It seems like they've fixed this in the public release of 8.2 so coming to beta 3 I guess

I am on 8.3 beta 2 and I haven't seen this? I scrolled down my artist list to L, went to home screen and back to music app and it was still at L. Even went to other tabs and back to artist and still at L.

make sure to pause your music. let the music app be for a while and don't use it. let's say you took a nap and boom it jumps back up to "A". it remembers the position for a split second but then it decides to jump back up. Doesn't happen in album view.

If you don't know why this happens, you needn't be using an iOS beta.

huh? this has been an known issue ever since iOS 8 has been released and has nothing to do with the beta i just cant believe it still hasnt been fixed

Didn't someone mentions earlier that it was fixed in 8.2?

Nope, it's been happening since at least iOS 7, and I suspect it's been happening (perhaps less visibly) since iOS 4.

Load a bunch of apps and force Music into a reload state. It will start out where you left off, and after a brief pause during which it is unresponsive, it will jump out of the album and back to the top of the Artists list. It still does this in 8.2; I haven't tried the 8.3 beta. And would it kill them to add per-album Play buttons next to the per-album Shuffle buttons? That's easy enough, right? (I'm past even seriously complaining about the dismal infinite scrolling interface inflicted on the world by iOS 7.)

I couldn't get it to happen. I opened 10-15 apps and then went back to Music and it was still in the same spot. I am on 8.3 beta 3.

Also to play an album, I just tap on the first track and it plays the album and stops at the end.

Then they've changed both behaviors that exist in 7.0 through 8.2. I have an iPod Touch 5th generation, but I would think it behaves the same as the iPhones. No idea about the iPad. (ETA: The reload behavior may be new to iOS 8. At least I noticed it right away in 8 and don't recall it in 7. However, the "implicit playlist" issue was definitely introduced in 7 with the redesign of the Music app.)

To be clear, in Artists view, when I press the first track of an album with 10 songs on it, I will see something like "1 of 40" or "18 out of 40" at the top of the Now Playing screen, depending on which album out of several I picked the first song from, creating a sort of "implicit playlist" of all the songs on that artist's albums. The well-known way to fix this is to click on the menu button in the upper right, press the first song, and then press "Done". When you're returned to "Now Playing", you'll see "1 of 10" at the top, which is what you wanted and expected in the first place.
