if anyone is experiencing battery issues on a 4s after updating to ios 6, do the basics (close background apps off multitask springboard, reset network settings, hard reset in that order)

drain battery fully and then give it a good charge to 100% then drain again. this has resolved battery drain for me in the past (or perhaps nulled out the culprit process loop that caused the problem. Battery drain related to software problems is caused by the problem process continually paging in and out of a particular block or random memory address)

Upon any recurrence of battery drain within the first two cycles, check that commonly used apps are updated and that you have migrated all your apps/ data successfully) if not, repeat restore from backup / restore new if a repeat of hard reset doesn't resolve the issues.

I did this once or twice and have had exceptional standby and usage, with push, iCloud, location services on. Remember anything that uses the phone radio (talk/ browsing net/apps on 3G or apps that ping location services on startup) are going to consume battery life. . It's common on all connected devices with high res screens, even the ones u can change batteries in. Set brightness to auto at roughly medium (definitely under 2/3). If you have decent coverage an aren't network hopping you should only have to worry about hard resetting if and when u get slowdown for having too many apps open in the backround.

I'm happy with the GM build ony iPhone 4S. Do not disturb is a total sell for the upgrade. if they tweak that with a blacklist sometime in ios 6 then it would be perfect for what I need.

Ios 6 is amazing on my 4s battery life is noticeably better , Siri works faster. Safari loads pages much quicker it's a good upgrade overall cant imagine going back to iOS 5

Will 100% of iOS 6's features be available on the 4S?

If not, what will be absent?

The only one I'm aware of it the ability to snap photos while shooting a video. From what I've read, every other feature seems to be supported by the 4S.

Nothing, not in terms of "tentpole" features anyway.

FaceTime over Cellular - check.
Maps with Flyover - check.
Maps with Turn by Turn - check.
Enhanced Siri - check.
Panoramic camera - check.

let's hope apple has a complete revamp planned for version 7 next year, I am getting bored with the current design of iOS.

If you are really bored, you oughta try jailbreaking. It's fun to add some widgets/themes, turns iOS into more than just a glorified app launcher.

I upgraded and its faster than iOS 5. Everything feels snappy except the camera app which feels the same.

I put iOS 6 on my 4S yesterday.

Maybe it's just me imagining it but iOS 6 does feel faster than iOS 5.1.1. It's not a HUGE speed boost, it just feels slightly faster and smoother. Everything seems to be more stable and responsive.

Battery life? too early to tell for sure how it compares to iOS 5. I'm at 52% right now and I have:

Usage: 2 hours, 3 minutes
Standby: 17 hours, 44 minutes.

Double that and when I get to 4% battery I should be at:

Usage: 4 hours, 6 minutes
Standby: 1 day, 11 hours

I can usually get something like ~3.5 hours usage and ~2.5 days standby. I think it will either be about the same or a bit less than what I got on iOS 5.1.1

I will be testing it out over the next few days before iOS 6 is officially released. I may pop back in here to report findings.

thanks.

But gee, that's so stupid.

iOS 6 upgrade to iOS 5 sounds like Mountain Lion to Lion upgrade. It's a system wide speed boost, which is great!

I thought exactly that myself when I upgraded! It feels like iOS 5 but just more refined, polished, smoother and dare I say? snappier :D I'm loving it.

So far everything seems snappier. Siri is even responding better through Sprint's abysmal 3G network. The music app takes a beat to load but it is just an extra 2 seconds at most.

However, iTunes match is still downloading clean versions of songs instead of explicit versions so there's that.

Messages integration with 10.8 has been phenomenal so far.

edit actually the clean version problem is way worse since there's no way to actually delete the individual songs so either everything needs to be redownloaded again or you just need to live with hearing awkward pauses in the middle of songs.

did u know that empty or minimal photos and videos in camera roll can make the camera app works faster?

i take a weekly routine to clean up images in my camera roll that i don't need and i have installed an app called Best Album - Picassa web albums from google in the App Store so i can upload pics to them, organize them by albums, so i dont need to keep images in my camera roll.

when u restored your iPhone as new, or let's say you buy the new iPhone or even u decide to switch to android, just install picas app i stated above and no need to sync, boom! every images on your new phone in instant.

here is the link http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/best-album-picasa-web-albums/id395234829?mt=8

btw i have no association with this app developer.

I also use iTunes Match. All the songs I have with swearing have been uploaded to iCloud so I'm not getting the clean iTunes version. This was done automatically. I joined in July, if that helps any.

I've found that iOS6 GM is much, much faster than 5.1.1 on my 4S.
And significantly faster than the iOS6 betas.

I've been using iOS 6 for 3-4 days. I did a restore from backup because I wanted to keep my stuff, but I've noticed that the battery drains faster which is a turn off... Hoping to do a clean install on my iphone 5...

Yeah, mine seems to be a total crapshoot in what comes down. Before I had to delete once or twice and then the explicit version would come down, but now I'm only getting the clean versions. It appears to be a pretty widespread problem Apple is aware of. I'm amazed this isn't as simple as a switch in iCloud.
