.

NO. IT. DOESN'T.

This "it's a beta" cry is so unbelievably counterproductive it's not even funny any more. It is not helpful. It is not a "friendly reminder". It is a condescending meaningless statement to people who are already FULLY aware it is a bloody beta and the repercussions of that.

While it's been said before it bears repeating.

This is BETA software, for developers / not designed for day to day use.

That doesn't mean you cannot use it, but don't expect it to act like it's finished.

Yes we get that, we really do, but while our expectations maybe lower for a beta version, that doesn't mean people aren't going to share their experiences!

Besides, people often miss the point - iOS Betas are NOT released to developers for Beta testing. They're released to developers to allow them to test/update their own apps on them. So it needs to be at least be useable for as close to day to day use as possible, even if not finished. How can a developer live test an app on a device that overheats to the point of shutting down?

But that said, I don't think anyone's complaining about this, they're just commenting - we all know it's a first beta and what that entails.

I highly suspect your phone is heating up because iOS 7 brings true multitasking which means apps still run in the background. Because many people I know don't have the habit of closing their apps, they're in for a huge shock when they see their battery life drastically reduced .

When software is in its beta stages, it is close to being finished, with some final tweaks needed here and there. What you are referring to is software in its alpha stages. If this was an alpha release, then that's when I would deem it unfinished and unsuitable for day to day use

Probably because you guys are just using your phone more. Checking out the new OS

Not true. I would pick my phone up from an idle state and it would be warm. This is not a placebo effect.

Since, I've reinstalled iOS7 via "update" and I haven't experienced as much heat, lag, or battery drain.

yeah im getting this, phone getting warm (not to mention crappy battery life) but hey its a beta! ;)

Your clairvoyance is inoperative...

It's a known problem with a particular process burning up a CPU core.

Kill any of the "store" apps from multitasking UI.

My iPhone 4s overheated.

I noticed it a tad warmer/hot. Also not using a bumper case so it's drastically different. The battery life on mine has dropped to roughly twice as fast as usual. I can probably get 1-1 1/2 hours if browsing via 4G(non LTE) before it drops below 20%.

Only app that doesn't work is eBay but that's been mentioned already. Few app crashes here and there but that's no different.

Some other suggestions:

- Change language from your current language, restart, change language back.
- Backup to iCloud, reinstall iOS7, restore from iCloud. Seems restoring from a backup on your pc/mac can cause some issues.

My iPhone 5 turned really hot and drained its battery the first time I upgraded from iOS6 to 7 beta. Tried again and this time setting it up as a new, clean iPhone. Back to normal. Maybe even better battery-life.

I've noticed high temperature on my 4 too, but can't complain about battery life.

The moveable set of wallpapers caused my iPhone to overheat extensively. Battery drain too.

Going back to traditional backgrounds cured the problem for me.

Very doubtful.

true multitasking

I don't think this is really the issue. The "true multitasking" features are delivered to 3rd party devs via API. No dev has had a chance yet to implement these into their apps - if you check in Settings > General > Background App refresh, you'll see what apps are able to take advantage of the new multitasking features: Weather, Stocks and Newsstand subscriptions (NYTimes for me).

I've disabled Background App Refresh completely and still don't see enhancement in regards to overheating/battery drain.

There really isn't a "One-Fix to rule them all" yet, because iOS 7 hasn't been optimized for battery life this early in a beta. It'll get better as we move closer to fall, but they don't usually focus on these details until later in the beta process when they've finished building the whole system and making all the major changes.

Facebook seems to be the culprit for me, that and/or maps. If I keep facebook killed when I'm not using it, my phone doesn't ever go into the super-hot battery drain mode.

Kill Facebook and Facebook Messenger App once you're done.
Turn off Frequent Locations
If you have an Exchange Mail accounts.
Remove and then add them again.

To be honest, Facebook has been killing my iPhone 5's battery already under 6.1.2 since its last update and I'm pretty sure it's about their updated VoIP service ringing home repeatedly.
