Wow I was having the same issue on my Air 1, I just used my iPhone 6 (runs great on it) as hotspot and the music app actually works on the iPad ! So that's really weird, and I've tried different wifi connections here in Mexico, anyway Apple needs to release an iPad patch in immediately... Thanks

What about those having the issue on the iPhone 6?

What about those having the issue on the iPhone 6?

Interestingly enough, I was having the same problem on my iPhone 6 Plus at first. I would open Apple Music, search for an artist, select them from the search results screen and once their artist page was loaded, it would lag while scrolling through their song & album listings. Pressing on a song or album would either not register at all or would take anywhere from a few seconds to a minute. This process would repeat at the app would eventually freeze up & then quit. This is exactly the issues I'm still having on my iPad but for whatever reason, they've just disappeared on my iPhone and now it runs smooth. While I'm good at troubleshooting, this is out of my area of expertise and my best guess is that there is something wrong on Apple's end affecting how data is transmitted to particular devices, some sort of OS issue or I have bad hardware. Genius Bar appointment scheduled for Thursday and I'm fully expecting to walk out with a new iPad because I don't imagine they'll know any better what to do or how to remedy this.

Interesting. So do you think it will clear up over time?

Good question. I'm really not sure and it's pretty tough to say.
The one thing that may lend credence to it being something on Apple's end is that when I search for an artist on my iPad (in Apple Music), choose them from the search results and their artist page is loaded, I noticed that albums are first listed in list format (as they show up on the iPhone) - after the data wheel in the status bar spins for a few seconds, the albums eventually reformat to being an album cover view similar to what you see in iTunes (row of 3-4 albums going across from left to right, another row below, so on & so forth as required depending upon the size of said artist's catalogue). Now this may mean nothing at all or it may be that something wrong with iPad OS & the template it's set to display albums in on that page or again, something to do with how that data is transmitted from Apple's servers. It is always at this point for me when things begin to lag, choke up & eventually quit. Normally, I wouldn't have any sort of confidence that it would just go away as this is generally not how bugs work...but the fact that it was present on my iPhone & then disappeared has me very curious/hopeful. I'm very much looking forward to getting to the Apple Store on Thursday for my appointment so I can play with their iPad Air 2's and see if I can reproduce the problem as well as to see how my iPad responds when being used on their in-house network.

Thanks for the help Garreth!

Got this from Apple re: the screen delay bug on the Air 2:

We didn’t make any specific changes to the lock screen in 8.4 at all, but there could be a lock screen plugin (media player controls?) that changed a lot. Can we get stackshots during the delay?

Unfortunately, I'm back on 8.3 and can't get stackshots. Sent them the video from the beginning of this thread though and explained in more detail. Hopefully they can fix it.

It isn't just the lock screen though. The lag happens when ever you switch out of or into Music.app.

I'm having this problem too on my iPhone 6. iOS 8.4 is terrible. I phoned Apple care tonight and was put through to someone in the US. I explained I had the following:
My apps won't update anymore and when they try they freeze and leaves me with apps waiting all over my home screen.
My phone drops calls all the time.
It's laggy as hell
The music player is total ****.
She sent an email to my phone for me to open a diagnostics link so she could look at the reports logged on my phone. Apparently a lot of things were Red flagged which means errors and I had 25 failed calls logged. I told her they need to sort 8.4 out quickly as I know I won't be the only one complaining. She has arranged for me to pick up a new iPhone 6 at the Apple Store tomorrow. I'm going to check it's still running 8.3 and has the original Music player as this one is a disaster.

If this is an issue related specifically to iPad, (which I doubt) then fat chance of it getting fixed anytime soon. I've just about lost all faith in Apple giving two shites about iPads running smoothly.

I too am having lagging problems on the lock screen after "upgrading" to 8.4 on my Air 2 and also the auto-rotation feature no longer works reliably. THANKS APPLE.

I had all the issues described in this thread, and after running into an issue where no single app would respond anymore (but the home screen still worked right) I did a full backup/restore of iOS 8.4 using iTunes. I'm happy with the result: the orientation bug is still there but that one can be avoided by turning on the iPad using the sleep/wake button. And, apart from that, everything works fine and smooth - it's like getting a whole new iPad. So if you are as frustrated as I was, you might want to give this a try.

Interesting. I have no problems with my two iPhone 6es, but you obviously did. You would think this kind of inconsistency would not happen in an environment in which Apple controls the hardware, the OS and (to one degree or another) the apps.

I agree. The outcome of this is that Apple replaced my phone yesterday. This phone is on 8.3 which I'm happy with :)

Apple marked my bug report (re: the screen delay on iPad Air 2) as a duplicate. Must mean they're aware of it I guess.

That's good news.

I wonder if they'll release an update or wait until iOS 9?

Problems on my IPA2. Sometimes the screen won't rotate unless I press the sleep button, turn the iPad and press the sleep button again. Had terrible stuttering when playing soda crush, when the 'gems or whatever' falls down. Never had any problems pre 8.4. Not using music.

I just got back from the Apple Store - Genius was quite perplexed & very interested after seeing me demonstrate the issues for him. He got me out of there with a brand new iPad. I just got to my office, updated the OS to 8.4, tested out the music app and the same exact problem is there. A co-worker of mine stopped by shortly after, also has an iPad Air - I checked it out on theirs and again, the music app is a dumpster fire if you try to use it for more than 5 minutes. Definitely an OS issue. No question about it. Am chatting with Apple Care as we speak and getting the issue sent up the chain. Fingers crossed!
In the meantime, I'm strongly considering trying out the iOS 9 Public Beta to see if the music app is any more stable there.

Has anyone gotten the lag to go away yet? Is iOS 8.4 still lagging for you or does it go away over time (like some sort of indexing in the background or something)?

It doesn't seem like a whole lot of people are complaining about this

Many aren't experiencing it to begin with.

I got it to go away by going back to 8.3 on my iPad Air 2 the day this all started.

Then what makes me special? I formatted my phone completely and only loaded 1 playlist of music onto it and I was able to reproduce the problem. If it's that easy for me, how are others not experiencing it?

I disabled Apple Music and Connect. No problems other than the cluttered UI.

Anyone having issues with multi-tasking or app switching? When I double click the home button I have to wait almost 30 seconds before the phone becomes responsive again. Nothing works.

I'm unsure if anyone else has the same problem, but for me this lag in multi-tasking or app switching result in the faces update of the recent contacts and favorites. Disabling this feature at the contacts settings let the multi-tasking work again well, however, that should not be the solution. You can verify this behaviour if you reboot your phone as then the faces are all greyed out and they are loaded for the first time. If you lateron do a switching, you won't see the background update of the already loaded faces.

I've always had that option turned off. I don't see my contacts in the app switcher.
