This has happened twice to my iPhone 5 since updating to 7.0.3. Both at around 30-ish percent. One time I was on the phone with my wife and it just went dead with the spinning circle then cut off.

I remember thinking WTF because I didn't get any warnings about a low battery. I tried to turn it back on and it gave me the battery icon showing red telling me to if it in. I plugged it in and within about a minute it had rebooted and went to the lock screen with 35% and charging. Again, I said WTF and chalked it up as a fluke.

Then it happened again today. Was at about 32% or so and it cut off while playing music. I plugged it in and it rebooted.

You just described EXacTLY my situation. They keep saying the batt life is over but how can it happen all of a sudden after the update? Obviously software related.

I just wiped whole phone and set it up as new losing all my data and stuff and now I can run it down to about 6-11% without it shutting off. Still annoying though

Yeah, I never had any of these problems until 7.0.3 and I tested all the betas. In fact, I've never encountered this problem in 4 years if having iPhones.

My iPhone had always cut off at 1%, never 30%. Wondering if I should make an Genius Bar appointment. I bought AppleCare for this this phone, but if it's software related I don't know what good it will do me.

Yes all my previousniphones since 4 always cut out at 1%. Lucky for me I bought the launch phone so my warranty is dead. Won't do me any good calling tech support eithet

Mine does this too. Anywhere from 20% to 5%. Super annoying.

I was out near airport taking some pics and videos and maybe because it was cold, the phone just died at 32%. it happened again wednesday was taking a video and it was windy and cold out but like 8'c and it died again at 28%. However, i waited like 5-6 mins and powered it up and it was back to normal.

It has to be a software thing as it never has done this before.

My iPhone 5 cut off at 1% since day one, and it was the same with iOS 7 until two says ago , when while playing music it shut itself off at 23%.

It's not hardware related ....

My iPhone 4s shuts down when it gets under 20% - usually when taking a picture... Never happened on previous iOS6

me also the iphone 4s is terrible

I am running iOS 7 GM on my iPhone 5. Whenever my iPhone get to about 20% battery life, it automatically shuts itself off and if I press the home or sleep/wake button the icon comes up that I need to plug my phone into a charger. Now I have never had this problem on iOS 6.1.4, has this ever happened to anyone else?
there is no solution. i sent all day with no solution except spend $199.
it is time to leave apple! BYE BYE no customer service

Good bye troll

Feel the warranty should be 2 yrs on these handsets because they cost so much, particularly for issues brought about by FORCED software updates.

In Europe warranty is two years, but batteries are partially considered as "expendable" so warranty usually works for the first year only.

Battery Drain

I don't think its the OS or battery.

I had a 3gs for three years and updated it to OS 5 and it started dying between 2-10% After awhile it got worse. I tried a hard reset a few times, I tried draining to zero and recharging full many times. I went and got a new battery but it continued getting worse. Eventually it would die in the 90's%. Then kaput it never worked again. This all happened in about a 6 week span.

Now I've had a 5/OS6 for three months and its starting to do the same thing at about 15-20%.

Thank goodness its still waranteed but it still sucks. I'll see how it goes for a bit and then try to get it replaced.

If it happened on both my iphones I have a feeling its a pretty big issue.

Oh

...and when I got my battery the guy at the shop said don't use non apple rechargers. I've only been using an apple charger with my 5 but it is attached to an extension cord. I have a feeling extension cords or apple chargers are bad.

This has been happening to me a ton recently, on iOS 7.0.4.

Did a restore from DFU mode to my backup, and it is better, but still will shut down at 15-23%. Taking rapid photos or long videos while at a low battery percent(~20%) will cause it to shut down, as will rapid app-switching.

I have done the battery calibration process multiple times, which seemed to help it last longer, but not by much.

I noticed whenever I am using the phone (4S) when it hits around 20% it starts to shutdown. However if I just leave it on the home screen, to drain it past the 20% mark, or overnight to discharge, it seems to be able to drain down to about 5%.

I just got a shutdown at 33% battery after making 4-5 photos with flash

after 3-4 minutes worked to turn it on and the battery was at 31% and I have used it after that about 4h (no photos)

wtf apple??
