I thinks it's kind of pointless to change the shift key. There is a lot other more important things to worry about.

I agree 100%. Opening up the iPad five, and thinking to myself G wouldn't this be good better with a better looking keyboard? Seriously Apple? How about posting changes related to the performance in the stuttering animations on this new iPad five at the Corvette engine inside?

I wish there was a way to turn off overflow when you turn your iPhone to landscape mode. Coverflow is totally useless normally, and on the iPhone it's worse than useless - it gets in the way and makes iTunes impossible to use.

Dump coverflow!

Yeah, Apple! Leave that security flaw alone! Make sure you don't patch it, so people continue to have the ability to inject unauthorized third party code that can take over your entire phone.

Don't you have to connect your phone via USB and then opt to trust the connected computer?

I was hoping that they'd fix these bugs as late as 7.1.1. Not because my phone is JB, but because it pains me to think that people will now be stuck on a crashy 7.0.4 just because it's JB. o_O

I respectfully disagree with you, vehemently. It was a nightmare to figure out whether caps was on or off. Drove me crazy on a daily basis when typing caps out. This is certainly an improvement.

How about both? Why do you think both can't happen? I for one, am SO glad of the shift-key changes. It's without any doubt my biggest issue with the iOS 7 keyboard.

Well, the reality is someone will probably find some other vulnerability and work their way in, eventually.

But some people don't seem to understand how jailbreaks work. They are essentially trojans that people want to be able to run.

What is Apple's reason for not showing lower case letters in the keyboard, when you hit shift, change the actual key to show a capital?

It's silly to see capital letters and have them be coming out as lower case. Granted it's like a real keyboard, but this is an on-screen keyboard that can (and should) be dynamic.

I believe it's a patent issue.

Nobody is "stuck on a crashy 7.0.4". People way CHOOSE to stay on it based on their values. Ie. some people feel that the benefit of running some potentially harmful third party code trumps the security, ease of use, and bug fixes available in the latest release. To each his own.

The shift key still looks horrible. The disabled one and the enabled one should be flip flopped and the caps lock one should have a lock symbol and no arrow at all.

I still don't understand why the keyboard doesn't have all the letters lowercase when shift is off and switch them to capitals when on. This is how android handles it and it makes it very obvious when the keyboard will enter capital letters and lowercase letters.

iOS 7 is the pinnacle of poor taste.

it makes my eyes bleed and my stomach twitch in disgust.

no matter what tweaks they introduce its just a repulsive pixel vomit.

strange...because I think iOS7 is beautiful and fresh, I much prefer it over iOS6 any day. That is the only reason that brought me back to the iPad Air.

I just wish Apple could have a keyboard as nice as Androids... I prefer how it handles CAPS so much better and I tend to make a lot less spelling errors than on iOS.

I am also in the camp that would love to be able to pick my own preferred web browser, email client although I have ZERO complaints about Safari so I would probably just leave it at that but there was a time I also dumped Safari in favor of Chrome on my iDevices.

God I wish they would remove the period placement on the Safari keyboard. To this day I hit it instead of space after almost every word.

I couldn't agree more!

I did a whole writeup on it here:

http://darrenwilson.com/writing/context-sensitive-keyboards-or-lack-thereof/

Why Apple is so stuck on this all-caps keyboard, i have no idea. Context-sensitive keys would make so much more sense.

Possibly simply because they did it that way from the beginning.

There had better be more to these recent betas and just keyboard UI fixes. I can't believe this is what we have been waiting for all this time, design tweaks.
They can and do have other people working on other things in the updates too, just some developers who might be entry level if not even interns get to work on some lower hanging fruit type of things like the keyboard changes.

It looks much nicer with all-caps, IMO.

It may, but it's a triumph of aesthetics over usability. All the complaints about the shift key would be completely solved by going to a context-sensitive keyboard layout.

I wonder how much effort they've wasted on all the shift key revisions, when simply showing lower-case letters when you're typing in lower-case would be SO much simpler and more logical.

1) Resolving usability issues is a part of 'fixing' iOS 7.
2) Multiple people are working on multiple issues at the same time. Resolving usability issues with the keyboard is one small part of what Apple is doing.

My main annoyance is that they need to fix the mess that is iTunes Match. If I'm paying extra for a service I expect it to work as advertised.
