They "thought" of it in 2011. Coincidentally, Holo Light was released in 2011.

Right off the bet this struck me as a clone of Winamp for Android, except with fancy skeumorphism. I really don't think this is all that bad, certainly eons more usable than this monstrosity - I need no usability study to tell me that almost nobody would figure how to use that bizarre interface without trial and error (and by the way, that Reminders screenshot has MORE unnecessary skeumorphism than the Podcasts screenshot).

And speaking of the absolute worst interfaces, nothing even comes close to this abomination. Nothing gutted me quite as hard as the double whammy of seeing that screenshot for the first time. The combination of iOS 7's hideous and remarkably inconsistent icons, the "me too" Holo live wallpaper imitation and the Helvetica Neue truly is a marvel of poor design and poorer taste.

Holo Light looks nothing like iOS 7 and on, other than the fact that they both use white and that they both have some blue. Buttons, switches, sliders, loaders, text, organization, and overall layout are completely different.

Can you provide an argument behind the iPad screenshot (outside of you don't like it), because I don't see anything that makes it a horrible interface.

In my personal oppionion, the iPad shines with the new design - a lot better than looking like an old leather book.
