But no, u fire him and keep a bunch of loony toon characters on board to create this atrocious mess.

Let us not forget that it was Microsoft that introduced this flat-design that you now see EVERYWHERE. With the introduction of the flat colors and overly simple design in Windows 8, somehow numerous other designers actually decided to jump on this bandwagon.

I agree - I really dislike it. It lacks creativity and makes me feel like we are living in a non-stop world of Fisher Price. Sort of surprising that Apple, whose primary focus is on design, would go this route. I am really looking forward to when this "design" goes away.

no the essence of the look does not change but with all these extra settings (the buttons one seems like something i could have done in kid pix 20+ years ago) it shows they are responding to unhappy voices and its even more of a mess.

certainly not a refinement. they seem to have no idea where they are heading

Are you kidding? This isn't Windows 8 we're talking about here!

They shipped a complete UI change. Now it's been in the public for a few months, they are refining it.

It's not a mess.

It's pretty amazing Apple can do this. Ask Samsung/HTC/Sony/Google/Nokia consumers what they get in terms of updates and they'll all have tales of woe and reasons why they are never buying a phone again from that OEM. Apple is quite remarkable the way they support old hardware and give consumers the best possible experience. And that's why we love them.

I get updates quicker than you guys with my Nexus 5, so Google is not the problem. Also, Google has moved most if not all of it's apps/services into the Play Store and those get updated frequently.

As far as the rest of the crowd, I really don't care as I don't own another phone. I have seen an uptick in update speed from a few of the handset makers. But again, my Nexus 5 gets them before all others.

Edit : I forgot though, my wife's MotoX is on Android 4.4.2 which is the latest.. it's been on that for awhile now. So only some of the handset makers are terrible with updates, but even those are improving.

Updated my mom's iPhone 4 just now, it's indeed a bit faster. It's still quite slow, but at least it's usable now. Given that she still has 10 months on her contract: Thanks Apple!

I'm glad you're not CEO of Apple.

Tons of people love iOS 7's look... It's just a matter of opinion.

It's pretty ****ing sad that those people lack any sort of common sense. Is it just an opinion that Apple keeps adding tweaks in the accessibility menu to make it remotely usable and not cause eye cancer? And that even those look half assed? You can't tell me underlines on BUTTONS and badly drawn arrows under links are pretty. Is it an opinion that since this **** biscuit was released everyone changed their apps' design to something horrendous and boring? And that most of the redesigns could be used as a ****ing flashlight cuz they're white as ****? iOS 6 never had such issues. Apple's new slogan should be "THINK ALIKE: because our competitors know it better than us anyway." They were all about leading, now they're following Microshaft of all people, and the idea of a ****ing idiot who took a goddamn novel to explain why 'flat is in', and was fired after his idea flopped!? It boggles my mind to no end.

If Tim Cook was anything like Steve Jobs, he'd put DESIGNERS to work on this and not marketing people (as it was stated that they are responsible for the fugly icons), and put Sir Lifts-a-lot and Mr. Bad-Hair-day back to their original posts and keep them away from Photoshopping ever again. He would also tell the ****ing developers to FIX THE CRASHING and not take over half a year to do it. But he's all about ****ing numbers, not making things perfect. To top it off he boasts about how well iOS7 is received and keeps quiet about how they're forcing people to update and keeping them from downgrading. I honestly can't wait to see how much they will **** up OS X.

Rant over.

It's not unbearable to stay with iOS 6. And there are many improvements to iOS 7, even for the iPhone 4. Good to see Apple at least improved things for people still on a phone from 2010.

so an unfixed ssl fix and possibly 3 gig taken up by an update on an 8 gig phone is not unbearable?

yes its good that its improved for those that updated but according to this report its still slower than 6.1.3 which is an utter failure in my eyes

i never mentioned w8 nor would i use that disaster as a measuring stick.

these little cosmetic fixes (backtracking on the ios7 design) to me show they have no idea where they are heading and who to listen to. there are so many inconsistencies and illogical designs that its very un apple.

It's often the case when Apple removes support for a generation of hardware people cry about Apple's shocking level of support and that they're 'switching to Android'.

It's good to point out that the iPhone 4 was launched in 2010 and is still getting updates.

Some people also say they deliberately make their older phones slower, but this shows that they are looking at performance improvements.

Just think of what other phones were around in 2010, now totally unsupported and forgotten about. The iPhone 4 still looks good today.

I gave my old iPhone 4 to a friend and it's still going great. His partner got a Samsung Galaxy s2 a year after the iPhone 4 was released and that phone broke down in 2013.

Google officially only support their Nexus line for 18 months. Microsoft decided that Windows Phone 7 users wouldn't be able to upgrade to Windows Phone 8.

The 6.1.3 vs 7.x numbers are still atrocious.

Downside of forcing you to keep an upgrade.

Do you seriously expect running the new UIKit without dual core and a SGX 535 would be as fast now as it was back in 2010? If so, then I am going to have to politely ask you stop buying technology from any brand.

Apple Inc is a fundamentally different company from Apple Computer Inc.
Historically all new OS were backward compatible to ans astonishing degree, one that always put windows to same. Indeed it was classic ploy of the latter to make the OS sort of compatible or not all at, in what seemed like a conclusion with hardware makers to force us to buy new stuff. Now very clearly Apple Inc does the same thing.

I "upgraded" the iOS on the most beautiful ipod touch ever (mark 3) from 3 to 4 and battery life went from 20 hrs to 4 hrs. Thus rendering the player essentially useless. It seems that this ploy continues. Steve is rolling....

I got my iPhone back!

Wow! What a night and day difference for my poor little iPhone 4! The day I updated to iOS 7 was a day that would live in infamy for me as 4 started operating like molasses on a cold December morning. Not just slow and unresponsive, but all manner of other problems.

Still early, but 7.1 is not only about 2-3x as fast but the other problems I experienced daily are now gone! Yahoooo!

.

Then I guess 99.9% of all software is an utter failure for you, since major upgrades usually work more slowly on outdated hardware.

if they are outdated then why is ios7 being automatically downloaded on those devices?

you cant have it both ways (speaking of apple not you).

Glad to still be humming along on iOS6 here. Works fast, reliably, and looks a hundred times more polished. Maybe iOS 8 won't be another step backward.

I am on the same boat. Still running iOS 6 on my iphone 5 and hate iOS 7 with a passion. I'm all for change but I'm not up a downgrade....

I am not looking forward until the day i get a new iphone and im forced to use iOS 7:(((( im going to hang onto my iphone 5 with iOS 6 for a while if i can.

Pathetic. You go from full textured iOS 6.1 to a slimmed down ugly arse flat kindergartner designed iOS 7 and yet your performance numbers are still quite crap.

Phone app from 0.67 to 1.83s. That's going from half a second to almost 2seconds. How is this anything to be proud of?!

The entire iOS 7 design team needs to be fired. You fire Scott forestall and that guy single handily created the best iPhone experience ever. But no, u fire him and keep a bunch of loony toon characters on board to create this atrocious mess.

I agree 100% with everything you said! I ABHOR iOS7!

I've never seen a bigger bunch of whiners!
You'd think there was a plague or some catastrophic event.
First world problems, people.

So, is this meme no longer forbidden?

I thought it was no longer acceptable to make jokes about this. I even had a post deleted because it had "run its course".
