I think the point is that the iP4 is more than capable of having most of those things. It's Apple's suckass way of forcing users to upgrade their device when there is no need for it.

If that really was the case then they would just not allow iOS 7 on the four at all. After all it had 3 versions of iOS so most folks won't complain

Actually it had 2 versions, ios 4 doesn't count cause it's the main OS that the phone came out

Beta 6 is a complete disaster on my son's iphone 4. Slow as hell, extremely faulty typing, battery life is awful. I can't see an OS THAT bad being ready in three weeks from what it is now.

I honestly have up on ios7 running on my 4. Hopefully by release its straightens out, but I always thought it was intentional to influence an upgrade.

I don't understand how they're going to fix all the problems in a few weeks.
This is shaping up to be iOS 4 on iPhone 3G all over again..

In all seriousness, iOS 7 on iPhone 4 is pretty bad. Everything lags, it takes forever to do anything, there's no parallax or transparency so it looks like garbage most of the time. Gestures glitch up because of all the lag. The battery life is awful (although, after I removed the sim card from my 4, it became a lot better for some reason, no longer searching for a signal?) If I had a choice between an iPhone 4 on iOS 7 and a Galaxy S2, I would probably pick the S2, (and then regret it when I can't use my iTunes content)

I was very excited to see how often and regular Apple was releasing betas, I thought there will be 8, maybe 9 before GM and everything is going to be super polished...guess not. iOS7 on iPhone 4 still needs some work and I too can't see how they are going to fix it if the rumoured release dates come out to be true.

The last proper beta was released a few weeks ago now (beta 5). That's over a month to fix issues. A lot of time.

You are testing beta software that is far from perfect. Wait until the GM to complain.

i dont know if it just me but
has someone experienced that NC/CC sometime stuck on the middle of screen while you swipe down?
its not as smooth as NC on iOS6

i've tried reset all setting and it works for a few days only and sometime it gets back stuck...

have been experienced since beta 3 until beta 6 on iPhone 4

No live/animated lockscreen
No 3D background on homescreen
No transparency
No weather effects
No nothing
Slow as hell, 3fps animations, scrolling etc

What did they do to iOS. :(

If I wanted this I'd get android. Getting back to beautiful iOS6.

I do not care for VISUAL EFFECTS. Is the performance going to be decent?

Let me answer your question, for I've been testing iOS 7 beta 6 the latest week in my old iPhone 4: Yes, the performance is pretty decent, and though the GM is near, this is still a beta, keep that in mind.

I'm surprised of my iPhone 4 being capable of running iOS 7, because the GPU of the A4 is very similar to the one in the 3GS, and has a display with four times number of pixels. Impressive.

Lets make it clear: obviously, moving through the entire system, multitasking carrousel animation, lists like the Settings one, are not smooth as silk. BUT, if you don't mind minor frame downs (already present on iOS 6), the system is absolutely usable. I was thinking of selling my iPhone 4 in order to buy the new iPhone 5C, but seeing the performance in my old iPhone 4, sincerely, I don't know what to do.

I repeat: Compared with an 4S or an iPhone 5, it is not as smooth, and it's slow opening apps too, (but this was that way on iOS 6 too, is iPhone's monocore A4 fault), but the beta 6 works -surprisingly- pretty decently.

The first days, the battery of my iPhone 4 on iOS 7 beta 6 was terrible. I mean, terribly bad. Maybe half of a day. But that's because I was using it all day long, and the Wi-Fi emissor was pretty far from my position. Now things have changed to normal conditions, and I'd say the battery life is pretty much the same than on iOS 6.

Probably, I will end selling my iPhone 4 in order to upgrade to an iPhone 5C, but not due to a bad iOS 7 performance (It's not bad at all), but for the slowness when it comes to open apps, shoot camera, and the 4 inch screen look very atractive.

As for the animations: No, it doesn't have the weather app animations indeed (but who the **** changes their phone because of this? :p ), BUT it does have translucent dock, the notification center is somehow transparent (different from other devices), and the Control Center is grey, but I don't see a great problem on that.

If you (all you, dear macrumors comunity) need any other detail of iOS 7 on iPhone 4, I'll be pleased to help you.

Regards.

That was a nice explanation. I was just wondering; my mum uses an iPhone 4 and only complaints when Facebook, Mail or Twitter slows down but never about the whole OS being slow, do you think iOS 7 will be decent for her?

If she's fine with iOS 6, she'll be fine with iOS 7. Performance wise, they're pretty much the same.

Thanks man.

To your question, I'll refer to what Nalk7 said. Yes, I think it will be OK as far as iOS 7 respects. But I must say I don't use Facebook or Twitter on my iPhone, so I don't know how good or bad the performance of this apps are.

Thank you!! I've been waiting for someone to give just this answer. I'm also not a heavy user, and I don't care too much for the fancy UI candy that iPhone4 will not support. It's very nice to know that iPhone4 will run iOS7 quite fine, like it does iOS6.

And considering that probably with a proper GM, or even a 7.0.1, things will get better compared to any beta, I'll be happy to hit the 'update' button after September 10th :)

It had 3 - iOS 5, 6, and now 7.

It had 2 cause you can't use the past for ios 7 cause it's not even released and apple has to release ios 8 in order to say that the iphone 4 had 3 versions: ios 5,6 and 7.

Eh? iPhone 4 has had iOS 4, 5, 6 and soon to have 7. I'd say that's 3, soon to be 4. Or you could say it's had 2 upgrades, soon to have had 3. But I don't understand why iOS 8 has to come out for you to say any of this... Anyway, this is a bit pointless, sorry.

iOS 7 (as it is now) is comparable to iOS 4 on the iPhone 3G. Maybe a bit faster, but not much. I've seen both scenarios, so I know what I'm talking about. For those who don't know how iOS 4 performed on the iPhone 3G: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pdk2cJpSXLg

That is a parody, or at least that is what say the title.

I didn't experienced iOS 4 on iPhone 3G, but I can assure that iOS 7 in iPhone 4 is far from that parody. It is perfectly usable. I've been using beta 6 for more than a week now, browsing the web, listening to music, trying the all new iTunes radio service, playing games, making phone calls... and all without issues at all.

Every once in a wile you enter Settings panel and it crashes and you have to re-enter (a few seconds), but we are talking of two or three crashes in a week. I don't think that makes it unusable.

As I said I've seen both iOS 4 on the iPhone 3G as well as iOS 7 on the iPhone 4 and I have to say that the speed is comparable. The iPhone 4 on iOS 7 is still a bit faster than my iPhone 3G on iOS 4, but the 3G is also a bit faster than that parody video, since it actually runs 4.2.1, while the iPhone in the video runs the initial 4.0 release. Plus, the video is just to get an idea how the iPhone 3G performed on iOS 4, not to show everyone that the iPhone 4 will perform exactly as slow. But maybe I'm just saying that because I'm used to the speed of the iPhone 4S...
