Battery life in iOS 7 sucks for me, but it sucked in iOS 6, too. I'm not overly worried. :)

Oh, I dont care about app data...I dont have any games.

I have a recent iCloud backup...So can I erase all content and settings, then setup with my iCloud backup? Ill be sure to load my photos onto my laptop harddrive first.

Will this be about the same as a fresh install?

Yes.

My biggest complaint with Apple iOS devices is "just do a clean restore and do not reload your backup to fix your battery life problem."

WTF is the backup for? I'm experiencing terrible battery life as well and re-doing my entire phone to address this is a poor solution.

This isn't just with iOS 7 either, it's been this way with prior releases and needs to be addressed. Apple should be able to figure out to restore from backup without it raping the battery life of your device post restore.

If whatever issue is plaguing your phone also happens to be in your backup what good is that backup?

It's a new OS. You're playing around with it a lot, hence the lower battery life.

This happens with EVERY new release. Eventually people revert to their normal usage patterns and battery life is mysteriously good again.

Battery life seem fine to me. iPhone 5 6.1.4 upgraded with no wipe.

same here, but a bit less, 17% gone in two hours (without ANY use):(

OK come on. Something is obviously wrong with YOUR specific install, be it app, iOS installed funky, restored bad settings etc. But it's clear that 99.9% of the iOS 7 GM users are not experiencing 17% battery life loss in 2 hours without ANY use.

But then this makes backup completely useless. So Apple might as well drop backup feature.

Sure. Maybe Clockwork Mod, Amon Ra and Team win recovery should also drop their backup because Android nand backups get corrupted as well.

While we're at it let's also drop Carbonite as a backup system because they get corrupted as well.

Your argument is invalid.

Yes, this GM battery life is abysmal!

31% battery after 4 hours 10 minutes of use. This is pathetic!

iOS 6.1 did not drain it the way this iOS 7 is draining the battery. This is with SIRI switched off, no dynamic walloper, no parallax effects, but with background app refresh still active. Weather app is turned off, however. I still think there is something funky going on behind the scenes. This entire iOS 7.0 is just terrible mess.

I think after today's announcements, it's really sad but I think the next phone I'm going to be buying won't be an apple iPhone. Unless iPhone 6 makes a huge leap in innovation, the iPhone is just not appealing anymore.

I set my phone up as new and everything when installing the GM build.

My phone was at 90% when I went to bed and I woke up to a dead phone. That's NEVER happened to me before.

I turned off the "Refresh app in background" option under location services and had a better battery life. :)

iPhone 5, installed from scratch - HORRIBLE battery life, nothing is open. It went from 35% to 20% as I was installing apps, while connected to the iMac (via Lightning cable). It is connected to my iMac it is holding steady at 20% charge.

Un-fricken-believable, this is a GM?

I fail to believe that your iPhone was losing charge whilst plugged in and charging. Makes no sense.

I wasn't experiencing battery life problems before upgrading iOS both times I have experienced this. My device was working fine.

I completely understand. Today my phone's battery is lower than it usually is for this hour of the day at work. I reset network settings to see if it helps. If not, then definately the GM build has something goofy going on with it.

I agree with you... but you don't have to redo your address book. The address book is live synced from iCloud and does not load from the backup.

That being said, for me the issue would be my text messages. It would be very hard to lose all of the texts off my phone. I already backup the message database on a regular basis, but I like knowing that I have all of the text messages I've ever sent going back to mid-2009.

As crazy as it sounds, I have witnessed this before. My buddy plugged his 5 into my imac and it discharged from 5% to 1%. The 2 of us just sat there in disbelief.

in 1 hours use, GM dropped from 100% to 88%. not good at all!!!

I reverted to 6.1.4, updated to 7 GM and restored backup using itools.

That's not bad. An hour of use and 12% down? That's projected to be a little over 8 hours of usage....pretty typical for an iPhone 5.

That's assuming that's actually 1 hour of USE. If it's 1 hour of standby, that's not so good.

So far, iOS7 GM seems fine for me. I haven't used it much since I had it plugged in, with only 6 minutes usage and 53 minutes standby, but I'm still at 100%.

Very strange. I updated to iOS 7 on iPhone 5, no clean restore and have parallax and dynamic wallpapers on, but background app refresh off. Most other things are on, like location, fetch, etc. My battery life is fine. It uses anywhere from 10-15% an hour of usage, depending if I am talking on the phone, browsing forums, playing with settings, or whatever (not standby). I wonder why some are having such battery problems.

I think the culprit is the background app refresh should be OFF.

4 hours 10 minutes use is what I got on a full charge on iOS 6, I don't see the problem?

If you've restored and used an iCloud backup, you're sure it's not redownloading gigs of your stuff?

My iPhone is losing battery like a demon, but that's because it's sucking up all my purchased music, backed up photos, and so on.

my 4S's battery on GM has been better than all betas, but still not very good. was checking Carat to see which possible bug is eating the battery out, and I got this:

What can be done???

Then you have some hardware issues. Go set up genius bar appt. asap!

It's my second iPhone 5, I had it swapped in December. Both were a little more than 4h usage on a full charge, so I doubt it's hardware-related.

Also, we don't have any genius bars in Denmark, so all I'm left with is sending it to the shop I bought it from and wait a month or so before they'll repair/exchange it to a new one
