Will the graphics team finally deliver the new retina buttons and other UI elements? Sick of the Visio/UML wireframes currently serving as a stand-in for the interface.

BREAKING NEWS

After taking note of extensive criticism on macrumors.com, Apple will be rolling back to the iOS 6-style UI in 7.1b3.

iOS 7.1 will retain the control centre and all other new features, but the appearance of icons and app navigational controls will change.

According to a source close to Apple's engineering team, the long delay in releasing 7.1 is to allow for additional testing and give developers time to update their apps to use traditional "glossy" UI elements rather than the "flat" style which has been erroneously used in iOS 7 up until now.

The anticipated release date is April 1st, 2014.

I wish this was true.

"Lengthy" .... is right, I know the exact reason.

Found allot of problems have you Apple ??

This may make a promise, of getting it right, the first time. But seems this is what happens when Apple wants to push iOS7 update within only a wee of the last one.... Not much can be fixed...

Either four months is too long, or just right.... Will see.

Uhhh.... that's a long time to wait.

Too long.

It would be interesting to know why Apple seems to have a penchant for releasing half baked buggy software as of late. I used to admire and enjoy their fine work, but no longer. For my work I must have a reasonably stable and usable OS. Up through and including iOS 6 things were fine.

Then I upgraded to the shockingly poor iOS 7. Determined to allow the benefit of the doubt, I stuck with Apple for months while enduring crashes and problems I'd never experienced since the original iPhone.

Luckily Google came to the rescue, along with Samsung. I'm now using a very reliable fast and fun Galaxy Note 3, as well as a fabulous Nexus 5 to add some variety just for fun. Eighteen months ago I would have never guessed Apple would have influenced my switch to Android.

That simply proves that one never knows when a world class company like Apple will suddenly stop, rest on their laurels, advertise and influence people to keep buying no matter what.

They've never let me down when it comes to MacBook & MacBook Pros, yet in the mobile space they seem to be fading away if one is paying attention. Luckily for Apple their logo is enough to influence millions to buy the "cool phone".

I'm surprised about people's remaining problems with iOS 7.0. I have indeed noted the occasional quirk, but since upgrading on launch day, I've experienced two reboots and two quirks that didn't require a reboot, and I use my phone on average ~3 hours per day. This is so confusing, that it is so bad that it's pushing some to different products. I have none of this "beta tester" experience with the launched version.

I've had three occasions of rapid battery loss, and then just all kinds of small quirks (bugs) within stock apps. Outside of that, there are a number of inconsistent/otherwise problematic UI choices that I would love to see taken care of in 7.1 or 8.

I hope they'll fix the Music App!

Well, I've grown to like iOS7 a lot! Still hate some icons though...

However - I cannot believe Apple ruined my music experience like this. And especially Apple - they've always presented themselves as music lovers.

Here's part of my letter to Apple:

I open Music App. I go to Artists tab. On my iPhone 4 I used to see I think 8 artists at the time. Now there is totally useless artwork on the left which is probably downloaded form the net - sometimes CD art, sometimes generic pretty artist picture. And it only lets me see 3,5 artist now instead of 8. Then I go for example to my favorite artist - The Cure. They’ve got 31 albums. So I click on the artist and what do I see? Instead of alphabetical album list I get bunch of album art which isn’t important at all at this moment in time (I will see it when I click on the album and then again with every song from that album so why should I look at it now?). And again - intead of 8 albums I get to see 3,5. But what is much much worse - they’re not sorted at all! Nor alphabetically neither chronologically. And what’s really bad - they’re all showing all the songs within them. So when I want to go to the last album (which I don’t even know what it is due to that non-sorting problem) I have to scroll through 360 songs to get there! Does this make any sense? I’m afraid not. And then - as I scroll, I stop at one album and decide to play it. I click on the artwork hoping it would take me directly to the album but nothing happens. So I click on Shuffle icon next to album art and instead of shuffling that album it starts playing all the songs from that artist. Also - if I want to play just one particular album from the artist I should be able to do it from here, too. But it doesn’t work that way as it plays continually till it reaches the last album song, then it starts playing the next album. That’s Artist Tab. Ruined. :( Yeah - and it doesn’t even show me the alphabet on the right side.

Songs Tab - artwork everywhere. Why exactly? Does anybody search within this tab for a particular song using the tiny album artwork? I am trying to understand the reasons your teams have while redesigning this app. Again instead of 8 or 9 songs I see only 6. So I try to search for a particular song. But to my surprise it searches not among the songs only but it searches all the artists and albums, too! Useless. Difficult.

Anyway - I go to play a song. Here the app is almost perfect. I strongly believe you should put back those little icons for Shuffle and Repeat though. It’d be much cleaner and easier to use. Few taps only instead of a tap and then moving finger to the middle of the screen to choose my option. Shuffle Album, Shuffle All (from the artist), Repeat 1 song, album, off. That’s it. Easy. Clean. Fast.

Video App - on iOS6 I could see my list of my videos scrolling up and down with names and some info - artist, length etc. Now I get this strange grid with 3x3 tiny thumbnails without any names or information. I have to guess by the thumbnail what video I want to play. I don’t understand why. Apart from this it’s perfect.

BTW - it's not much better on my new 5S either...

Is somebody really happy with any of these two apps?

I wonder.

It's so weird because this year marks the first time I have been disappointed with Apple.

