Why Apple is so stuck on this all-caps keyboard, i have no idea. Context-sensitive keys would make so much more sense.

Really you can't think of a reason? Look down at your keyboard. That's why. Do the keys on your keyboard all-cap themselves when you press shift?

Our opinion is different, we would've never thought of the things that Apple thinks of. We're pro-sumer forum goers that have design backgrounds.

The regular person does not. Familiarity is the reason why I can give my grandpa an iPad, and he'll know how to facetime me, whereas giving him a playbook, and he'll give it right back to me.

That shift key is just so unbearable. Disabled status should not be shown as a highlighted state. Whoever is doing their UI work needs to be fired, and Jony needs to take some interface design courses if he thinks these things are fine.

Physical keys do not change because they're physical keys. On a virtual keyboard, the keys can be anything, and if changing the key caps depending on the context (like when you press the number key) aids usability, then there's absolutely no reason not to do it. Sticking rigidly to the paradigm of the physical world is exactly what Apple is trying to move away from, yet the keyboard is stuck in skeumorphism.

The shift key still looks horrible. The disabled one and the enabled one should be flip flopped and the caps lock one should have a lock symbol and no arrow at all.

I still don't understand why the keyboard doesn't have all the letters lowercase when shift is off and switch them to capitals when on. This is how android handles it and it makes it very obvious when the keyboard will enter capital letters and lowercase letters.

Do people actually exist that can't tell when the shift key is on? ROFL No wonder people need to be able to change every setting known to man. I must be a genius because since I've had the first generation of iPhone, I have NEVER wondered, hey is the shift key on?

It may, but it's a triumph of aesthetics over usability. All the complaints about the shift key would be completely solved by going to a context-sensitive keyboard layout.

I wonder how much effort they've wasted on all the shift key revisions, when simply showing lower-case letters when you're typing in lower-case would be SO much simpler and more logical.

I think this is one of the reasons I like Apple products. They give importance to even the most insignificant things. And yes, sometimes they prefer design over usability, which I quite frankly love about Apple.

The images someone posted above of the Android keyboards look awful.

Weather App

Anybody else having problems with the native weather app? It's not loading the hour by hour weather info except for the local weather. All of my added locations don't display the hour by hour.

Right? I saw those Android keyboard images and I wanted to write a Jony a thank you note.

Unbearable? Really? We are talking about when the shift arrow is black or when its white, right?

They've removed the annoying frosting from behind the Slide to Unlock on the lock screen from beta 4 :)

Edit: and is Settings a slightly different colour to before (edit: on iPad)? Plus, I think they've made the keyboard more transparent again, they keep changing it...

Edit 2: And I don't think anyone picked up that they changed the dock in Beta 1 to remove the transparency that used to be there? It's now just a solid block of blur.

Usability is part of design and it is more important. The lowercase is not necessary because it is supposed to be easy to tell from the key.

I don't think anything that you said is true, the Slide to Unlock is the same, and they didn't change blur or keyboard transparency. As far as I can see anyway.

My notes so far

iPhone 5s

- Animations are a split second faster
- Parallax is now called 'Perspective Zoom' in Wallpaper preview. Seems like theres more movement
- Fonts within Notification Center are larger. Much larger.
- Phone, Messages, and Facetime green icons look great. Much less neon looking, more contrast.
- Month/day split view in Calendar is back. Not very intuitive to get there, but its there.
- Weather animations seem to move faster (especially clouds and precipitation)
- Touch ID & Passcode have an icon in Settings
- Fonts generally seem more 'black'
- iTunes and App Stores load slow

Surprises:
- Maybe just me but my wifi download speeds are slower, but LTE faster
- My geekbench score improved 25 points both single core and multi core from 7.0.4

What is Apple's reason for not showing lower case letters in the keyboard, when you hit shift, change the actual key to show a capital?

It's silly to see capital letters and have them be coming out as lower case. Granted it's like a real keyboard, but this is an on-screen keyboard that can (and should) be dynamic.

Says who? Android?

That seems like a silly thing to say. Of course Apple DON'T want you to be jailbreaking your iPhone. They want you to use it as they intended. Apple will never support jailbreaking and will probably do what they can for as long as they can to stop it/make it very hard.

Apple doesn't care if people add tweaks or extra settings to their phone; they only care about the security of the phone. It's just unfortunate that modifications and exploits go together.

God I wish they would remove the period placement on the Safari keyboard. To this day I hit it instead of space after almost every word.
They got to have that for the unified address/search bar now.

What about pasting into the telephone app? I used to be able to paste a number instead of having to write it down and tapping it out again. Crap.

This still works...just copy a number and then tap and hold in the white space just above the numbers in the dial pad.

You can still do it. Just tap and hold at the top of the dialer screen in the empty space where the number would go.

They don't "got to", as it could be moved to a more logical place. Especially when the text/sms keyboard doesn't have it. And really, home many times are people even putting in .com in their searches? And how hard is it to either shift the keyboard or do the double tap shortcut.

They definitely bumped up some general ANIMATION_DURATION constant.

Everything is noticeably faster /smoother on my 5s.

Caps

When will the keyboard show small letters or caps to show which are being used instead of a stupid highlighted caps key. It must be a patent issue.

I wish they'd just fix the pinch to homescreen animation when exiting Reminders or any app with a transparent background!! It's been months and it's still glitchy?!
