phone from ringing at very late hours which would make my BF suspicious of who is calling at that time.

Brightness Control:

Now even harder to change brightness. Can't do it right from system prefs or a dock slider, you've got to drill down to get to it. And since auto-brightness is still awful, I'm still changing brightness several times a day depending on usage situation.

it's right where it's always been.
iphone never had it in the dock (I agree, it does need to be there, more so than volume does)

and in the main page of settings there is "Brightness and wallpaper" just off the bottom of the screen on my 4, but should be visible without scrolling on the 5.
that page has the slider and auto-brightness switch the same as it was in iOS5.
the only change (I think) is that the wallpaper settings have been added to the page.

Absolutely right, we have volume buttons, DUH! What do we need a volume slider for?

I'd like to fire some of the UI guys, truly horrid decisions. Like the phone dialer, now it's a super bright white that looks like it belongs in a windows mobile phone from 2002, my eyes can barely look at it in the dark. Another bad UI decision was the Find my iphone app, now it letterboxes the map into a much smaller space for some odd reason, big huge buttons take up the bottom space and they actually letterboxed it, thankfully they are not using the horrid TomTom maps but continue to use the Google maps for now for this app.

I just don't understand Apple's way of thinking. There are so many DUH things they could add to the phone, but instead they spend their dev time trying to make calendar look like a real calendar and such oddities.

The damn black status bar in Safari. It stinks. It draws my eyes way too much, and makes my screen feel smaller than it is.

The app store updates list now included EVERYTHING you have ever downloaded, with no way to hide them, and even shows apps that don't need updating. Thus rendering the whole damn thing unusable. Completely boneheaded.

You must have hit "Purchased" at the top by mistake. Hit the:

<Updates|

arrow at the top left to go back to the actual updates page.
