Finally working

After checking all iMessage settings, turning on and off iMessage, email addresses and allowing phone numbers, all to no avail; I finally got the code to appear on my iPad after restarting both my iPhone 6 and my iPad and selecting forwarding.

I got Nuthin'

working with SMS. I have an iPhone 4s with 8.1 OS, and i have tried all of the suggestions on this thread. I've turned off and on iMessage on my phone and my devices and tried to turn on Text Forwarding except the selection doesn't appear on my phone and Ive added my iCloud email and my phone number and I've turned my devices back off and back on and I still can't get a pass code to appear on my phone. I got a message when I first downloaded Yosemite asking if I wanted to share SMS texts as well as iMessages and I answered yes, but when it didn't work and none of the methods i found online or on various websites worked either I guess am now conceding defeat. I may try again after my iPhone 6 arrives, but that is several weeks away.

This is the most frustrating thing I have had happen with an Apple device, as far as ease of use or installation is concerned.

I had the same problem described in the article, and all I had to do was sign out of iMessages app on my iPhone and sign back in. After signing in, I still had a checkbox next to my phone number and I was able to receive the verification number on my Mac.

Same here. Switching iMessage off and back on wasn't enough, but signing out and back in solved the problem (Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > Apple ID > Sign Out).

Is this suppose to work between an iPhone 4S and a late 2011 MBP?

edit: Got this working after restarting the mac and the iPhone.

Now iMessage won't reactivate

I followed the instructions, including switching iMessage on and off. But now iMessage won't activate again on my MacBookPro.

I get a warning window "iMessage Activation. Could not sign in. Please check your network connection and try again." Well, my network connection is OK. I have Internet on all my devices, incl. on my iPhone 5. Facetime works also (it is activated and shows my email address. iMessage is no longer activated and I can't, no matter how often I try.

Receiving and making cellular calls via my MacBookPro also work.

So my iMessage (on my MacBookPro and iPhone) are now regular SMS messages (blue clouds instead of green). It worked before, now it doesn't.

And, of course, what started it all: receiving and sending SMS on my MacBookPro, don't work.

Now what?

One Mac Showing several Macs.

I have one Mac, one iPad. Showing several Macs because I restored my Mac those many times. Cannot activate others because there are no Macs exists to receive the code.

I have a bunch of email addresses active in iMessages on iPhone, yet, no code.

*sigh*

Look under "Send and Receive", you will probably have an apple email address (which you are not using) in the list before your primary apple account email address. Delete these redundant addresses and try again.

doesnt work for me also,
i turned on my email address (my imessage registered under my hotmail add) on both my iphone 6 plus and iphone 5, i wanna turn on iphone 5 in my iphone 6 plus, but the code never appear on my iphone 5, i can turned on iphone 6 plus on iphone 5 without any problem, anyway, my imac, macbook pro, two iphones and ipad, all are fine and can just turn on and the code will appear on the respective device, just this iphone 5 cannot receive passcode for my iphone 6 plus, any idea? :(

I found my own solution

I can't recall seeing anyone else using this method, so I thought I'd share it. In the OSX Messages app, I logged out of my apple id and logged back in. This solved the issue for me, after trying all methods mentioned in this thread.

Hope this works for more people!

This article was incorrect. All you need is on the iPad or OS X, having your cell number checked under the deliverable addresses option.
