Does anyone else get the flickering that happens in the Playlist view? :(

Yes I got that as well. I think it is related to iTunes Match because the music app seems to update the album covers even if they are already updated. I have the same flickering in albums view as long as my album cover are not downloaded yet.

It's really annoying, but I don't think anything can be done about it right now.

I still haven't update to iOS 7 because of the music app and have sent user feedback to apple. However I know of two music player apps that display music like in iOS6 with the artist albums collapsed in grid view. Soundhound and Denon Audio. I also contacted the developer of Muze app and they will consider updating their app to collapse the artist > album view.

When adding music to a playlist you used to be able to select music from another playlist, but this appears to have been removed. There's now no easy way to add just-purchased music. You need to search for it in the song list or find the album/artist/composer.

If you mean a stutter, I get that.

I tend to make playlists and edit them as I listen. I like the swipe to remove (if it was available in ios6 I never noticed it), but when I remove a song the whole screen stutters down, then up. I can't do anything else until it finishes. Very annoying.

I also don't like that the screen doesn't automatically shift to show the currently playing track. In ios6 the current track always adjusted to show on-screen, now I have to go looking for it.

Music app seems to be behaving much worse for me since 7.0.2 update. Frequent crashing, song randomly changes to something up-playlist that already played, playlist stops and resets to beginning. Closing app and restarting phone did nothing to fix the issue.

Mine has started getting buggy, while it was just poor design before. Now it skips when I unlock the phone while it's playing, and can take up to 10 seconds to change to the next track (whole phone freezes).

The music app is dire, what a mess it has become. It also looks terribly sterile with the white background. If you have a lot of albums by the same Artist the music app is useless, the albums seem to appear in a random non alphabetical order, and scrolling through more than 5o albums is crap.
It also is very slow at responding to input.

Ummm...you can rate the songs....

On the "now playing" screen...tap on the drop down menu....
I am on the fence about upgrading from iOS6, with a HUGE music library rating songs and the iPod app is big to me. Can you take a screenshot of how the rating songs section looks, is it now a hassle to get to?

TIA!

Sheesh what a shame, this is sad to hear.

I don't have a screenshot, but if you google iOS 7 music app and look at it (it's the one with all the white around the album art... cause that makes sense..)

You single tap the art, and the scrubbing bar (the one that lets you seek through the track) turns into your star rating system.

I can't seem to unrate songs with it though, and have accidentally rated a few trying to seek through a track. Good times.

it should be added that this does NOT work if the song has lyrics. Then you have to go into the album view (top right corner of the now playing screen) and then tap "rating" to bring the ratings up.

I like when you are listening to a song and you are looking at all of the songs on that album you see three little bars on the left that go up in down with the music. Just a nice little subtle touch imo.

I had the same problems since applying the OTA. Today, I tried reformating my iPod to stock - and the problems are gone. Maybe they will return over time, but maybe it was just the OTA that messed up my music library. Performance is fine for the moment.

Mine is a fresh install, and I did the reset all settings etc.

It really only does it when I listen to music for more than half an hour, or when I skip lots of songs.

Unfortunately, I skip many songs at the gym for a few hours cause the artist browsing is so awful, I just shuffle all and hit next til I hear something I feel like listening to.

Why aren't I getting the radio icon?......

Bring back the double click home button for lock screen music controls, much more convenient i reckon

Here you go...this is the "now playing" screen...just hit the menu graphic in the upper right hand corner.

Here's what you see when you hit that...all the songs are displayed. Just hit "rating" to see the rating for the one you are playing.

Yep.

If you mean a stutter, I get that.

I like to make playlists as well that I can add to and delete whole albums from. In iOS6 I could delete the album from the library, thereby deleting all the tracks from the playlist. In iOS7, i can't delete albums anymore and have to resort to deleting tracks one by one from the playlist. Cumbersome and as you noted, it causes problems. Despite having deleted tracks, sometimes it decides to start over from the beginning of the "ghost" playlist, playing songs that don't even show up anymore in the playlist. Another thing missing is the "add all songs" option when creating a playlist, meaning if I want a whole album added, I have to select each song. The best thing we can do is to let apple know we want the old music app functions back via their feedback page. Oddly, they only have a feedback page for the iphone, not for the software it runs, but I think if enough people complain, they will listen. I can get used to the new look, but a poorly functioning music app is just a blight on their reputation.

The albums are ordered by the YEAR tab on itunes/album info. It's actually kind of neat if you have multiple albums and the proper years tagged as you can let the artist's discography play chronologically.

I hate that there's no quick way to play just one album though; in order to do so you must start a song from an album and then click through to the "list" view of the songs on that album and restart the song; failure to do this will let the music continue to the next album in line when the current album finishes. It's a minor detail but annoying nonetheless since they had it right back in ios6. Also I cannot figure out why they would remove the A-Z sidebar in artist view but leave it for albums; very disappointed in the music app.

That's fine, but imagine if you don't have the year filled in in iTunes. Imagine having to go through 30-40 GB of music and looking up the release date and then filling it in. Otherwise, it just seems these albums are randomly thrown into the album/song view. Apple needs to develop an auto-fill for the release year in iTunes (and even this won't work for unofficial releases like live shows) or go back to the way it was. We need more organization, not less.

Thanks for confirming the flickering/stuttering in Playlist view, guys! I thought I was the only one. :(

What do you mean by flickering? Like the actually screen flickers like an old tv? or it just lags?

It's like the Playlist view is continuously trying to refresh itself, displaying "0 songs" to the actual number of songs, and going back to zero in a matter of seconds. Kinda like the flight status information screen at airports? :/

I'll quote some who are having the same issue:

Yes I got that as well. I think it is related to iTunes Match because the music app seems to update the album covers even if they are already updated. I have the same flickering in albums view as long as my album cover are not downloaded yet.

Yeah, I think sync-ing to iTunes Match might be the problem here.

When I updated my iPad Mini, it deleted all my tracks, except purchased ones, which showed the "cloud" icon next to them. Essentially, iOS 7 thought I was on iTunes Match, even if I wasn't [and the toggle is still on "off"].

If you mean a stutter, I get that.

And that's the trouble with the Playlist view; it's constantly trying to refresh itself.

Overall, that should be my main gripe. The app is somewhat buggy, but still useable, thankfully.

You are aware that these controls still exist but you do not have to double-click the home button anymore, they are always there?

This is more organization. Ordering albums alphabetically has nothing to do with the music. When you order them chronologically, you get the albums of a band in a natural order that corresponds with the band's development. I sometimes have a hard time remembering the specific title of an album but I know where it lies in a bands timeline and can find it easily if the albums are sorted chronologically. Alphabetical sorting would require me to look at all names until I recognize it.

I do however think that Apple should put a switch in the settings menu to let people decide what way of sorting they want. That way they can easily please both crowds.
Personally, I think that chronological sorting has been neglected in the digital audio player market for too long.
