lag is still there, the test of bringing spotlight while in portrait, then rotating to landscape still shows a significant lag

Well thanks for this. I've been trying to understand what people were talking about in terms of the lag. After trying that Spotlight test mine lagged also. There are other small bugs too but I guess we'll have to wait. Thankfully Apple is pretty fast at fixing issues.

not sure if this is a joke...

Why would it be a joke? Resource intensive blur algorithms can slow down a system pushing tons of pixels. Eliminating unnecessary blur speeds up animations when background blur is visible. Everyone here knows there is a trade off between performance vs useless features (such as background blur). Seems logical to me.

One should not have to fiddle with settings to see what works and what does'nt

That is opposite of Apple's mantra "It just works"

Thanks for that test about spotlight and changing orientation.

I see the lag.

I was wondering though is it mainly based on changing orientation? I ask because I haven't noticed any lag in my normal usage which doesn't involve changing orientation.

contrary to what you say, I don't think most people here would accept that their brand new expensive device is not capable of that simple animation without a lag, and that the solution would be to disable some of the core features of the OS.

btw, the lag is not caused by the blur algorithm (that algorithm is just a trick that blurs the entire image, and not a true live blur of the view), but the scaling that is done specifically on the 6+

Not for me. Since upgrading to 8.1 b2 that lag is finally gone.

believe me, it's there for everybody. if you don't notice it, it's most likely because it doesn't happen more than once if repeated multiple times, as the animation is cached; but once the memory is cleared after some time, it happens again. so you won't see it every time you try.

also, some people are just not sensitive to these things, I had some people showing me that their phone wasn't lagging while it was clearly lagging to me.

I remember the times of CRT monitors, some people were spending their entire days in front of displays that were set at 60Hz; I could not spend more than a few seconds in front of that without my brain imploding.

I don't give a rip if spotlight lags for a half second if I rotate the screen. I just hope they fix all the crashing going on. Really plays hell with battery life.

LMAO!!!! I'm super sensitive to this kinda stuff, too. Like when people swore the LG G3 didn't lag when it clearly did. I really don't see what people are complaining about on the Six Plus. I even did a side by side with a coworker who has a Six and transitions/apps were equally fast on both devices.

The LG G3 totally lagged! Drove me nuts.

lol. I rotate on purpose pretty much never with the exception of viewing video or a photo. I also never use spotlight. I don't care if useless animations stutter for half a second either. I just want the basics to work reliably. I feel like iOS 8 on my 6 plus does that just fine. This forum is full of hyper sensitive people that complain about every little thing. They need to get over it. :)

Dam, I do that like 20 times a day.

Hope this gets fixed.

In case you really don't get it: this is just a quick easy way to replicate the general lag issue, so people can understand what we're talking about.

But the lag does happen in many more places than just there (of course)

Are you guys just pretending, or you just can't understand simple things. The problem is not the lag during the rotation of spotlight; the spotlight lag is just an easily replicable illustration of the problem !

And people working at Apple used to be as obsessed about these things as some of us; that's what made Apple different. Now that the company and its users have changed, obsessing about perfection is not part of the company DNA anymore, that's a shame.
A lot of users nowadays have your attitude, and "don't care", and just ruining it for the rest of us.
As a result, iOS has become bloated, OSX has become bloated. When Snow Leopard came out, it was all about perfecting things, making things faster and more stable, it was great. But you guys always want more and more new features, and we end up with buggy software that's not quite as enjoyable to use.

I actually agree with you. Unfortunately new features are easier to sell than saying a new iOS version sucks less than the version before it.

Also, Apple has to respond to investors. Based off everything I read, it seems like the 6 plus should have had the custom resolution screen so it didn't have to scale and the 6 and 6 Plus were supposed to have sapphire screens. If they had just waited on releasing the new phone, they could have made it in. But, everyone wants a new iPhone every year so they had to rush something to market. And here we are. :)

If I have movie box installed already and update to 8.1 will the app still b there and ppl who don't have it on 8.1 can't download. Or will it disappear when I update to 8.1?

I'm sure that's what you desperately hope for, but I highly doubt it will get worse. You should throw a party if it lags again :)

lol..maybe i will. honestly..i don't know what will GM be like...was it same with iOS 7 and beta version?

'Is the lag only visible when rotting the keyboard in spotlight mode?

Are you serious?

Lately, iOS GMs have been about as good as the last beta, with maybe a bug fix or two thrown in. The GM for 8 actually worked better than the last beta did on my iPhone 5- beta 5 was laggy to the extreme while the GM was pretty solid.

The 7.1 betas were all pretty solid in my experience.
