I echo the concerns others have posted regarding FB privacy (or lack thereof) and system wide integration. So, what happens when there is a "bug" that ends up saving/transmitting everything I've been typing, including confidential information...maybe even keychain passwords? I can see that happening...especially the keychain thing since it will undoubtedly save your FB password. I have a FB account, but I know full well how lacking their security is. Accessing it from my iOS device is acceptable to me, but having system wide integration on my Mac Pro that I use for design work? Eh....that makes me uncomfortable.

If it scares you, don't use it. I set up a Facebook account back when it came out. I don't use it for anything, but now I can use it for logging into things like Spotify.

I am out of FB and would like my OS to do the same.

Is OSX all intregrated with FB too? Maybe I won't buy an iMac next year..

On the one hand, this seems a good opportunity for Apple to capitalize on social media, hopefully with similar benefits to what Google's enjoy with G+.

But on the other hand, G+ is owned by the same company that makes Android, allowing each to further the goals of the other, while this initiative makes Apple beholden to Zuckerberg for the social media component, not a place I'd like to be.

Interesting read - Guy Kawasaki on why G+ is better than FB:

Got to say, even if you look through my tweets and my "profile", you won't have anywhere near the information that one would if they look at a Facebook account.

Depends on how much info you volunteer. Nobody made you upload pics onto Twitter. Nobody made you upload pics onto FB. For both social networks, the only things you're required to give them are your email, name, sex, and age, and you can lie about all of them.

I think all of us have the right to remain anonymous on the internet, Facebook included. There is nothing wrong with people who want privacy, and if you don't like privacy then good for you.

Never said that. I said these privacy issues are not unique to FB and are due to the participatory nature of the internet in general. You don't want to be subject to them, don't participate in the internet. You want to limit your exposure, use discretion. But don't be saying stuff like, I use Twitter and LinkedIn and Yelp and everything Google puts out but since I don't use evil Facebook I'm anonymous.

You really think you're anonymous on Twitter? When you signed up you gave them an email address. If you got friends, chances are one of them used Find Friends to let Twitter search their contacts, which puts your real name right next to your real email address. Twitter knows who you are and they sold that information to Datasift back in February along with everything you've tweeted for the past 2 years.

My current problem with Twitter integration is the requirement for me to have twitter installed to read tweets from folks in my contact list. It would be better if Apple went the same route MS and WebOS took with having those services integrated in with the stock OSes. Same for FaceBook integration. In the end we would still need the App to look at others statuses or photos, etc.

Smart Phones are already ideal spy devices

With Camera's front and back, microphones, GPS and other sensors, your smart phone could be used to spy on you just as easily as people are installing key loggers on your personal computer. Facebook integration into your iPhone (with the option to not use Facebook) is not making your phone any more or less private.

Facebookinism

Darn this facebookinism. I'll be darned if I'm forced to sign up for Facebook in order to use apps or even my phone to the full. Recently I downloaded an app and to my horror they required me to have Facebook. That company lost a customer and for that fact a lot of customers according to the reviews. I don't have any nor will I every download any social networking apps as I don't want that crap.

What does that have to do with the article? It's speculated to be no different than the Twitter integration, so 'having to sign up for FB to use apps' lies with the developer, not Apple.

Facebook integration wouldn't change this either way.

**

Every single page of this thread is the same: people freaking out over having to use Facebook, others responding that Twitter integration didn't mean they had to use Twitter, so it's likely a similar scenario, with the latter falling on deaf ears over and over again.

I believe in most cases the difference in opinion regarding one's privacy is a product of a generation gap, and based on my observation, it's a very narrow gap. I don't have anything to hide and am completely comfortable with sharing some life moments with an exclusive group of friends and family.

I am also not bothered by businesses that are able to leverage the details I offer to better target information about products in which I'm likely to have interest.

I do sense some envy in this forum, though - I know, I wish I had thought of it first, too.

Why??

Facebook is not to be trusted, and Apple cozying up to them in this way (in ANY way) is just an abysmal short-sighted decision.

I'm already sick to death of facebook invasions on everything electronic. Here I thought Apple was above it, but sadly - NO. Bring on the FB bloatware and privacy invasion!!!!

I'm completely disgusted by this move by Apple.

just because apple is integrating it into the OS, doesn't mean you have to use it.

I'm sure it will be like twitter, where unless you have the app on your phone.
it won't work.

i use twitter, and aren't really happy with how its been pushed out on the phone.
still need to log in often to tweet stuff from websites, and use the twitter app to post tweets, would be nice to be able to do it without opening the app each time

I think you're right - Apple -was- above it.

well...I already have the Facebook app. SO why would i want it anymore integrated than that? I can literally do anything i want on that app, no need to **** up the iPhone by integrating some social network. Just use the ***** app!!!!

Most websites nowadays have Share buttons located on them to share to sites like Twitter and Facebook. Do you paranoid people not visit those sites because they have "cozied up to Facebook"?????? I swear you people are driving me nuts! All this is going to be is an OPTION for you to share things to your Facebook IF YOU WANT TO.

I installed the Facebook Disconnect plugin on my Firefox, which blocks Facebook's tracking through use of those elements, whether you're logged in or not. They don't appear for me anymore. They also make separate plugins for Twitter and Google.

So according to a recent post my 9to5Mac, Facebook integration will be more than Twitter. Apparently we'll see the "Like" button all over the Stores (Books, Apps and iTunes).

I honestly have no problem if Facebook and Twitter integration were the same, but apparently it doesn't look like it. I'll have a problem with this if i see Facebook really baked into iOS even when I didn't activate integration. That won't be a good move, Apple.

I hope not... That would ruin the iOS for me. It would be even worse if you see the "Like" button everywhere when you have the facebook part disabled.