I hope they learn something from iOS7 and when iOS8 is released they release it in a working state and not make the customers ginea pigs in testing out the bugs...that's just not right. They have all year to get the bugs out why make the customers the testers. We just want it to work on day one.

The Music app was the foundation of Apple, it's what makes iTunes...yet they neglected it in iOS7. I just don't understand it.

This is the reason I won't upgrade to iOS7. I also provided feedback on their website. I have a funny feeling they are not listening and any changes will only come in the next iOS8. It's really sad....the team that designed did not think users would have more than 1 album per artist. How this got by the teams managers is beyond me.

What I also find funny is when you go to the Apple store to test the ipads and phones...open the music app...you will never find more than 2 albums per artist. This is not the real world. I can have over 30 albums by 1 artist alone. This works perfectly on iOS6...why did they mess it up on iOS7???

I find it just too funny how people feel the need to emphasize their move to Android at each and every opportunity.

There are many who are happy with whatever, sadly. I have the same sentiments about the Music app. Can only see 3-5 artists at one time, and those stock pics make no logical sense... the photos are small, and usually artistic.. they don't help at all indicate who the artist is, because it's tiny and a photo you've never seen before. The white border to the album art is harsh as well. It is actually difficult sometimes to find a particular song.

I sure hope it comes sooner. It's a little funny how 7.0.4 feels like a beta, yet they went out of their way to prevent people from using the betas (2 and up) without developers account.

If they could just fix the touch delays after each animation, the bugs and app and page reloads (ie. safari), and give us some options for the Music app so it functions as before, that'd help a lot.

So far, Beta 2 doesn't fix the bug where my iPhone 5 dies anywhere between 10% and 40% of battery life, and the Apple Store said my battery was fine and I shouldn't worry...........

A lot of people on the internet are plagued with this problem in iOS 7 and up.

You need a new battery. My iPhone 5 developed this issue, too. Replaced battery at Apple Store = no more issue.

MARCH? Really?! I can't attach photos to texts from the Photos app, I can't set custom text tones, my iPhone restarts randomly, among other glaring functionality issues... And I have to deal with this buggy, sloppy software for 3 more months?! Awesome.

Why can't you attach photos to text or set custom tones? Are those common issues in 7.0.x?

Wow. Another 3 months with a buggy user experience? 2 iPhone 5S' and an iPad Air here. All 3 frequently crash. Going to lose a lot of confidence in Apple if they don't fix this before then. We've already been dealing with the crashes for 2 months, and earlier versions had iMessage problems. In the last 6 months Apple has had a ton of SW issues. 10.8.5 rollout, Apple TV update, iOS 7 (iMessages, crashes), bought a new Retina 13" MBP and the keyboard would randomly stop working, Mail app is still kinda sucky and slow on Mavericks...Haven't had a good UI with Apple products lately. This will make almost HALF of the iPhone 5S' year at the top a crash prone mess.

I also hope that the 7.1 release fixes many of the bugs in iOS 7. I have had some problems with screen roations as well as with pinch-to-zoom in several apps. I expect that these are also bugs, and will be fixed in the 7.1 update. Overall I think iOS 7 is heading in a good direction, though, I especially love the Touch ID sensor, it works very, very well, and I am excited to see how Apple is going to use it in the future. I hope that Apple brings Touch ID to their other devices, including their Mac line of computers, it would be fantastic to be able to use fingerprints instead of passwords to log into computers and onto networks. The future is here!!

Long time to wait but people are saying the current 7.1 beta doesn't fix the memory issues that crash Safari with large web pages, switching tabs or when commenting on a long Disqus thread.

Maybe they will fix the serious memory management bugs by then.

They blooming better address the crashes in Safari and low memory ....

It's driving myself and friends crazy!!!

Automobile manufacturers are very annoying.

Part of the problem is that companies like Mercedes and Audi continue to use ways of addressing iOS, ways which have worked in the past even though Apple has said that this is not the way that they want iOS used.

There's no guarantee that what is essentially an "exploit" is going to work in the future.

So something that worked with an iOS 6.** device when they did their final systems testing in March of 2013 suddenly does not work when their vehicles are in the showrooms in December 2013 trying to work with iOS 7.** devices.

It's not really Apple's fault, but Apple are now faced with deciding whether to "fix" a "broken exploit" so that an automobile infotainment systems does what the end user of both the car and the iPhone expect them to do.

I'd hope they take their time and fix and polish some parts of the OS. Still mostly happy with it, but do get some annoying crashes and stuff at times and other weird errors. Taking their time would allow them to not feel rushed and actually work on fixing some of the more egregious issues. It's a mature OS, it needs polish more than features.

Biggest wishes in addition to bug fixes obviously:

2. Dark keyboard option back, better still a dark theme (black toolbars instead of white). Or perhaps a dark theme on black iPhones. Whatever; the white is too stark for my tastes and apps with dark themes look amazing.

I have to use reading glasses with iOS 7. Not so with 6.

Yes, iOS 7 is debilitating to vision. I do have "triple click" home set to reverse the screen--what a pain.

At least give us the option of a dark theme--not for taste but simply so it can be used.

I think , @pod2g knew this will happen. By Launching JB for 7.0.4 rather than waiting 7.1 is a smart move. You never know what Apple would find in next 2 months. They could have patched the exploit.
