The guides on lifehackers are just missing an important bit of info.

You can only install (as non dev) by using the RESTORE function in itunes and selecting the ios7 firmware. It installs fine. You cannot use upgrade because you are not a dev!

Once installed it wants to sync with itunes, but you cannot! unless you find 11.1 beta2 (with some googling you will find it for mac, not available for pc!!)
If you sync only with iCloud, you will not need itunes and just go ahead!
You can also choose to config as new device.

This is false, I updated (not restore) and I am not a dev.

Can someone advise me.. Made a big mistake upgrading to ios7 before the release date! Never again

Not exactly following you but: The current iOS7 GM is the same as what will be released Wednesday so no need to upgrade. No need to downgrade to 6. Not sure how you were able to backup iOS7 with iTunes since it doesnt work yet but yes when iTunes 11.1 drops you should be able to backup/restore/sync and whatever else you need to do with iTunes. The upgrade should not be considered a mistake however technically you should not do it unless you are a developer or savy with the iOS interworkings.

curious, why are people restoring instead of just updating? Would solve the itunes 11.2 needed issues. Unless of course you want to start fresh?

For one thing, you could have a crap ton of buggy junk in your software at this point.

Plus I'm not sure you can just update to the GM. If you were on iOS 6 sure, but from a beta, not sure. I know there is no OTA update

i updated to ios7gm and when i went to restore through itools its asking me for a code??? i tried the passcode on my cell but that doesnt work. anyone else have this issue?

Do you use iCloud. Activation lock might be screwing with it

Whos needs itunes 11.1 to restore backup:)

Itunes 11.1b is available for mac but not for windows.....but you know its not needed for windows:p (not for restoring backup at-least)....use itools 2013 for restoring backup dear:)
So use Itunes 11.0 for iOS7 GM restore and use itools for backup restore....simple...:)

So, I restored and am running iOS7 - I don't use iCloud to backup, so I installed iTunes 11.1 beta 2.

What is happening now is that whenever I plug in my phone in order to restore from backup I get the message "iTunes was unable to load data class information from Synch Services. Reconnect or try again later".

No fixes I can find have helped, so I am stuck with a wiped phone running iOS 7, and I can't add my contacts, apps, anything back in.

Must be some other issue then. I managed to run and install my backup. Apps were left behind for some reason but was able to copy them across from iTunes. Can't get music on though so still a comparability issue with iOS 7 and iTools I suppose.

Not sure if using a non Apple USB cable also played an issue.

So, apparently the fix for the 'unable to load data class...' message is switching to 64 bit in the get info screen for itunes.

I am running 10.6.8 and the option to run on 64 bit isn't in get info - any one have any ideas of how to launch 64 bit itunes 11.1 on 10.6.8?

Yea. I swear people are not reading posts before asking questions. Most posts are basically the same question asked again many times after being answered in the same thread.

There should be a sticky with an install thread. Would prevent this.

So this update has totally screwed my phone up. I recovered the phone, re-installed older itunes, re-installed ios 6.1.3, and now I can't access any back-ups or sync the phone regardless of itunes version or the software on the phone.

Awsome emmanravalo this saved my day i could restore my backup to my ios7 GM, got an error about MBerrordomain but that was becouse i had setup it to sync to our Exchange server, after i removed that sync i could restore!

Hi, can you go further into this? I am having the same problem. Every time i try to restore my ios 7 beta 6 back up (using itools), i get an MBEdomain error.

I was able to load an older back up from ios 6.1.3. though.

Thanks.

You screwed your phone up, not the update. You being impatient and not gathering all the information first before doing the install did you in. You could have waited until Wednesday and everything would have been lovely.

People - just UPGRADE to iOS 7 on Windows. No restore needed, no recovery from backup, shift click "check for updates," select the IPSW, wait 10 minutes, enjoy iOS 7 with all your apps and data intact.

Thank you for this! It worked for me on Windows. Once again, THANK YOU!

So like some of the others, my itunes 11.1b2 isn't showing my backup. All I get is that data class error. I am wanting to update to GM from the latest beta build, but am worried about losing everything. If I do shift +update is it going to require that backup file, or will this just come across as a standard type of update doing it this way? I'm also on a Mac 10.6.8. Any help is much appreciated.

GingerL read back through the thread. This has been answered many times. You dont need beta iTunes to install. you can update and not restore and all your data will remain. IF you restore you WILL need iTunes 11.1 to restore a backup. If you upgrade you will not. Use iTunes 11.0.5 and get a good backup before you do anything. Back up to iCloud just for hell of it and extra precaution. Then you can upgrade and no backup needed OR restore and backup from iCloud. Either way you have a good backup. And the release iTunes works unlike the beta. Just not after you are on GM. Or you can wait another day or two and have both released iTunes 11.1 and iOS7 release both of which should work fine.

Thank you for your response. Unfortunately I have already updated iTunes to 11.1 a couple days ago. I have a previous iOS beta build, I have not updated to GM. I am not able to make hard backup since I updated to iTunes 11.1. I did make a backup before on iTunes 11.0.5 but it is now missing in iTunes 11.1. I did make an iCloud backup, just to be safe. I am thinking that I will just way a couple of days for the official release of iOS and iTunes. Will I be able to wait and update to the new iOS from a beta build? I'm sorry for asking the same questions that have been answered probably numerous times, but they seem to be answered differently depending on who you ask. I'm not trying to annoy anyone, just looking for some good advice. Thanks again.

Understood, yes there are several different replys/options :) If you have an iCloud backup you are in good shape. I would try to upgrade to GM and that should not need a backup. Worse case you can restore Wednesday using the iTunes 11.1 release version (i cant imagine it wont release by then) and it should offer to perform a backup prior to the restore. You also will have the option to restore from iCloud. Either way I believe you should be ok. You will have to use iTunes to install either GM or release since you are currently on a beta. The OTA will not be available.

Have Mac G4 PPC running OS X 10.5.8. - won't take a later operating system as it's pre-Intel.

Just updated iPhone software. Now iPhone won't sync with iTunes v. 10.6.3. "Update to a later version of iTunes" it says. When I try this, it reports that iTunes 10.6.3 is the latest version for my Mac.

Am I to assume that iTunes 11 has not been programmed to run on a G4 PPC running 10.5.8?

Does this mean I have to ditch my Mac? (If so, it's an off-putting way of selling computers.) :(
