Did you restore from backup or restore as new?
Anyone want any more information about the Beta?
Did they open the API for the Notification Center widgets?
OP: very nice review - thank you. Also thank you to the others posting in this thread. This type of information is why I read MR.![]()
I haven't really seen anyone post this anywhere and I kind of assume that Apple hasn't done this yet, but does Siri read texts over Bluetooth/headphones yet?
That is one thing I miss from my Windows Phone, and Aloud (jailbreak tweak) does this, but I'd like it in the stock OS...
great review!
When connected to apple earphones, siri reads texts, as well as confirms what it thought you said before sending a dictated text.
I think I need to setup as a new phone because my results are WAY different then what you reviewed.
*Battery drain is worse (prob because of the issue below)
*Brightness will Auto dim all the way or go all the way bright (Auto Brightness is NOT on) I'm always having to change it back to where I set it.
*iMessage is brutal. Crashes out on me, messages disappear and reappear
*Random reboots (not a full reboot but screen will go blank, apple will show up and a second later it blinks back on)
*Opening the camera is sluggish
*Opening camera from lock screen is VERY slow and has crashed a few times
*Currently traveling in Washington DC so used maps to find local places. Places come up with no address just "Washington DC and zip" no street address but pin is in correct location. When "add to contact" is clicked it does not have street address either
*Spellcheck is borderline unusable. After one mistyped word it's been adding it to dictionary and keeps changing correct word to mistyped word.
And those are just the ones off the top of my head. There have been a lot of little annoyances. It's usable but quirky, buggy as hell and personally I wouldn't say "one of the most stable betas I've used" by far.
When I get back from traveling I will restore as new and see if that helps

I agree that iOS6-b1 is remarkably bug-free but as a tester of previous iOS betas I can tell you that as the betas progress they do not always get better.
In iOS5 particularly some betas that seemed as smooth as this one were followed by betas that rendered the phone darn near unusable.
Then the next one was better -- then the next was better still -- but only on one model device -- for a different device it was a whole different nightmare.
Even on this first beta, people with the iPhone 4 are not having the same experiences as the people with the iPhone 4S and the people with iPads are having different experiences entirely.
My point is that just because b1 on the 4S is close to problem-free that is in no way a guarantee that the next beta will also be.
Take it for what it's worth.
I use the SKY sports and tv streaming app quite a bit. When I installed the beta of 4.0 two years ago, the app didn't work until the full release of 4.0 came out. I would upgrade to 6 if only for the apparent siri improvements if I was sure SKY was working. If anyone has the app, can you check and also netflix
Sky Sports and Sky Go apps work perfectly on my iPad 3 with iOS 6
You NEED to restore as new. That sounds like an awful experience you don't need to have.
Restoring as new is always the best practice but for this beta I didn't.
I installed it as an update and I'm having none of the problems that poster described.
This is on my iPhone 4.
Maybe the 4S is different.
Did the iPad music app get any changes in the UI? It seemed bloated as is.
I haven't noticed any significant UI changes to the music app on the iPad running iOS 6. They might still tweak it between now and launch, though.
