No, I never restored my backup. I started from scratch.

I forgot to mention though, I was never on iOS 8.1, but I was having battery problems on iOS 8.0.2 originally.

Thats because its not the iOS that causes this. There are ALWAYS same stories for every iOS and point release since iOS 1. Seldom was it actually iOS causing it. So with that said try closing all apps then settings>general>reset>reset network settings. Once it reboots you will have to set up an wifi connections again. If that doesnt help settings>general>reset>reset all settings. That will require you to go back through all your settings to get back like u want but your data will remain intact. Also have to set wallpaper and wifi connections but again your apps and data will stay intact.

ok so im screwed.
i downgraded to 8.0.2 but it wont let me restore the backup as it says software is too old (backup has been done on 8.1).
guess i deserve it.

You are not screwed. See last message its not iOS. Also if you have itunes backup there is a way to restore that. Just update to 8.1 via iTunes and restore your backup then do the reset I mentioned.

My iPhone 5 battery is stuffed no matter what version of iOS I run. I charge it once overnight, and at least twice during the day.

I'm currently still on 100% after 17 minutes usage since fully charging and updating to 8.1.

Buy and fit a replacement battery. Even a clumsy old git like me managed to do it on my daughter's iPhone5.

In most cases the problems when switching to a new iOS version are (as I had with my switch from iOS6 > iOS7):

- rogue app process (app not updated yet to iOS8/8.1) check Settings > General > Usage > Battery usage in percentage to determine which app is using much more battery although you haven't used it at all or much.

- settings in e-mail receiving is changed
- background app refresh (turn it off if you do not need it)
- location services (look carefully which apps you want to use this feature)
- notifications (look carefully which apps you want to use this feature)
- Facebook app

See also this great article about this.

It's completely opposite in my case - battery life is way better on my iP5S running iOS 8.1.

thank you for your answer. i did all the resets and nothing changed.

i think I'm going back to iOS 8.0.2 and manually import things back. gonna be hard work.

I have to admit I'm not sure what good battery life is on iPhone 5. I let my battery deplete and it's funny as it went down to 1% and it was there for a hour plus.

It ended up at 8 hours of usage and 2 days 5 hours standby. 37% was from mail background.

Is this good?
iPhone 5 8.1
Update install via iTunes 7.1.2 to 8.1 directly. I skipped 8.0.x

its perfect
i went from 100% to 0% with 2 hours usage 9 standby with 8.1

Let it sit. I have a iPhone 5 running 8.1 and the battery is fine. It takes a few days.

hi, so you had the same issue and it fixed itself? I'm just afraid apple will stop signing 8.0.2 and i will be screwed with a phone i can't use to work full day.

Revert. Problem solved.

What does the battery usage list look like?

hi, as u can read from previous message then backup i have can't be used on 8.0.2 anymore which sucks!

my battery usage stats are quite normal, like 15% home and screen, 9 -10 FB or what sap etc

I have a 4s and I'm on 8.02 and I get 3 hours out of my battery before I have to charge it. A lot of the usage has the tag low signal so I'm thinking it's due to me being on a 3G phone when there's hardly any 3G towers left so it's constantly searching for a better signal.

That's crazy. I hope you figure it out.

same here brotha. It's a big problem. if you can, i recommend to run the 8.1 beta 1 if you don't use apple pay. That beta is fine but b2 is where the leak began and it was carried over into the official because apple is incredibly effing sloppy.

yeah but doesnt beta 1 expire at some point?

My wife got 5 hours usage and 24 hours standby. With around 35% battery left. iPhone 5s. I have the usual optimizations going like limited background app refresh an other stuff.

Dec 4th. :( But I'm hoping that by then they'll push out an update by then because I have a feeling it's apple pay related and we all see what disaster apple pay's been so far.
