We are iDevice family, I tested out iOS 8 first then after all the bugs put a halt on upgrading the others. Bluetooth pairing issues and the home button bug are show stoppers until they are fixed. iOS 8 was not ready for prime time (at least for legacy devices).

I'm getting a new ipad air 2(?) at the end of this year. Highly considering never updating it. I will surely miss some enhancements, but every Idevice I've owned seems to get less usable as the updates continue.

Missing ios7

Ios 8 has destroyed my iPad 2. This has always been my favorite device until now. It is now just awful to use. I JUST missed the downgrade window and now kicking myself. This hard lesson will definitely make me think twice before the next OS.

I have constant problems with iOS 8, mostly crashing apps and apps not rotating in landscape; both on iPad and iPhone 6.

Very frustrating.

That's not the OS's fault. The app developers need to fix and/or update their app to support iOS 8.

Okay, so I just returned an iPad so I can get one with 7.1.2. :p

iOS 8 is promising, but has flaws.

Agree - Agree - Agree!

This isn't surprising to me at all. I have friends who are still on iOS 7 because they don't have enough free space available to upgrade. When I tell them they can upgrade by connecting their phones to their computers, and thus, doing it through iTunes, they look at me like I'm crazy, or like it's 2008 or something.
A few friends I know have not updated for this very reason.

Most of my friends still haven't updated. Why? They have 16GB iPhones with not enough space! (I told them about iTunes update, but that's extra work.)
If Apple really wants to drive rapid OS adoption, they need to start w/ 32GB entry level iPhones.

An over-the-air update is a tough sell on 8GB or 16GB devices – lots of people wouldn't want to delete photos and apps to make way for a software update.

This is what I hear from quite a few people who haven't gone to 8. They've never connected their phones to iTunes and now can't download iOS 8 without deleting a bunch of stuff.

iOS 8 has had a horrible reputation for sucking. I'm not surprised people have held back on updating their devices.
Not to mention that a lot of people with 16GB iPhones most of the time have to delete content to be able to update, which they just rather not.

Apple should release numbers on how many people ever connect their phones to iTunes anymore(after a possible first time). I would like to see those stats.

I know many people who would LOVE to update to iOS 8, but won't due to the "memory hog" appetite when doing it over the air as so many have mentioned. Fortunately I figured that out fast on the release date as I too received the "You don't have the room, buddy!"

Stangnategate

Sorry, I had to. I can understand why the adoption has slowed, with all the bugs. 8.0.2 squashed MOST of the daily annoyances that 8.0 presented me with, with the exception on the keyboard shortcuts bug. And when Yosemite comes out? Meh. May wait a month for that (For some reason I always say that I'll wait to update my OS, but I end up downloading it ASAP)

The whole botched 8.0.1 probably didn't help their cause.

Then the whole you must have XGBs available to install this update is also another PITA. Therefore people just forget about it and use whats currently working.

Personally if i had the option i'd still be running 7.1.2.

I'm also very disappointed with iOS 8. I jumped in head first and updated 2 4S' and 2 iPad2's. They are all running iOS 8.0.2 and all have the same horrible Lags.

Before anybody suggests that I try setting up as new with iTunes, I've done that with downloaded IPSW and it makes absolutely no difference. There is clearly a problem with iOS 8. It's not bad hardware, it's bad software (Firmware).

I'm sure that Apple will get this fixed but they should be embarrassed for releasing iOS 8 before it was ready.

I'm surprised the news article didn't mention this
Instead they went with bugs , which 85% of phone users don't read tech sites to know about that

Thank god for an unlimited plan with iOS 8.02 on a 5S with the new feature of unusable wifi option they have yet to fix.

A good system is to run the last version available for the major version that shipped with your device (like 6.1.4 for an iPhone 5) for the optimal performance unless you absolutely need a feature from the newer release and don't mind the potential hit to battery/performance/stability. Nearly everything will continue to work exactly as it did when you bought it for many years.

iOS 8 has worked out fine for me. But I wish Apple made it easier for people who want to stay on iOS 7 or revert to it after updating.

not surprising. iOS8 is straight Janky... Can't wait for more updates. :apple: really should keep signing previous versions of iOS longer so if upgraders deem the update to not be up to par for them or they experience mass problems to downgrade... I know, pipe dream but man if there is one thing I learned from updating to iOS8 8on the 17th is..... WAIT!!!!

Well, I guess that puts me in the "other" 47%. Still on a 4s. Made the mistake going from iOS6 to 7. Won't make that mistake again. iOS8 on my dinosaur would be suicide. Still wish I could go back to 6

Being on a 4S and ipad 2 I have no desire to update to the bloatedness that is iOS8. People complain if they cannot update their computers even years after purchase and still function, but accept that their phones should become laggy awful monstrosities. Mavricks runs fine on my 2010 core2duo macbook.

If there was no lag in IOS 8, then the word "lag" wouldn't even be mentioned. Whether 100 people notice or not, its there.

I'm proudly running 7.1.2 and iOS 6.1.2. The X.1.2 versions are the BEST.

What we all need is an apology from Apple for releasing such garbage software.

I'm a software developer and closely follow Apple news, but even I didn't realize that you could install iOS 8 via iTunes to work around the space issue were it not for this thread. It's the reason I haven't updated my 16GB iPad yet, and the same reason a family member has not upgraded their 5S.
